This is from a television program that aired between 1995 and 2001 in France.
I do not own the content, only the subtitle file. Please enable closed-captioning in order to view the English subtitles by clicking on the 'cc' button on your KZbin player. You can also click on 'options' in the 'cc' menu to customize the subtitle font etc.
This is my first documentary subtitle. It is very likely not to be close to perfect, so if you see a mistake in it, please contact me with your suggestion.

P.S. I'm sorry if there are ads now! There have been 5 copyright claims on this video because of the soundtrack. It's nothing I can do anything about. I am not making any money from this, only those claimants are.

+Emil Sinclair do you have any idea if there are any other interviews with Cioran? There is a book called "conversations with Cioran" published so I wondered if any of those have been recorded and if so, if they're on the internet?

TheMoodKiller RF There's very little. This one, the Romanian documentary I've uploaded, and this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2mTqZmInZKrorM If you're talking about the book "Entretiens", it's an amazing, illuminating book. Highly recommended.

+Emil Sinclair I am Romanian, so I have watched the documentaries and interviews made by Liiceanu in the 1990s. Tutea, the one the documentary begins with, has also given plenty of interviews with the occasion of other TV cultural shows so I have completed my view on him. I have the whole Cioran collection already, and I have read everything except the "Entretiens" and the "Solitude et destin", I believe that's how that correspondence volume is called. I was asking out of curiosity, since as you might have noticed as well, there is a great difference between something he wrote and something he says. Words gain life when you see them with your own eyes, technology offers us the illusion of Cioran's contemporaneity, and I have also noticed that in most of his youtube interviews he almost has a "script" he recites with each occasion. In my opinion, the truth about him is still in the dark, yet that is also what he himself said that an author should do, to hide his essence, because otherwise we fall into automatism, like Paul Valery, and it is sadly inescapable. What I wanted to ask was if there are any other interviews on youtube which are kind of unconventional, maybe you would know better since I only watched the romanian documentaries and this. An interview with someone, following the 70s, I know he was also the director of a cultural magazine so maybe he gave interviews around that time? I wouldn't know, so I hope you'd enlighten me.

TheMoodKiller RF He didn't want to give interviews on camera and made very few exceptions. I'm not aware of any others that could exist. I don't think he was using a script or anything like that. From my perspective, he wanted to talk about what mattered to him the most, and there aren't many different ways to describe the same experience over and over. He's notorious for essentially writing the same book multiple times, so it makes sense for his interviews to repeat themselves as well.

+Emil Sinclair I believe it still has a different feel to it. When you read his Precis de decomposition and then proceed to watch one of these interviews it's kind of hard to believe it's the same person. Anyway, thanks for your attention. I was aware that he lived his life anonymously but he started accepting interviews after 1982-1986 so I was hoping that maybe there is more material.

"God is dead." - Nietzsche "Nietzsche is dead." - God "If there would be a proof of God's existence, Bach would be it." - Cioran "Here's Bach's schedule: he'll play organ on Mondays and Wednesdays on Cloud Six. The Brandenburgs on Tuesdays and Fridays on Cloud Nine and for the hardcore fans the weird Kunst der Fuge experimental era on Cloud Eleven. Free entry, we've got an awesome PA system and huge screens. What's Bach doing on Saturdays? You need to be dead for at least a couple of centuries before you even get a hint, let alone location and password." - God

I have no reason to make this private. I put a lot of work into making these subs. I highly doubt it will ever be removed, since I have dealt with the copyright issues from the music. I have kept a copy of the subs and the documentary on my hard drive, so I will simply re-upload it if that happens.

Etienne-Emile Antikatastaseis Awesome, that's great to hear. I appreciate all the work you put into it, it's a great documentary about a great man. It always pains me when I go over my old playlists to find so many holes in it and to know that there are some pieces of information I've never have access to again which really spurred my comment. By the way, I miss your contributions to the AN facebook groups. All the best to you.
