Yesss the goldfish rating is so real they need so much! I change the water of my 300L with 4 fish every week! 😂

I promise you if you have a good set up for guinea pigs they can be very entertaining 😭 they pop corn when theyre happy and its so rewarding when they warm up to you I feel like people dont get the right care info so their guinea pigs remain skittish so they miss out on the great things about owning them (honestly i would only say the down side is the hay gets everywhere). I respect your opinon though even if im sad you dont find them cute 😢.

They are great little animals without a doubt but I understand that if someone is wanting a more outgoing, extroverted pet then they aren't a great match. Earning a piggy's trust feels so special 🥹
@Emiology
@Emiology Күн бұрын
@@myjennaration4945 i'm used to shy / rescue / prey species that aren't very outgoing so I don't think its that, I think a lot of the shy animals I have I still find them entertaining just to watch, maybe its because guinea pigs are very much a one level pet that can't climb around and interact with the enclosures like I'm used to from mice, chinchilas etc that I just don't find them as interesting

Harvest mice are the best for me closely followed by the chinchillas…they look like giant fluffy mice that bounce and hop. Adorable.

I've only had a couple dogs and several cats in my life - the most exotic animals being in my family's household were some goldfish and a few small tropical fish. It's good to see your perspective on different animals, as I've been preparing for owning mice when I eventually refurbish my room and you've been incredibly informative in helping with that process. I loved working with them in college, and especially with the ferrets that were there! Even if it's a shame I can't own them, right now.

African Soft Furs are not widely known about and common pets but are great accompaniments to fancy mice (and female ASFs can live with a solo male fancy, or with other females). I have 5 ASFs currently living with my female fancy.

i agree with most of your ratings (from the animals i've also owned), but i would rate platys higher on interaction and entertainment because of how excited they get when i come close to the tank and how funny they are to watch scavenge and play :)

I've had rats for about 10 years, maybe 18 total? Each one has their own personality and they are absolutely lovely to have around. They can be expensive since they need a large cage and entertainment and cage decor. And then the vet bills! i've spent maybe 3k on a single rat in the last 1-1.5 years just for lump removals, meds and that one time she blew her cornea out! And now she grew MORE lumps! She is lucky she is cute! I wouldn't trade them for anything!

Really interesting to hear your thought process on all this! I wish my cats were only a 3 on the expensive scale 😅🫣 I've got two older boys with a number of health issues, so they are quite pricey. Totally worth every penny though! ♥️

Out of my three species that I have it’s between cats and rabbits! I love my chinchilla. Don’t get me wrong. She is probably one of the sweetest chinchillas I’ve ever met but rabbits have my heart pretty picky with the breeds two so that could be why I don’t know.

I keep a syrian hamster, a cat (ragdoll because I love the breed), goldfish, a few other fish and dogs. My syrian hamster is relatively cheap exept his enclosure, and the same goes for my fish. My cat too is so far somewhat cheap, as vet visits for cats are not usually too bad in cost. I think dogs really do deserve a 1 for expense. One of my dogs is almost 14 years old now, and in his youth he was quite cheap to keep besides the initial equipment and yearly vet check ups. But now he is old, and he has arthritis. I have to take him to the vet every four weeks for a shot of pain killers, and it is expensive. People who get dogs should really keep in mind that they have an old age too, just like humans!

I think it's worth noting as well that the best pet for the right person and pets don't exist just to look cute or entertain their owner. For some people, having a animal that is look but don't touch is better suited to their lifestyle, or the husbandry is interesting and enjoyable like with invertebrates. And commitment, living a long life is a plus for me. I wish my pet rats lived as long as a chinchilla does and needing to keep them in pairs and groups is a plush point for me. Anyway just my thoughts, interesting to hear other peoples. Rats are best pet for me followed by preying mantis

Syrian hamsters are soooo cute and loving, and some even love laying on your lap, and being petted, but there's one big disadvantage - they are SO poorly breed and have HUGE amount of congenital diseases!

While I agree with gerbils being more sociable than hamsters I completely disagree with gerbils being braver, all gerbils I’ve had have been very skittish! Once they’ve been tamed they are quite interactive, but they’re such scaredy-cats and will get spooked by me moving my leg a little lol. I never had that with my hamsters. But also I’ve only had dwarves so maybe Syrians are different

to me it seems obvious that you can take your rat anywhere outside. I used to just carry it in my sleeve or on my shoulder when I went out... ,
@Emiology
@Emiology 2 күн бұрын
Rats shouldn’t go outside in general, for most rats it’s stressful for them, they’re not a fan of bright sunlight and they definitely shouldn’t be anywhere near the ground because of diseases. Carrying them outside for a little won’t hurt
@Jadzinek
@Jadzinek 2 күн бұрын
@Emiology As I said, I carried them usually in my sleeve, or on my shoulder, that would be under my hair, so no bright sunlight, no germy ground, but there used to be a rat-owner meet ups in the city I grew up, in one rat tolerant teahouse. And generally those rats used to go with me around.
@Emiology
@Emiology 2 күн бұрын
Yeah that’s not as bad as them actually being outside. Transporting / carrying them places like rat shows etc is fine. I wouldn’t count that as entertainment though in the same way that taking a dog outside they’re actually able to run and interact with the outside environment
@Jadzinek
@Jadzinek 2 күн бұрын
@@Emiology Well it's true it's not the same as walking dogs, obviously small rodent will be never be like that. But in comparison with any other small animals, you can have them with you much more. Tere are people walking ferrets and I even saw a guy walking with his chameleon, but I imagine quite a few rat people carry them around...
