Yeah, that part hit me too. I'm a man and I had the role reversal here and I felt exactly like Emily on this one. I'm not sure if my female partner has any idea what I went through either. So I think it's not a male thing necessarily, it's more a role thing. There are lots of stereotypical things that do run kind of true. But woman are 100 percent guilty of doing the same things when the roles are reversed. This really triggers me. Because I've done both. I worked and provided and felt all the despair that goes with needing to work and wanting to be with your family and then I chose to be with my family but got absolutely none of the support from my partner that I expected. I felt like I was being resented or that I didn't deserve to be in that position. I'm still very upset by the whole thing. Roles have reversed again but I'm just very disappointed in my partners effort in all this. Now I do all the work which I hate and all the house work and I don't even see my partner anymore. I almost feel like I'd do better on my own at this stage. I do honestly feel like my partner has inherited some patriarchal hangups. All of the expectations of roles and stereotypes and none of the support and recognition when these roles get reversed. I think the Most important thing is to interpret your relationship with this whole thing. Most men are trying their best.

Every single other comment under this video has been from a women & I think one teenage guy. What she explained at 31:26 is the absolute truth. The thing is, women are defined based on men and it is what presents an identity crisis for many women, especially in the reproductive age. You know, we are asked so often when will you marry, your name, your child's name, and so on to the point where women become invisible. Ok a quick experience I had a couple of days ago. Husband and kids were in the car, and I had a huge cart of groceries. I took off my mask, loaded everything into the back of our SUV, took out a water and put it on top of the car, talking to my toddler and gave her her first cupcake, then cart was empty. It was so hot! Then out of nowhere this white haired, older, like in his 60's, man walked up to me asking if he could take my cart. He mumbled something about it but he was putting into the cart caddy area, whatever that's called. But it literally made me feel so good. It was so sweet to me. He noticed me. He came to make it easier for me. Chivalry. 💜

Honestly….I have seen ALL of your podcasts and have even shared it amongst my male circles who are embracing growth. I was begging internally that you would interview Emily, and holy s&$! this episode was THE MOST uncomfortable, yet so deeply felt and powerful to have seen the grace of all you four enter extremely deep issues that women have kept quiet for generations. The part that broke me open in tears was in minute 58 onwards when Emily spoke her (our) truth with such realness, utmost transparency and power that I cried hard (and I’m not even a mother yet). She explained so eloquently how and why women mother leaders would thrive and so witness hearing both of your journeys into this Union unfold was miraculous and sooooo refreshing. There was something that just hit different with this podcast; having two very strong women and two very opinionated and humble men truly put so many topics on the table that is necessary to hear for both parties. Justin, thank you so so much for allowing Emily to have a voice and share what so many woman face on the daily and yet, to radically be able to see you two men as husbands to show up better for your wives. I have always supported your Man Enough journey back from the HBO mini series, to the TedTalk, but this was on such another elevated level. WHOLEHEARTEDLY, thank you so so so much! I have advocated for the masculine to rise and show up better *but* as a collective from our female counterparts. Definitely the best episode ever! There were so many important topics on the table. My favourite part (hard to choose one) was when Liz explained how we overemphasize fathers. In that moment I had to admit to myself that I was part of the problem, since as a woman, I have been often surprised by men/fathers doing their bare minimum. That's because it is so rare to see fathers doing something that automatically we say "Wow, he pays so much attention on his kids! As he comes home from work he is totally focused on talking with the kids, playing with them ect". This part of the podcast really makes me wonder that I should encourage such good behaviour (as Jamey said, to go from 1 to 3) yet keeping in mind that overemphasize could be counterproductive. Finally, as someone on the comment has already suggested, all these deep conversations on the podcast and reflections on those topics as well as Justin's book should really get translated as much as possible. Here in Italy, this book could represent a real earthquake yet it is necessary to bring some positive change on a cultural basis.

First I admire how much love there’s between Emily and Justin. 💜✨ In my country which is Mexico the reality is different… here in Mexico or in latinamerica, I Think first we need to make understand women that been a mother and a housewife it ain’t just doing the laundry, it’s taking care of your house been a safe space for you and your love once, the work of mom’s it’s so important and with so much love…. after all, this podcast here is giving something 'real' for us to hear and feel we never really get to, and emotionally just being there through all of your minds deeply gives me a space of a very different feeling and relief which I've wanted for quiet some time. it was different for me how it has really been listening to this being 19 years old and it wasn't about just only about the things you talked about, there was a lot more that goes into that commitment of putting everything out on the table and being able to find a place where things are real and to connect everything going from mind to heart. this place has become somewhere I found emotional comfort so there was a lot more feeling that was attached with listening to this podcast that nothing else gives. what you guys do through this podcast is incredible and a lot more to all people who listen to it, lots of love to all of you

This podcast episode is SO helpful ~ especially the vulnerability for both Emily & Justin which gifted me hugely. I learned a lot and learned about ways I still help keep patriarchy intact by my own biases. Ugh. So thank you for showing me where I still need to grow & be responsible. Specifically I need to support women & women with children. And support companies & employers to seek out & employ women with children. I’ve had biases “against” women with children being hired because it feels like there will be more complications. The “gifts” of the challenges I see will bring helpful growth & richness to companies & businesses. Emily thank you for helping me listen & make changes. Definitely I have more & more to learn. One thing I felt like was SO important to hear is for men not to “ask” what to do in the home but to just come in and do stuff…like chores. And if they don’t know what to do, look, learn, bumble & go for it anyway. (I want to know how doing the laundry is going too! 👍🏼)

As a mama i felt so seen and heard and validated by Emily's sharing..which like she said, is a hard thing to come by in motherhood. And we don't only have to deal with feeling so unseen but then also deal with feelings of resentment and jealousy..this was a personal struggle for me because i then felt shame and guilt for feeling resentful and jealous ...so to hear Emily saying that she dealt with that as well was such a relief because i'm not alone. This was such a great and necessary episode.

Wuoh! This episode was raw. I dont have a partner, but i can extrapolate a lot of this things with the experience that i have living with my parents. I love them, they are the best parents in the world, but sometimes, i dont show my love in a way that they can feel it. I can give them kisses, hugs, tell them that i love them (i really love them), but then, i dont clean the kitchen, or maybe i dont do the laundry... This kind if actions are also love gestures, respect gestures nd even independence, mature gestures. This episode reminds me that i have to balance the love words that i tell to my parents with my actions. Respect my home, make the place comfortable for everybody its an amazing sign of love and respect. Not always letting others to take the iniative and do the fucking job. Cleaning, do the laundry, say love words... All this is an integral part of loving your community (and also loving yourself because you learn to be more independent and learn to value the different tedious jobs because you have 'suffer' it, its learning respect and honoring other). Thank you for remind me that! Probably i will fail a lot of times, i will be lazy, i will be stupid, but i always try to find the good way to respecting my family and do the work. Thank you emily for your words! I really appreciate more the work that my mother and my fatherdid (and still doing) for me. Thank you so very much for these conversations. They are so incredibly important, necessary and powerful. Would it ever be possible on this format, somehow, to translate the episodes into other languages like French and Spanish? I would love so much to be able to listen to this podcast with my partner, who only speaks French. I don't expect this to happen any time soon necessarily, but if there's any way to make that possible it would be so appreciated and wonderful.
