You obviously have gotten way better at climbing! What I'm really curious about is the numbers? Do they point to you actually being weaker? The ever-present question in all of our climbing, to get stronger or better. And always, a mix of the two is the right answer I find. I, too, have had a bit of skill reversal, where some of my harder ascents now are compression/powerful climbs and years ago, I would have been climbing several grades below as you said.

Seeing your approach to hard outdoors climbing in such concise, well-edited videos is really quite excellent, not least of all because for me, indoor stuff is really the only easily accessible option. May I ask if you have any experience with youth climbing training? I’m 15 currently, and it’s kind of a struggle to sift through all the training resources online to find those that are applicable to young people (as training systems like hangboarding/campusing have specific risks for kids). Keep up the great work!

Was this shot before you got your Drone CS HV? Or do you think those shoes aren't suited for outdoors?
@EmilAbrahamsson2 жыл бұрын
I had just gotten them, and not worn them in yet. I'm psyched to put them more to the test outdoors for sure, I think for some styles they could be insane actually, like small-edges in a roof, that kind of stuff

Do any other climbers ever join you on accident on high graded projects or is that only intermediate climbs
@EmilAbrahamsson2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, funny question actually. It's happened quite a few times that people join who might not have climbed close to the grade before, but at those times it's been people who know me and are just psyched to have a session :P

So... would you say that skill development (per hour invested) carries more value than the common physical fitness tasks climbers often focus on?
@EmilAbrahamsson2 жыл бұрын
For sure, because for every little incremental skill improvement you make you'll need less physical fitness. However, it's much easier to just train and not think, so becoming better isn't always an option, for some it comes very easy for others not so much. I'm probably somewhere in between, i'm not very naturally skilled but also I can learn with enough practice, if that makes sense.
@RealWorldClimbing2 жыл бұрын
Also, love the hands with shading where connected to the rock

Great video. Hey Emil, are you still trying the big island? Any other 8C projects?
@EmilAbrahamsson2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Trying is a bit of a stretch, but it's always in the back of my mind. I want to go back to france this winter, maybe early spring, to focus 100% on that one. I haven't been in great shape during the time I've climbed outdoors aside from the end of this summer, so there hasn't really been a good time for it. I'm heading to ticino in December to try if a new training routine i've been running is giving me valuable gains, and then I'll know my form better. I plan to try a lot of 8B+-8Cs there :-) I'd wanna do La Rustica and try Dreamtime, and get revenge on some of the ones I tried earlier this year
