Manager says there's no reason to be disrespectful, yet she starts the conversation by disrespecting her employee and her needs to have time off.

Manager-speak: "there's no reason for YOU to be disrespectful." There's a reason why Ego Mush towts the same nonsense: free speech for me, but not for thee.

This Manager is Cleary setting up grounds for constructive discharge working double shifts for 17 days straight is bad for both of your mental and physical health.

My first job was at McDonalds, and I was scheduled for two weeks straight, back to back, with supposedly 8h shifts that turned into 12 with no breaks. I was going insane. When I pointed it out to my manager, she looked at the schedule, laughed, and said, "I guess we ARE trying to kill you" It's a miracle that I'm not a felon by now.

@@professormadlad7773 I have witnessed a coworker taking extra shifts because there was no one to cover them. Everyone else was already working their assignments. This guy was working 70+ hours a week. Then one day his check was way short. When he asked where his overtime pay was, the company literally told him that he was working too much overtime and was not going to pay it. He got the state labor board involved and they investigated the hell out of the company for over a year. Ended up getting the branch manager removed because he had a stack of off the books contracts on his desk when the auditors walked in. The customer would pay cash and the manager would then pay employees under the table to work these contracts and it would not be on their timesheets and they would be paid cash.

@@graceygrumble And, in most states in the USA, they are legally required to give you 24 consecutive hours off every 7-day period (any given 7 consecutive days), except very specific sectors (usually LEO, firefighter, medical). Military eould go here, but that's Federal

As the manager is there to manage the rota of the staff. And they are responsible to make sure that they have all the shifts covered. If they can’t get the worked covered. It’s their responsibility to cover the shortfall in the work place

My dear mother worked behind bars and also tended tables as a waitress most of her working life. And, let me tell you that if Karen tried pulling that crap on my mum she would have her on her knees in tears, as my mother’s tongue is probably more deadly (psychologically speaking) than a gun. My mum is a a hard worker and a good leader, and no one wanted to do big functions unless she was in charge though.

Not my problem. As I've been working doubles for the last almost 3 weeks now, I won't be here because my physical/mental health is more important than any job. What's that? No one can cover? Again, not my problem. If no one can cover, you can cover as the manager. If you don't want to cover, just close the pub for a day.

The managers who have never worked the floor piss me off the most because they act like they know best when they have ZERO experience doing it themselves. “Oh i worked escalations dept for UPS” different f’n type of work, different carnival Karen. It screams pretentious to me, there are scenarios they don't consider and then their bosses up their ladder are somehow more ignorant! so glad i left my toxic customer service job and i'm doing what i do now.

I don't know how it is in the UK (where this is clearly staged), but I DO know in some places in the US, it IS the responsibility of the manager to cover shifts when there are discrepancies in shift filling. You can't force people to work when they're entitled to a day off, and doing so is illegal harassment. Not only would they be reprimanded by HR, they'd probably lose their job.
