I have the original toy, and I kind of want to get this one, chiefly because of better posing possibility with those pivoting feet, because it's Beast Wars, and because the perfect effect one costs a lot more (even though it's my favorite) and doesn't seem quite as sturdy. I wish Primal could just separate from his backpack, since that's really all that gets used in the robot combiner mode. Then you could have 2 robot mode figures.

So sad Star Saber lost this vote. I forget if this "evolution" gimmick was known about at the time, but the fact that Star Saber wasn't automatically in line bothers me. He's had this gimmick since day 1, probably could've made his brain master a new prime master or release one of the awol ones that way, and not have this subpar figure (imo). Never been a big fan of primal and it would've been awesome to have a star saber released stateside. But, probably just me.

The gimmick wasn't known at the time. If it had many people probably would have voted for Star Saber. Hopefully though, Star Saber'll get a new figure in the WFC line considering they could use the gimmicks from Titans Return and Power of the Primes and the fact that his alt mode already looks Cybertronian

Kaynowa I agree! Had Star Saber won the vote, his gimmick probably would've fit perfectly in this particular line of Leaders. Don't get me wrong, though, I do personally appreciate what they've done with Optimus Primal here. But still, you're right, Star Saber would've been more preferable in the case of the "evolution" gimmick.

My only conplainment about POTP Optimal Optimus is that he doesn't have his monster truck mode like in the original toy, I know that that mode only appeared in a few seconds on his debut episode from Beast Wars, but I was hoping for the figure to have at least the wheels to configure it in some kind of fan mode. but anyway, he looks so badass despite him missing the truck mode. That ending just killed me! lol

IIRC, DNA Design had the DK-08 upgrade kit that added in the wheels for Optimal Optimus' truck mode.

I think this figure is really cool looking. It genuinely seems like a perfectly valid option if someone wants an Optimal Optimus. Optimus Primal is a little disappointing with his pretty poor integration and lack of an alt-mode, but I do really really like his robot mode a lot, so overall this does seem pretty cool.

They always save the more complicated transformations for the Bayformers figures, which baffles me since those don't come out annually like their other lines do.

Lack of complexity isn't so much MY gripe - you can have an effective transformation that doesn't reinvent the wheel - it's the fact that those simple transformations aren't good and result in an okay robot mode and a half-assed alt mode, or vice versa. The new War for Cybertron Deluxes are somewhat simple, but both mod s look great. In other news, I was looking at this guy. As much as I love emgo's reviews, this is enough to convince me not to pick him up. Too expensive for what he is.

Starsaber was a obvious option based on the toy's technology but let's not forget it's an evolution line so they chose characters who became another totally distinct and upgraded form of themselves. Starsaber didn't exactly change drastically unlike Convoy, Rodimus, or Primal. He had a bigger body suit as a brainmaster type. This woud also explain Ginrai's transtector case.

Yeah if anything Star Saber was more like Ultra Magnus when it comes to combining with his armor. I'm not that worried about Star Saber not getting a toy that has the same gimmick because Hasbro isn't against using a certain gimmick for a character thy haven't updated yet. I mean we didn't get Predaking and Abominus in Combiner Wars but we did we in Power of the Primes . So I'm sure it'll still happen in the future.

What I like about this figure is that you can display the smaller Optimus Primal and the rest of the toy in Optimal Optimus beast mode (or robot mode if you remove the pin connecting Primal) Unlike the Optimus Prime & Rodimus figures, where if you display Orion Pax or Hot Rod, the rest of the toy......does nothing. Some sort of base mode would have made those figures so much better.

I am a transformer fan, yes ,But Beast Wars was actually and still has a very strong place in my heart. With Kingdom releasing new engineered Beast Wars Characters, which for me i had to try my best to get, since when i was kid those toys back then were very expensive , so i never had a beast wars toy. Power of Th Primes collection sadly, was not even released on my country in any store; my best friend knew about this Optimal Optimus, and he got me this to add for my Beast Wars collection. And i have to say that, around all the silliness done on this toy with the Evolution Gimmick, it is a fun toy , and i like some gymnastics on it too. And now with Megatron Transmetal (to release on Legacy ,a transformers prime predacon logo.... yeah, hasbro gonna use the mold for predaking prime.... i can almost see the future) it will look cool face to face with Optimal Optimus. :)

1. We could’ve had Garry Chalk finally talk with Peter Cullen in the Power Of The Primes Web Series, But I did enjoy Ron Perlman’s performance. 2. Beast Wars Optimus Primal is considered a separate character from Prime Wars Trilogy Optimus Primal. 3. If TakaraTomy gives Prime Wars Optimal Optimus the Masterpiece treatment, they should give Optimus Primal his gorilla transformation. Double the Monkey Rage! 4. If anyone wants to give emgo the SDCC 2018 Exclusive Throne Of The Primes Optimal Optimus figure to review, be sure to throw in all of the Prime Masters for the Halo Of Primus.
