This was the album Eminem released independently before he signed to a major label, this is the album that got Dr. Dre’s attention when it landed on his desk in California. Dre was so impressed he sent Eminem a plane ticket to come to Aftermath records and the rest is history.
@Vuurvlieg212 жыл бұрын
I think you misunderstood something. This is the first album Eminem released independently, true, but it didn’t get dr. Dre’s attention. Instead it completely flooded to such a degree that Eminem completely changed his style. Some time later he (again independently) produced the ‘Slim Shady EP’ which eventually DID get Dré’s attention. They then reproduced that album with a bunch of additional songs for the Major Label debut of the ‘Slim Shady LP’.

@@Vuurvlieg21 Yeah you’re right I misspoke it was the Slim Shady EP that Dr. Dre’s attention got not this album, stand corrected.

em's Cadence in 96 sounded a lot like nas to me when ifrst heard this album. when you break down the lyrics all the bars make sense. like he isnt rhyming words that just sound to good together it all ties in within the next lyric

His whole album is like this. When it comes to em the whole slim shady thing came from a necessity to market him and get him noticed. This was him before. If you noticed these days he has sort of gone back to this chilled out version of himself now hes famous. It still makes me laugh that this version of eminem flopped hard.
@LILJ_3032 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the knowledge. I’m definitely loving the album so far it’s the first song i play when I wake up.
@Oatmilllk2 жыл бұрын
It annoys me when people don't understand the history and say this album flopped. You can't flop if you aren't signed yet. This is from his first mixtape before he was signed. This album was never officially released by a record company so it is impossible for it to flop. He made about 500 physical copies and handed them out himself with Deneaun (Mr Porter, his hype man) and they all sold. This is part of the main reasons he got noticed, this and his rap competitions
@charg1nmalaz0r512 жыл бұрын
@@Oatmilllk its a turn of phrase, i am implying that this version of himself didnt get the same amount of buzz as his slim shady persona which is accurate. When he made this no one fucked with it. it was only after when he switched up his style and did a bunch of rap battles did someone hear his slim shady ep and hand it off to people.
@Oatmilllk2 жыл бұрын
@@charg1nmalaz0r51 Obviously, because it was never officially released. A lot of people don't even know it exists. The record labels promote songs, artists and albums when the artist is signed.. this album was from when Em wasn't signed yet, he made it himself and I think Denean produced the beats
@charg1nmalaz0r512 жыл бұрын
@@Oatmilllk i'm not talking about it flopping in the sense it didnt sell i am talking about it flopping in the sense of getting him noticed. All the reviews on it at the time basically told him he was just a clone of a bunch of rappers. The thing that got him noticed was his rap battles and his ssep
