We agree, drawing is something that everyone can learn to do, if it's presented well like we see on this channel! Creating distinct overlaps is one thing that people new to art often miss, but when you consider that a contour line in drawing is basically the boundary between something in front and something behind, it makes sense. The more information we can encode into the lines (in front or behind, light over dark or dark over light, longer or shorter, etc.) the more believable our art can become!

Could you do a session on what colors to use to do shading on things (not shadows…shading)? Also how intense to mix that color and how to blend it in. Thank you for your videos.

I definitely need a lot of help with my drawing skills. When I was younger I was always drawing but then I got away from it as life became more complicated. I really need to start doing this more. This was a big help and I would love to see more videos on drawing. Thank you for the video and great information.

Thanks so much for recommending this book! I’ve been illustrating for a while but lately I’ve been really wrapped up in concept and character design, so I bought the book to practice drawing fundamentals. This is a great book! I like it so much I went to their website drawing with Bruce and bought two more of his books. I just love them!

I love your teaching techniques. You make things seem so simple. You have taught me a lot. I do want to suggest that you should say "farther" away, not "further" away. Although many people use the two words interchangeably, ther has to do with distance, such as how away in the distance something looks.

The surface lines genuinely blew me away. I know that phrase gets used a lot lately, but somehow it's the only one of those I never knew about...because I've never noticed it before. You put the lines on that first leg and I was like "But that's not helping at all," and then somehow after the second leg...it was like watching you and other artists going from ugly-stage painting to finished: I watched the whole process and it STILL looks like magic. 😂 And the donut honestly does the same thing! I never would've thought to change the lines on the back half!
