Yep! Some 8th graders are just mean. I know it's their emotions and underdeveloped frontal lobe and all but some just come in and are purposefully hurtful. It's hard but some do twist the knife and it's awful. I try to hold on to all the positives and support I get from my team. The first year is simply the hardest. I feel inadequate sometimes but they wouldn't of hired me if I was, but some parts of the day I feel more hopeful and other parts of the day I feel hopeless. lol you didn't ask for a response like this but it's nice to be able to vent on the Internet.

Marissa I'm 16, finished high school (secondary school here) and it might take a while for some kids but eventually they'll realise how important you were to them. Especially at the end of the school year, even the most annoying kids rock up with gifts. I get that teaching is hard, my maths teacher when I was 13/14 admitted that she cried on the first day after teaching us because we were so horrible. But she left the school happy. 😇
