Impractical obsession: I’m a complete sucker for blush. I want it all, in every color, (whether it goes with my skin color or not lol) and every formula. Powder, cream, liquid, stick, bring it all to me!!!! I can’t possible wear it all, but I still want it all. Practical obsession: Mascara-super easy to apply, and a great one makes such a huge impact. Not exactly makeup but still related? I LOVE perfume. A great mascara and an amazing perfume and I feel unstoppable. 😊

I’m always on the hunt for my next “favorite.” I also started doing my own gel nails in January and I’ve become a bit obsessed with acquiring the tools and the skills. I don’t wear foundation, but I do wear tinted sunscreen. My focus is on skin care and the basic skin barrier and its protection. I am 65 and I am blessed with great skin. But i also have been very gentle on my skin and used sunscreen consistently. I worked several jobs throughout my earlier life and never took a vacation. Between school and work, my face was never in intense sun, so this too made a difference. Now I do follow all your suggestions. I always love the products you choose. I love a multi-stick and I love playing with color. That ND palette you focused on recently is my first big splurge and it is versatile and beautiful. I too love good lipliner. Thank you for all your videos. I love your children. They are precious and give me so much hope for the future. You are the Best!

I still do my own nails once a week at home. I can’t afford the nail salon and I don’t like the press on nails so I learned to do my own. I repurchase my top and base coat often but I do not buy nail polishes often. I just use the ones I already own. Love your videos ❤

This concept really resonates with me. My purchases are very phase-driven lol. In 2020 when I was in lockdown and working from home I was in a total eyeshadow palette phase. I bought dozens and used them for a creative outlet at home, rather than stuff I'd actually wear out. I've had a stick foundation phase, a liquid lipstick phase, an eyeshadow stick phase and last year I was into buying lip stains. I never thought I'd care about blush but 2024 is the liquid/cream blush year for me lol. In the past two years or so I've been more focused on buying stuff I'll actually wear day-to-day (sheer foundations, liquid/cream highlighters, concealers). I started painting my nails around 2018 and I'm still a regular polish buyer. I don't feel bad about those purchases because I always have polish on, so I use them. But since 2021 I've turned my attention to indie polish brands (ILNP, Cirque Colors...) so I rarely buy polish in stores now because indie brands just have more interesting finishes and colors to me. But for makeup it seems like each year I get hyper-fixated on a couple of categories and buy a bunch to test them. And then a year later I look back and say "wow did I really need to buy 15 lip stains last year???" Haha

I’ve recently gotten into eyeliner but not black. I saw a tip to only line the outer edges to make your eyes pop if you’re nearsighted and wear glasses and it’s been a game changer. Also, I can never line my eyes well but doing that little triangle on the outside is super easy. I’ve been really enjoying seeing how all the difference colors change my look. I’ve always been a sucker for blush and I love a good lippie.

I completely agree on drugstore brushes! They hold up just as well as my high end brushes. On the nail polish side, I still paint my nails with regular old nail polish but use a quality top coat. 💅

For nail polish, I highly recommend trying out the brand Olive and June. They have become my favorite! I follow their tips and they last a week without chipping (most weeks!) It’s just an easy normal nail polish!

Emily I’m a nail polish junkie. I got sucked down the rabbit hole of the indie brands and I’m hooked. I still love eyeshadow but I don’t need any. I own around 80ish regular nail polishes (I’ve slacked off buying for awhile) and I don’t know how many stamping polishes. I generally paint my nails twice a week, sometimes three if I do nail art. My nails, eyeshadow & clothing match in some way when I go out, 98%of the time!

Do you remember back in the day when a lot of the beauty gurus would have nail polish recommendations and hauls. Now I feel like there’s a separate niche for nail polish enthusiast. I remember buying the new releases from sinful colors or OPI. I agree with highlight, nail polish, and large eyeshadow palettes. I’m not drawn to those anymore. I’ve cut back the makeup I wear considerable since after the pandemic. I’m a nurse and I hated seeing makeup all over my face mask. So I focused on skin care and wear minimal makeup now. Mostly blush, eyebrow, mascara.

It's a product that you don't use as much as a bronzer or a blush in terms of the quantity that you actually put in your face and they are the same size, you never run out of those and I have conflicting thoughts about that lol, I feel like they should make them smaller. I'm with you on the foundation sticks. I have purchased a few this year, Fenty being the best. I do look forward to a dupe for the ABH one you showed. I don't know how long to wait but I feel like we will see one before this year ends. If I can't wait I will after pay and go to Dillard's to find my shade match. I also find myself buying, trying and using eyeshadow sticks. I guess I have everything in a stick for a full face, minus powder. But I just use a setting spray instead for those days. I m someone who does shop regular nail polish. I was blessed with great nails and so I do paint them every week. Sometimes I try to get two weeks out a paint job but normally I can only get one. I have a large stash. I like the LA Colors polishes. They are inexpensive but must be put on a good base coat like Orly.

I was just thinking about this yesterday as I was looking at my makeup collection. I realized I am much more into concealers, skintints, sunscreens, blush/bronzer…when in the past I was all about the eyes: eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara. I have a lot of lip glosses and lip balms, but I hardly ever wear a fully pigmented lipstick. In the past, I never bought cream products, but now with the newer technology and better formulas, I love a cream cheek product. I also love makeup brushes, which I never really cared about before.

I love face pallets, the full face type. The practicality is just too hard to past up. I also love eyeshadow pallets, that’s the main part of my makeup collection. I’m fairly lucky that my skin is good so I’ve started to buy less liquid foundations and I’ve now got into powder foundations. I’m not big on brow products or bronzers but I love eyeliners, the really colourful ones, the brighter the better.

Great topic! I feel like I am more mindful before purchasing the “next big thing.” I agree about the large palettes and nail polish. I’ve also been passing on “theme” make up because it is frustrating to fall in love with, let’s say a PAC-man brush, and then it is discontinued. Hi Emily! I am and always been drawn to blush, lipsticks, lip liners, and mascara. Skin tints too. Not really makeup, but I've been seriously drawn to fragrance lately. So many wonderful and affordable ones out there. What I'm buying less of are primers, eye liner, setting sprays, and highlighter. I have found that a good sunscreen beats any primer PS...my new favorite lip combo is a deep red lip liner paired with a nude lipstick 💄

I used to be so interested in foundations and eyeshadow palettes. Now not as much. In no particular order I'm drawn more to liquid blushes (nice subtle shades), full coverage concealers (still looking to find one that will or a way to cover my undereye shadows) and cream eyeshadow sticks that can be used for everyday looks. Always like an eye pencil for the waterline that will not budge. Mainly want to stay in the drugstore / affordable range. I haven't done my nails like before. Now work in a warehouse and tend to break my nails so no sense in doing my nails. Miss it at times though.

I'm drawn to finding the perfect red lipstick and I think I finally found it. I tried the Wet n wild soft blur one in I'm Shy after one if you videos, then I found Little Red Rosette and it's perfect 👌. I also love fingernail polish! Yes, regular old polish. Drawn to lip products! (see more below) I too enjoy foundation sticks, but since trying Merit - I am done - their stick foundation is amazing on my 67 yo skin. My "less drawn" to list is the same as yours : larger eye pallets - I have found one I really love - Nabla Cutie Palette - that with Alter Ego's Sakura palette - done! (I have pale skin and blue eyes) I still have a couple of the L. Mercier Cavier sticks...done! Foundation has got me hooked right now. Being close to 60 and trying to find the one that works best with my skin... Anastasia Luminous foundation for the win so far.. Still trying to find a good mascara that doesn't make my lashes fall, so I'm into that too. My thought is getting the products I like and then keeping those in my every day look instead of trying new over and over, I'd love to save some money lol. Love your content! ♥

I’m a sucker for eyeshadow palettes. I used to buy tons of different foundations, I no longer buy a bunch. I like lighter coverage and now have one medium and one full if I need it. I hardly buy concealer and I don’t buy a bunch of primers a lot any more either

Wet n wild stuck foundation is the holy Grail I keep going back to. I love to load it up with a Kabuki and focus it where I want coverage. I love the texture and the amount of control I get.

omg!! I agree with the highlighter sentiment. i think also with the (re)appearance of glowy products in makeup i dont feel much need to pin point highlight bc its all already glowy sort of glowy w my base products. i also agree with makeup lines doing 10 million versions of the same products! tbh im on the bench w dupes, bc yes i would like dupes that offer sort of the same experience when applied but it's sort of... tacky when brands like elf legit copy products. like cool, a could be dupe but... make it less obvious pls😭btw!! I absolutely LOVE this shadow on you!! and the lip combo is INSANELY pretty.

So many thoughts! I randomly grabbed the Tom Ford stick on deep discount when Morgan Taylor recommended it and have to say: WOW! I mean I was never ever able to enjoy those types if foundations because they were so heavy. Talk about a game changer. I am a huge fan of Odile Monad’s channel for Korean beauty and am delving into the realm of Korean skincare for mature skin. And Japanese blush and eyeshadow is a constant, but truly appreciated as we go into the cycle of more subtle beauty.

In my 60’s, I am leaning heavily on cream or liquid products versus powder - blush, bronzer, eye shadows. Powders seem to accentuate wrinkles and pores more. I’m going towards skin tints and less for full coverage foundations. As well, I’m buying less matte liquid lipsticks. Though I do use the cream lip-stains from Sephora with a gloss over top. I’m mainly returning to lip liners with a bullet lipstick like I used to and for everyday I’m using those Covergirl tinted lip balms.

I’ve enjoyed reading all the comments. I also had the same nail question. I love regular nail polish! I’ve done both Acrylic and Gel (blue light) on my nails. Yes they are beautiful 😍, however, my nails were so damaged afterwards. Filing my nails hurt, and the UV light burns my skin. I’m into lighter makeup these days. No glimmers, shimmers, fallouts, glitters etc… / I prefer light coverage with matte bronzer and lipstick. I don’t wear any liners anymore.

The multitasking palettes are my go to for some years now, still have my IT cosmetics palette from your two years ago recommendation. and also I love shadow sticks and stick foundation, actually anything in a stick! As for nails, sometimes I go for gel manicure in a salon, but mostly basic at home. Thanks for the update, great eye make-up btw, love the cool toned eyeshadows on your eyes!

I'm drawn to anything that's fast and easy to apply; cream shadows, cream/liquid complexion products, etc. And especially any lipstick that's kind of a lipstick/balm hybrid, love those so much. I've also really gotten into K beauty in the past couple years. I haven't really been buying much for eyeshadow palettes either, or they're the really "boring" ones that require very little thought because with little guys around I have a very short amount of time for makeup! 😂

I still do my own nails and I love nail polish! I'm talking regular nail polish. Orly, Sally Hansen, Cirque colors, Morgan Taylor, China glaze. I find doing my own nails a very meditative practice.

I’m typically drawn to lipstick, eye shadow palettes, and concealer. Lately, I’ve been buying less blush, eyeliner, foundation, and powder. In regards to other beauty products, I tend to buy lotion, EDP, and nail polish. I’m not buying so much body butter, body scrub, or hair products.
