Every time I hear the part where Em realises it was Stan who killed himself, I start to tear up. It’s not just a catchy tune, it’s one of the greatest stories ever told. Not a rap fan, but always loved Eminem, and this one in particular. 'Stan' is for all those of us struggling with life, insecurities, worries, self doubt, needing help. I'm feeling all these things right now. I wish I could go back 20+ years and make changes to my life. I walked away from the only person I've ever loved, and fucked up five lives in the process.

I've done the same brother. I just wanted to spare the one i loved, so i left her. I knew hard times are peeking me just right the corner and i did not want to pull her into danger. In the process of sparing her i just ruined her, and my life aswell. Since then i just refuse every single chanche of happyness. I already ruined a life. Wont do it again. I know it is just an average story. I just wanted to tell that you are not alone with this struggle! ❤️

This song will always hit differently. I grew up listening to this song while it was rainy on long drives with my dad mom and siblings. I never liked slim in this song but I'm relistening to this as a teen and realized how insane Stan was. He tried excusing his mental health deteriorating on Slim. Anyway, before I start rambling on how I somehow relate to Stan.

I still get chills from this song. And I cry. The hopelessness of life, getting someone you can relate to(light in the darkness), reaching out to them, not getting a response and ending it all. Without knowing they weren't able to reach out coz of other reasons.
@EEnde2 жыл бұрын
I think rather it's a commentary on parasocial relationships. The fan goes from loving to obsessive, going as far to hurt himself and people around him to prove a point. He's entirely obsessed with someone who doesn't even know who he is. Just imagine, there are thousands of stans. There are so many fans that Eminem couldn't possibly write them all in a reasonable amount of time without going mental.

@@user-lr8jt8th4o Off of the official Grammy's website, on a list of 10 facts about Em: "Eminem’s 2000 smash-hit “Stan” was not based on a real person. However, the song, which tells the story of an obsessed fan who kills himself and his girlfriend after Eminem fails to respond to his letters, was inspired by the rapper’s real experiences. After receiving disturbing fan mail in response to his sophomore album, The Slim Shady LP, Eminem wrote the track as a “message to fans” not to take his lyrics literally. The Dido-sampling song became a career-defining hit and the term “stan” became an official addition to the Oxford English Dictionary."
