Great video dude. I've watched it a few times over the years. Its really one of the few that gives a clear contrasting sample to help form an opinion without actually buying one or the other. Cheers!

You’ve been consistently good, watched all your Victoria Amplifier videos, again and again. Lots of speaker videos too. I use all these speakers too. The Victoria came with GA SC64s, and still use it today. The Alnico Blues have been all over in my rig, because it has ‘the perfect’ sound that lacks all the scrappy bite for my high gain tones. But at 15W ea they never get used on 100W amps, so they ended up parked on a Peavey Classic 50/50 EL84 amp. I’ll throw high gain at them mostly, but also crystal clear stuff too, used as a contrast to the GA SC64, set warmer. Nicely built 1x cab there. A friend helped me build my 1x cabs and we designed them to connect to a 2x cab, stackable with the interlocking corners. We doubled up 5/8 birch for the cabs and the baffles and backs are single ply. Tolex wrapped, grill clothes in little frames are removable, so they front load, was much more expensive than buying cabs off craigslist, but kept me busy during the recession. Work was slow. Another great video. You must be a touring musician. Take care. -Jim

I was told the Blue Alnico is only good if you can crank it, bedroom volume clean sounds will not be impressive. Would you agree with that? Also how do these speakers compare at bedroom volume? Thx
@northfortyrecords
@northfortyrecords 6 жыл бұрын
I would not agree with that statement at all. The Blue is a wonderful speaker for low volume work - it's only a 15 watt speaker - can't push it too much anyway ;) What people are most likely talking about is the 'alnico qualities' (meaning a softer attack when using overdrive or a compressed feel) are more apparent at higher volumes. At low volumes, it's just very articulate speaker suited perfectly for the electric guitar's frequency range. It's not even my favorite overal speaker, but it's one of the best. Another alternative that is fabulous and sounds great with nearly every amp is the Weber Silver Bell Alnico 30 watt - such a great speaker....

Have you tried The Celestion Cream, if so care to share your thoughts ?
@northfortyrecords
@northfortyrecords 6 жыл бұрын
@@profile1251 I borrowed a friend's Celestion Cream 90 alnico. A very nice speaker, can sound good in a lot of different situations. Compared to my Jensen Blackbird alnico, though, the Jensen has the nice Fender high end snap that I adore for cleaner guitar. The Cream had a harder snap to it which didn't always jive with my ear.

Great video man! I don't know much about the Blue Angel, but I just came by a '62 brown Princeton that I'm really digging. I'm looking to put a 12" speaker in it to preserve the original 10, but don't know what route to go. I've heard people say the alnico blues marry well with tweed deluxes and brown fender amps, but I'm wondering if that might be too much mids since the brown Princeton is already a mid foward amp. Any suggestions?
@northfortyrecords
@northfortyrecords 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I would totally recommend the Eminence Alessandro GA-SC64 for a Brown Princeton 12 upgrade. I wouldn't go Celestion Blue with that amp unless you play with dirt and distortion 90% of the time, because the clean tone will suffer a bit.

@@northfortyrecords Thanks for the feedback man! Do you have any experience/opinions between the 10" and 12" GA-SC64? Cheers!

@@CargoShorts7 I have both the 12 and 10 inch versions of the GA-SC64. Both are really great. The 10 will give you a bit more of a scooped tone (less mids) and the 12 will give you more mids (which I really like for electric guitar). I actually have mine mounted in a 12 +10 cabinet! Best of both worlds.

@@northfortyrecords Now that's a great idea! I thought about putting my Princeton chassis in a head cab and doing something like that. Do you feel like hte 10" GA-SC64 is more volume friendly and allows you to reach an amp's sweet spot sooner?

@@northfortyrecords i have to somewhat disagree. I have both. As per usual, most 12" guitar speakers, like the GA , have an extended frequency range largely due to the bigger cone, compared to the 10". Therefor the GA10 has a more even frequency response w less lows and highs than the 12". Its interesting that the video comparison between the GA and the Celestion blue shows the same difference as one i did, comparing the 10"GA to the old blue frame alnico. A tad more mids and less sizzle on top.i also have to say the 12" GA is a bit more hit and miss w different amps. The 10" is just about perfect in every amp ive tried..

Eminence sounds a lot more articulate than that jensen. I am surprised however at how well the eminence stood up to the celestion blue - especially considering it's a $100 speaker against a $250 speaker.

American made, hands down incredible speakers and quality. I'd take Eminence over the Celestion any day. Considering the price. I used to be hardcore Celestion, but Eminence make some damn great speakers man, and are at the perfect price point. Don't like your amp? Don't like your pickups? Just change your speaker. Quickest, easiest and most dynamic mod you can do. Thanks for the vid!

I bought a trashed organ for $20 to grab that c12ps. Can I use it with 30/15 watt amps cranked without blowing it. Or should I save it for 12/5 watt amps? Sounds killer thanks!
@northfortyrecords
@northfortyrecords 4 жыл бұрын
Nice score on the C12PS. I've always considered these as 25 watt speakers, so a 30 watt amp would be sort of pushing it, I'd say. You don't want to blow a vintage speaker. A Princeton (16 watts) or Deluxe Reverb (22 watts) is perfect power handling as long as your not pushing the front end of the amp with loudy boost pedals.

Really? You made a speakers comparison with a load instead of using mics? Come on, get serious!
@northfortyrecords
@northfortyrecords 8 ай бұрын
I'm assuming you meant phone instead of load. Yes. I want to hear what the speakers sound like in the room. Anyone can tweak/EQ quality mics/pres to sound wonderful in a studio setting. This is how they actually sound without studio fluff. Even when using quality mics, there are a million variances to account for, distances, angles, mics are their own filter, if we're being clinical. This isn't clinical. It's a real speaker in a real room. Look elsewhere for studio sheen tones.
@italoop7850

@@northfortyrecords Ok. My bad. I thought you were using a load on power amp thru the Fryette to go direct. But still... why using a phone vs. a regular standard mic like an SM57 without tweaking it, simply straight into a preamp and then to A/D DAW? A phone mic is really bad and not certainly a reference paradigm for human hear. Or a distant mic in the room, still not tweaked but kept flat? Did you ask yourself how much of those speakers you are really hearing VS. how much of the phone mic?
