Its a little detail but I like that they animate them actually cleaning up the dishes. They didn't have to animate something so small but it was sweet of them.

I did not know Emily Rudd played Marcille! Heck, I didn't even know she is she is a voice actress 😂 So the plot hook for this anime is almost 100% inspired by the D&D module "Dungeon of the Mad Mage." The author apparently is a massive D&D nerd, and completed the manga in time for the BG3 release.

It's pretty wild, I didn't have plans to do this series until she just kind of quietly announced it in one of her Instagram stories. To my knowledge, this IS her first VA performance. She does really well. It surprised me that she plays a little softer with her voice here because she has a lower, almost sultry sound in One Piece. I'm very much becoming fascinated with this story, and I very much am in need of catching up on the last two episodes for the channel. Time to get recording!

It was actually inspired by a crpg called Wizardry. The author never played DnD, but she did research it, either for the making of her story or in hopes of trying a campaign. I have no idea which.

I really like the dub of deliciius in dungeon, everyone did such a good job. I found out about it because of laios' VA, damien haas because ive been a massive fan of his for a long time now and found it when he posted about it on his socials. I also think its really cool that all of the English voice actors kind of look like their characters, especially laios and chilchuck

I appreciate hearing that! I sometimes feel less like a reactor doing a street performance and more like a person in quiet contemplation in front of a beautiful work of art at an exhibit just taking it all in, and trying to find the right words. Oftentimes, I'm overthinking everything in life. It's been such a wonderful experience to do these reactions where I can just slow down and FEEL for a change. There's so much to love and appreciate about art and the art of storytelling. I'm glad you are enjoying!

I highly recommend _Frieren: Beyond Journey's End_ if you want good high fantasy. It follows the functionally immortal elf mage from the party that destroyed the demon king after all the other party members have gotten old and died as she retraces their steps to return to the demon king's castle for a personal quest. I basically describe it as LOTR if LOTR was about Legolas reconnecting with humanity after the rest of the Fellowship has died.

Your the first person I've found who reacted to the dub which i love it. I chose it for SungWon Cho as senshi much like you did for emily rudo.
@Noxiddar
@Noxiddar 3 ай бұрын
The entire voice cast absolutely delivered on their performances. I would have to agree with you that Senshi really completed the whole ensemble. ProZD (SungWon Cho) brings so much heart to the role of Senshi that I would honestly be down for anything he was suggesting to cook! That's strange to me that there isn't a lot of dub reactors out there. I suppose everyone has their reason, but I feel like most people choose it to avoid stigma or backlash? I see a lot of people adopt a kind of "purist" or "elitist" stand point and I find it quite silly. I generally gravitate toward original Japanese VA because I find the mannerisms, colloquialisms, and general sound effects and utterances in the performance are quite nostalgic to my time living in Japan and there's a certain kind of warm fuzzy feeling that just can't be replicated in the dub. But Emily Rudd and the rest of the cast of the Live Action One Piece blew me away, and is the entire foundation that led to me considering doing reactions in the first place. What a genuine treat (which is a phrase I loathe generally, but works really well with this show!) to discover how easy it was to get lost in this dub of Delicious in Dungeon. I hope you enjoy your stay, and try the living armor. I hear it's deceptively delectable!

small innaccuracy in the dub. someone was revived from shredded pieces, but no one has been revived from poop.
@Noxiddar
@Noxiddar 10 ай бұрын
Fair, but that's not what the dub implies either. I went back and listened and he asks if someone had been revived after being pooped out, to which Chilchuck shoots that idea down with "not that I've heard of." I think it's just played for a laugh than for an inaccuracy. But interesting if it's never mentioned at all in the original Japanese! I'm only watching the dub at the moment, so it doesn't take anything away from my viewing experience.

Haha, it's all a lottery, I just happened to roll over in bed and check the time and pop into the KZbin Studio app and saw your comment just then. I've no weird powers... that I know of. It's all good! I was just thinking after I read your comment that this whole localizer drama has probably done such irreparable harm to English dubs that I'm invariably going to encounter colorful characters on either end at some point, but I didn't think this was one of them. I am also getting ready to sit down and react to the newest episode (after coffee!) And I plan on sharing some thoughts on why I'm watching the dub, and also to play with the idea that after the first season I would like to to do a ultra reaction video to my favorite moments and highlights in the original Japanese with subs and talk about characters and comparison. I think that would be fun! I usually find dub really distracting because voice actors kind of settle into a "type" where it's all too recognizable. Like every time I hear Nolan North in video games, I think of Nathan Drake. Even when he was technically Desmond Miles in Assassin's Creed to me first. But Live Action Nami, dude from Smosh, and I'm almost positive the merchant from Whiterun in Skyrim isn't too distracting at all! Haha. But yeah! It's going to be an adventure, both with the show and in the comments, I'm sure. I'm here for all of it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It's going to be interesting to see how the localizer drama influences watching this English dub. I remember I tried watching the first episode of Vinland Saga with English subtitles on, and it wasn't even close. Haha. I find it more distracting when subtitles don't match more than anything.

I wonder if they will do the same with the recently announced "The One Piece". Again, that would be great for me as it wouldn't feel like it has invalidated the last few months working through the East Blue. It's certainly a welcome change, but I also think there is something to be said for having a new show have that "watercooler effect" (everyone at the office gathers around to talk about what they watched). But if this is how they are doing anime at the very least going forward, then I agree, this is a big change on binge culture.

@@Noxiddar Yes, I usually watch Japanese versions. It was my first time to listen to the Eng dub ver of the anime on your KZbin. However, I always watch Eng movies, like Harry Potter and LotR, with the original Eng audio + JP subs. So, the Eng ver sounds wonderful, exotic, and authentic to the fantasy genre for me, even though this manga's author is Japanese. Also I agree with your point which the anime has a good visual storytelling language. I love Marcille's rich facial expression changes.
@Noxiddar

This is such a great point! I think the only other anime I have planned to watch with English Dub is Vinland Saga, kind of for the same reason that you shared. Although, it's mostly because I read the manga first (in English) so I'm curious to see if the English voice actors are similar to the way I heard the characters in my mind. But I think for any other anime (especially the big 3) I'd like to watch in Japanese! There is a heavy nostalgia listening to it that reminds me of the years I lived in Japan. And I truly love how quite expressive the Japanese voice actors are! So this English dub, even beyond Emily Rudd as Marcille, is quite exceptional! I think a large part of that is that the voices match their personalities, not just the actions they are doing on screen! I'm looking forward to the next episode!

@@Noxiddar plus vikings speaking Japanese doesn't make sense
@Noxiddar
@Noxiddar 10 ай бұрын
@@ben0789 I wouldn't go that far. I don't get too bent out of shape when I watch a movie about ancient Rome and they all sound like they have posh British accents. Haha. I think for me it really comes down to my exposure of the property. For example, I've no doubt the DBZ original Japanese is fantastic. But I've only ever listened to the dub. I have such a strong association back to my childhood watching it on Toonami back in the day I couldn't imagine watching it any other way. I've found out this is also a double edged sword, because I can't listen to a lot of English dubs in anything else because all I hear are DBZ or DBZ-esque styled voice acting and it takes me out of it. I'm sure Vinland Saga will have those moments when I finally sit down to watch through it. But my first interaction with it was reading the hardback mangas. But I also try to remember that VS was created by people who hear Vikings speaking Japanese when they craft the story. So I think it's more a matter of familiarity than sense. If that... makes sense?

That could be really interesting. I've heard a lot of great things about it. I may have to start working on that in the background while I (try to) keep up with my currently active series! Thank you for the recommendation! I'm not really married to Sub or Dub, to be honest. I generally lean toward sub because of the actual language and expressive delivery, which feels nostalgic to my time living in Japan. I like Dub for focusing on familiar VA (such as this one), but also, it's really good for a more casual watch. Sometimes, I get too focused on subs. 😅 I'm not sure why other reactors tend to prefer one over the other. It may be a reputation thing, like not wanting the scrutiny of sub only purists. Some of it may be because it's easier to talk over subs for reactions. I notice with English Dubs that I feel like I'm competing with the dialogue if I try talking over it. Some weird psychology at work. I'm really enjoying the dub for this show, however! Either way, I'm glad you stopped by to check out the video and give me your recommendation!

I'd question whether they were really sub fans if they couldn't even catch that I denoted the episode as an English Dub in the title, if that's the case. I assumed reading was part of the sub charm. 🤣 I generally do the opposite outside of KZbin. I've been re-watching the episodes of One Piece I've already seen, but this time in the Dub while I work out at home. I actually appreciate the story more because while the majority of the experience is the same, HOW it's told feels filtered through a cultural lens, whether in colloquial dialogue, or even in the emotive sounds of characters. Everything is similar, and yet, everything is different. When I was younger, I used to put my energy equally into what I loved and what I didn't like. I thought this was a pragmatic approach to life - something like being balanced. And so I would place just as much importance on sharing with others what I liked as sharing what I didn't like. But what I found is that I wasn't balanced. I had filled two cups halfway and drank from both, never feeling satisfied or fulfilled by either. It wasn't until I put my energy into one cup, finding and sharing what I loved, even in the midst of something I didn't care for ultimately, I found a more satisfying and meaningful existence. If someone comes to complain, they are merely demonstrating to me how they pour their cups in this life and NOT how they drink from them. Enjoy this moment. I am glad to have shared it with you!

I wasn't initially going to reply to either of these comments with preferences (sub vs. dub) being what they are, which is fine, to be honest. I usually prefer sub because I tend to find the original Japanese VA to be more performance driven, and Western VA tends to be more caricature driven. But then I started thinking about what I have experienced of Marcille's character so far (up to episode seven). She's been put in quite an unusual situation. From the onset, she's reminded me of someone with middle child syndrome. She is kind of nestled in between Laios and Senshi's ages. And so, like a middle child she sees Laios' outlandish ideas as naivety on his part, pointing out that him going off on his own after his sister was folly since they all had a close connection with her. And she's often left feeling like her intelligence and wisdom are being ignored by the efficiency and self-reliance of Senshi. The classic expectation is that every elf is going to walk around stoic, spouting platitudes or some nonsense about why rocks look down or some other nonsense (Rings of Power). But Marcille is still young. Her character, largely because she's nestled between Laios and Senshi has made her a prisoner of the moment. I think the often sarcasm and meanness is warranted because if she didn't speak up at all, she would go largely unnoticed by her party. The outbursts are largely by necessity, rather than the nature of her character. When she feels in control, she's often very confident in her demeanor (even if it turns out to be a disaster). Marcille also plays the audience insert role, where because of her insistence on doing things traditionally at the expectation of the audience, we end up actually exploring more of the unusual things that make this show so memorable and wildly imaginative by subverting our expectations. I DO feel like Emily Rudd channels that frustration so well with her performance. My suspicion is that while the characters will grow closer as a family type, Marcille is going to have the biggest character arc, not just with finding her place in the party dynamic, but also by inheriting traits from those around her, such as the practical wisdom of Senshi and the out of the box thinking from Laios. Not every performance is going to meet everyone's standards, and I think that's okay. I myself am enjoying both Sub and Dub. (But now I should probably get to recording more reactions. I'm WELL behind.)
