Been there. A couple of times in the middle of traumatic situations people have asked how I'm so calm, and I say "just dissociating. It'll hit me later" lol. I think that power comes with experiencing a lot of trauma, unfortunately. At least it's helpful though, that and the sharpening of intuition. Atp I am borderline psychic in reading people, f-cking no one can lie to me lol.

Girl, Im near Altadena and thought my parents were going to lose their home, the home I grew up in. It's my home too, but Im very lucky theyre not making me pay shit while unemployed, so I call it their home. Having a hard time falling asleep in high winds because you're worried about a fire, then waking up to the cops shouting into a megaphone telling everyone to get ready to leave is something Ill never forget. It spread so fast, in hindsight I should have expected it I know of so many who lost everything, friends of my parents, families of my family. Some lost the tools of their job, such as construction tools. And now Im just sitting here trying to look for jobs when it feels like nothing matters. Im so sad. Everything feels so sad

I am so sad to hear that you have been right in the middle of this. These fires have caused so much devastation it is so terrible. I am glad you are okay and so relieved your home is still standing. It's such a dark time right now, and must have been so scary to hear the evacuations in the night. Ugh :(

My heart's with you girl. I was right next to the Tubbs Fire here up north in 2017. It started on my day off, and I remember waking up and smelling smoke, which is already scary af, and before I could even figure out what was behind that, I looked out my window and saw that it was dark out for 8am, the atmosphere was a dark yellow, it was smokey with low visibility and there was ash on my car. F-cking terrifying. And things only got worse from there of course. It was so surreal still having to go to work the proceeding days, where we were all coughing ourselves to death (AT A LIQUOR STORE - soooo important that we stay open 🙄). Fortunately my area was spared, but not everyone I knew was so lucky. The trauma of that is still with me today. Stay safe, and thank you for sharing those links.

I've seen so many Northern Californians offer comfort to us, it's been a beautiful thing. We are so far from each other that it sometimes feels as if we're two different states, but when things get tough we really stick together The Tubbs was started by PG&E wasn't it? There is speculation and video that suggests the Eaton fire was started by SCE, the power company of a large amount of southern California. Our power companies have so much blood on their hands

@NettleAbsentmindedly of course! We can relate and you are our kin 🥰. And yes, PG&E has been responsible for a lottaaaaa fires up here. They have only started taking the issue seriously in the past few years or so. And guess what? In those few years, no major fires up here! At least near me, that I can remember. I think they only started caring because the cost of the damages they had to cover started becoming larger than the cost of maintenance and repair of dangerous areas. And they have the audacity to put out these corny "PG&E cares" commercials. They're evil. If your guys' power company is responsible, I hope you have better luck than we did holding them accountable.

Girl, I feel you! Three years ago I was so proud of myself, I had one paid off car, and another new (used) GORGEOUS vehicle, nearly paid off. Both - got destroyed in a 2 week period. Worse even, I was blamed for the one accident, despite NOT causing it (a whole OTHER story 😭!). I could not prove otherwise in court, and I spent 3 years paying obnoxiously high insurance rates. I also had my home paid off, for 8 years - which I believed to be in good condition. In a months time, my upstairs plumbing went out, destroying the downstairs kitchen (it all needed redone!). My insurance company dropped me from my homeowners insurance for an “old” roof (AFTER I replaced the BAD part!). Then some electrical issues lead me to find out my upstairs furnace and main line into my house - were ready to burn down. Everythjng I was proud that I had, and had hard worked for - was gone in a few months time. I’ve had a house payment, and car payment, ever since - and DURING Biden’s evonomy. It’s been HARD. I learned that even when you “think” things are fine and you are doing well - you’re literally one bad day away from ruining/losing IT ALL!
