This is such a good video. I really miss my rats. My last group were all a similar age and passed away a couple of years ago, over a few months. My last one was alone for three weeks but she was very elderly so I popped her in a little soft pouch and wore it around the house so she wasn't alone. She'd sit there and nibble treats and look around. I didn't want to rehome her into another group to give her company as I knew she didn't have long left (she surprised me by living for a further three weeks tbh) and didn't want to stress her ❤

Just wanted to say thank you for making these videos!!! I started watching right before I brought home a pair of females, and I still watch (with them) to make sure I don't miss any important or new information. They were a bonded pair at school, and ended up becoming separated for no reason. I was able to adopt them and re-introduce them (went beautifully well), and now they are living with me TOGETHER!!! When they were separated, their health really started to go downhill and I was worried sick about them. It's only been about 3 days but they are acting so much more lively and their eyes have gotten brighter, their coats have gotten smoother/softer... They're still shy about coming out of their cage, but they have healthy appetites, they drink their water, and they've been trying out all the fun new toys in their new home!!! It has been so beautiful to watch their health improve. I thought it would take MONTHS for them to be as bright and active as they are, but they've completely turned themselves around in 3 days!!! TL;DR, Thank you for your videos! Me and my newly-adopted pair of female fancy rats greatly appreciate them!!!

Great video! One thing I have heard often regarding double Rex/hairless rats is that they are super hard to care for and require a lot of extra work, that they get a lot of skin infections and boils and abscesses, scratches and injuries, and die very young. I have not found this to be the case, though my experience is limited to my 2+ year old female “hairless” who has never had skin problems, never needed to be bathed, doesn’t get sick any more often than the furry rats and barely ever has even a scratch on her - she’s actually gorgeous, and I wish my skin was as clear and blemish-free as hers - and she’s still going strong! I live in a very dry climate so I have a humidifier to help keep the rats’ areas more comfortable which probably helps her skin (I actually got them to help with breathing difficulties in all the rats due to the dry air, and seems to cut down on respiratory discomfort) - and every so often I give her a small piece of bread soaked in a bit of olive oil or spread with coconut oil, and when she grooms it keeps her moisturized, but otherwise she’s lived pretty much the same life as her furred mischief mates. Maybe I was just lucky with her, but since adopting her I would never hesitate to adopt another “Nakie.” They really are not more difficult to care for than any other rat - I think any rat can health problems, be it a furry or a “nakie,” and every rat needs us to be attentive to possible illness or injury. Of course this is only my experience... Maybe some of your other subscribers will have some very different things to say about their own experiences double rex rats... But I have been very happy and had an easy time with my sweet “Gabby,” the little naked, darling ratty!

There's a fantastic video from Isamu Rat Care on why rats need to live in groups. Gemma explains how rats groom each other in places that a single rat can't reach, like between their shoulder blades, and also the sleep patterns of a group versus a single rat. She goes into a lot of detail about it , but to simply sum it up, a rat will not sleep properly if it's alone, leading to stress and stress-related health problems. Plus, all the things you mention in this video. Anyone who watches a group of rats will see how they interact with each other and how important it is.

When our rat died I had never seen my brother so sad, it was really an exceptional rat and his best friend. Rats are wonderfully smart animals and don’t get enough credit.

The thought of having a lone rat will make them like you more comes from raising exotic pets like birds where they will indeed seem to like you more if you house and raise them without others of their species. And as you said it's seems they like you a lot because you're the ONLY social interaction they recieve

I adore rats, they're so intelligent and affectionate. It really is awful that people view them in such a negative light. Rat traps and poison/bait make my blood boil.

1:21 fancy rats actually can’t carry the plague, the kind of rat they descended from the Norwegian rat helped end the plague, the black rats were the one (involuntary) spreading the plague

This is an amazing video, rats are very good pets that will eat most snacks you give them, very cute and simple creatures. And as we see in this video they like their cute enclosures and btw the ladder is adorable it's the sides with colored steps 😍

i have six rats, two I just got today. Two are 8 months, 3 are 2 months and one is 1 month. (i have the older ones in a separate cage with each other) It makes me absolutely disgusted and sad that people think these things, also I have a question, i'm thinking about getting another friend for my older rats, do you have any experience with getting older rats? if so how can i get some? Usually breeders only sell young ones so it would mean a lot to me!

Truth: No one owns a rat! The rat owns you! My two keep me busy wanting to play! I have a great cage but I leave the door open so they can run & play. A cage isn't really good for rats!

@@kaleleaff oh thank you but I don't think I'd risk having rats again, I felt so bad when I had to rehome mine after a year of having them, my allergies developed suddenly and I tried for so long to keep them but in the end I just couldn't breathe. I've heard a lot of weird, mean and just plain stupid things about rats but it's almost always from people who have never met or owned rats, people who have had pet rats or even just played with a friend's usually think they're the cutest, sweetest, most brilliant little creatures on the planet! Of the misconceptions I've heard the most common include "They're filthy", "They're stupid", "They're really inexpensive to keep" and "They're all wild rats even if they live in a cage" none of which is true. I don't think I can pinpoint the single worst rat myth I've heard but some of the more damaging ones include "They don't need their tails/you can dock the tail if you don't like it", " You can keep their cage outside", " They need milk until they're 6 months old" and "Males and females can visit with each other as long as the female isn't in heat". I bet you that last one has resulted in a lot of accidental litters since it's really hard for an inexperienced owner to figure out when a female goes into heat!

I watched a docu on the box , and it concluded that it was not in fact fleas living on rats that spread the plague but body lice ,as you correctly said it was more to do with the slums that people were forced to live in back in the 1600s . It was just that those conditions attracted wild rats ,and were just coincidental
