I really don't understand why people hated on this album. I feel like it's some of Eminem's best work. I love authenticity in an artist above all. I feel like everyone who hated on this album are fake, shallow people. I just call it like I see it.

This. I loved this album. Kamikaze and Words to be Murdered by were good but for different reasons.
@ericmiller93313 жыл бұрын
I understand why people hated on it- its the production on a lot of the songs. The lyricism is top tier but i think its fair to say a decent amount of the tracks didnt have the most sonically pleasing instrumentals. That, and a lot of people dont wanna hear political opinions on songs even tho i personally respect EM a ton for putting fans at risk for what he believes is right. I think he's gotten much better at choosing beats, ESPECIALLY in MTMB

I think this is why he took the backlash to revival so personally because of songs like this. He said working with Beyoncé had always been on his wish list. He got a very different positive reaction to the live nye performance of this than he did online.

If you go and check, a lot of Eminem's songs that feature a female on the hook often feature Skylar Grey as a co-writer including this one as well as Love the Way You Lie with Rihanna, it sounded like Skylar Grey singing on that SNL medley, she often tours with him singing these songs as well as the ones that she features on, he has been consistently working with her since the first time on I Need a Doctor, so something like a decade + now

You should do Believe next. It transitions from Walk on Water (and next song on the album). You will love it. The best way to listen to Believe is listening to Walk ON Water and Believe in one go. So when you react to 'believe', make sure you start the video with the last verse from Walk on Water.

Eminem has had mixed reviews with just about every album he’s released, as in there’s always detractors for every album. But the feedback when revival was released really struck him in a much different way. I believe this is because Revival is the first time he truly showed his vulnerabilities to the world through his music without using a comedic front or hiding it in double entendres. “Revival” means being revived from the dead. As in he killed the old juvenile, childish, over the top cynic he had been and was reviving as a mature, woke grown man with shit to say. And for his efforts he got slammed and ridiculed. In the same way that the worst thing a parent can do to damage or scar their child for life is to punish them when they do good things…..Eminem heard the response to him bearing his soul in an honest way and people shit all over it. That’s why he was so mad and why Kamikaze had the grit and ferocity it did. He wanted revenge for trying to be vulnerable and getting hurt.
@frizzlethecat20843 жыл бұрын
And I'm forever grateful that his reaction was to get up and fight harder than fall into a deep depression. There's sadly enough examples of creative people who couldn't stand that criticism and ... many are not around anymore. Kamikaze might have been a bit over-the-top (for some) but it's fun and snarky and there's something to be said about bitter, angry Eminem.
@theamazingtif3 жыл бұрын
It still guts me that he predicted how ppl would react to the album and they obliged him. The Queen blessed this song and they’re perfect together. She was ethereal and almost floating above it all. He was the gritty reality of what it’s like on the ground. The doubles, triples and ad libs are everything. You hear him writing, crumpling up the paper and tearing it up in the back ground. No way to catch everything the first time.
@chronicinokla3 жыл бұрын
Another layer I feel is the last lyrics. I walk on water only when it freezes... To me meaning the colder the industry treats him, the more other artists or fans reject him as being part of history in hip hop .... The better more Rap God he is.

That song grew so much on people including myself. When i first heard it I didn't really like it. But went back and gave the album a whole new run after a couple of years and Walk On Water became one of the stand out tracks. To think most the critique/hate stammed from that specific song.

the live version you saw with skylar grey, she is actually the song writer for this, i need a doctor, like home, love the way you lie, need me and tragic endings for eminem. so i'm not sure you can call it a cover for the writer to sing a song they wrote or not even if someone else sang it. idk

Of all the songs that I've listened to, I truly appreciate this song. Marshall is historic, listening to Marshall is, in my opinion, what it must have been like watching Michaelangelo paint the Sistine Chapel's ceiling. Also in my opinion, Beyonce is probably the only artist (Mary J Blige could take Beyonce's spot here) who is talented enough to be featured with Marshall. They both are just trying to come off to tell their audience that they are human, just like you.

Technically it's Beyonce doing the cover. The hook was written by Sklar. And Em only heard it because Rick Rubin had it playing in the background when Em was at his house.

man.... I really liked this album. I know it caught a lot of flak from people... but I kinda feel like this album wasn't for the casual listener but was more geared towards his family/friends, to true fans that understand him and his journey, and for himself. He's done a lot of soul searching.... Castle / Arose is my favorite off this album... Love or hate it no one can say that he wasn't spitting... he absolutely was still spitting fire.. but maybe it wasn't your flavor....
