Wow Emily has a strong portfolio and explain in depth what she did with meaning behind them. I just graduated today and I feel that my portfolio aren’t as strong. I know we are not supposed to compare ourselves to others but I definitely have all long way to go as a graphic designer. It is incredible to see her work even in early stage, I can see why she is valuable as a designer. Time for me to get some courses on The Future to learn more about design. Thank you for sharing Emily. I think you guys should do a few episodes on critiquing brand new graduate or self-taught graphic designers on their portfolio. Criticism can be such an asset to someone like myself.

This is awesome. Speaks to me on so many levels. I studied film and worked my way to be a cinematographer, but I realized it along the way it's not really working out. I switched to graphic design, but I still love the movie format, the motion, and the big picture. I really want to get involved with that more, but now as a graphic designer. This video reel idea is so great, I think I might give that a shot. Also, I love the whole Futur team, but Emily is definitely my favorite! Go Emily!

Really enjoy watching this video. Amazing portfolio for such a young designer. I’d be amazing to watch something like what employer is looking at while recruiting a new person for the agency. Why this stands up and what could we work on to make things better. I’ve already learned presentation is the key and it’s definitely worth working on this. I’m always confused how many pieces of work should I send and should I have something to explain what is it about or let the work speak for itself.

We've done several videos on how to present your work, and how to land your first internship. Also on various live streams we talk about what we look for in portfolios and people: 1. Work that looks like it belong's in the company's portfolio 2. An awesome personality. Your portfolio gets you the interview. Your personality lands you the job.

While designers are creative, many don’t yet have the life exposure to business, the other side of the brain that is charged to come up with rational content and subject matter , may be the biggest challenge...it’s like I want to write a book , but what is that book going to be about....? Hence it would really help that many collaborate with writers and marketing minds...
@maipardhan5 жыл бұрын
This needs imagination not rationality! Imagination and creativity are probably the most basics of the design field. Thus, I believe a designer in my opinion is more adept at creating Content and subject matter. Rationality is what most of us lack!

I thought the background on the "What's / Next" screen was a B&W picture of a dune. The time-space continuum figure looked to me as a red cell instead. The elliptical shape, and the red color, threw me off, even though she had provided context. The one in the middle even looks like a coffee grain. The idea of simulating light pollution with the panels was awesome. Having said that, I wish I could do the things she showed.

Is Macbook Air a good laptop if I'm gonna be concentrating mainly on graphic designing? Is the display good enough? I'm looking for something that's not very bulky but can handle Illustrator, Photoshop and the lot. Can anyone suggest a good laptop(Windows/Mac) for less than 1000$?
@emilyxie90116 жыл бұрын
Subin Krishna it will go above your budget but I would suggest the MacBook Pro 15 inches. If not, 13. MacBooks and MacBook airs won’t have enough processing power if you are doing heavy things on ai and ps. Also I feel like the standard for Apple products are all Retina display now and MacBook Air still isn’t.
