Here’s a little hack I’ve used for years…when planting flowers or veggies purchased in little pots, I dunk the pot with the plant in it into a bucket of warm water…then quickly take the plant out and into the hole in the garden. That makes sure the whole plant and root system gets a drink and I don’t need to water from above for a few days, depending on rainfall.

Hi Emily, 👏👏great job on building your garden bed, this will gives you lots of yummy vegetables 🥕🍠🥦🥒🥬🫑and you are so good of cooking a healthy meal. This arugula chicken salad with berries looks so delicious. 👏👌🏼Also, love your idea for building boards around the porch, these will protect you more from wind, cold weather, rain and snow. Love those colorful flower that you planted.👏👏👏👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 So glad to see you’re little by little getting use to your new house and you’re active for building different things. You are so talented. You’re so lucky if you have any question you can ask your wonderful expert father. Btw, do you live close to your father? How far is it? Is your cabin on the same land as your dad? It would be so nice if you guys live close to each other. God bless you and your dear family, Take care, keep up the good work. love you🌺🙋🏻♀️ From San Francisco, California, USA

I really enjoy your channel. I find it relaxing to watch you take on little challenges and grow your skills. I hope you might take the precaution of fitting some chicken wire around you front garden bed to deter critters and animals from eating your produce before you do! Keep up the good work and sharing your infectious smile. We all need more of them in these troubled times. 😁✌❤🏡

Just an idea: You could put a roll of clear plastic sheeting on a roller at the top of your porch half wall and pull it down over your house garden during the early spring months, creating a mini-green house/cold frame. Make some detachable sides for the ends of the raised beds and you could use the raised beds for seed starts for your larger garden. Once the starts are moved, plant flowering annuals in the beds in front of the cabin...

The owl painting is really nice with such gorgeous colours. We got hit by a lot of snow here in Manitoba, so I'm hoping you didn't get the same storm and that your flowers survived the weather. I now have to wait longer for any outdoor gardening here. Your cabin is truly looking great Emily.

Have been a subscriber of your Dad for a couple of years and when he mention you had started your own channel on You Tube, decided to come over and sample your content. It certainly helps that you grew up with a Dad that knew how to get along in the wilderness, and to build things. Have been enjoying your content and looking forward to more of it.

Emily ~~~ Thank You for another superb video! When you make yourself a meal, it looks YUMMY! LOVE those pansies! It will be cool to watch your garden beds grow! Homegrown is THE BEST way to go! Your steps will look great with some potted plants, herbs 🌿 and some solar lights. When you get the insulating part of your house done underneath, you can "seal" it up with lattice work all the way around your house. Then those pesky little rodents 🐀, rabbits 🐰, racoons 🦝, and skunks 🦨 can't get under your house and porch! Your porch will be a great place to have a daybed (good place to take the occasional nap!) I can't wait for your next video! Until then~~~ Stay safe, healthy and happy!!

Hey Emily, I liked your Heart Shaped Philodendron plant. I inherited one in 1996 & had it in my office where I worked for 23 years. I left it there when I retired in 2019. At one point it was about 60' long as it had 2 main runners which climbed over our workstations in two different directions. We also made many cuttings from it.
@484Northern2 жыл бұрын
Maybe this has been mentioned already, But before you started to rake the garden soil level again I notice the groove in the soil from the rain runoff from the porch roof. You may want to get some Gutters put up there to keep the water from undermining the root system of your plants. Also it would be a good water collection option for them..... However I'm sure you already know this. ;-) All the Best

a good rooting medium ... willow bark ... locate willow ... trim a few smaller branches off of several willows ... cut into smaller bits ... that will fit into a bucket ... add warm water to the branches leaves and all the bits you cut .. let steep for a day then use that water to water with ... and yes keep topping off after each watering ... after a week make new batch of willow water ... and compost the remains in a garden ... willow is a natural rooting compound and should grow in your area and your dads quite well ... . and dont forget ... get a head start on future gardens or farming land ... seed it with grasses and other plants some you can harvest and others you can scythe down and use as mulch for the current garden and turn the stubble into the future plot ... prebuild the soil up ... asperagus is a lover of acidic soil .. and goes great with butter when steamed and nice skinny shoots ... and yes it can even be pickled for storage .. makes a nice vegetable mix chutney also ...
@0623kaboom2 жыл бұрын
a quick way to measure a square foot garden ... get some skinny branches .. about 1/2inch thick ... at least 4 ... 6 is a little better ... lay out in a 6 inch grid 3 up 3 across ... lash the joins together ... and just flip the grid along the garden ... each gap is a place to plant ... carrots are 4 to a 6 inch square ... taters are 1 ... so is lettuce like iceberg ... romain lettuce can do 2 BUT you will need to eat a lot of romain for that ... and so on ... its quick easy and after planting can be stuck behind peas or beans as a trellis for them to grow up along .. and it stays near the bed for the next planting season too ;) and dont forget grapes grow great in acidic soil ... especially canadian blue grapes ... not to mention they make excellent wine and are awesome to pop in the mouth for a snack or into salads and yes they make excellent jam too ...
@0623kaboom2 жыл бұрын
nice video ... as expected ... how about a video or two showing you getting other parts of your land ready for future planting or other uses like a work house or potting shed or crafting shed etc ... also look up making cordage on youtube .and you can have a quick little craft that will get you some basic cordage (twine) to tie things up with like tomatoes and peas and beans and grapes etc ... never forget the farmers rule of thumb ... a new plant every year in the same spot ... and every 7th year fallow or just a tillable plant like clover for the next season of planting ... and before you get there you need a year or 3 to get the soil primed for farming even on a gardeners scale ..
