@@reubenmorris487 It was, ontop of the 30 hours of travel from New Zealand. When the captain makes an announcement when flying over the channel that its going to be rough then it deserves "Very turbulent landing". I wasnt the only one struggling to walk to baggage claim either. Looks can be deceiving.

Yesterday I landed at Gatwick on the A380 as well with Emirates. There were heavy crosswinds and the landing was rough. We never got an announcement for it but I knew it was due to the winds on approach. However, the funniest thing was, after hitting the ground and wine bottles falling down the stairs, we get a message on screen asking to rate how the flight was, and everybody started laughing.

A380's leading edge high lift device configuration is shown here clearly, having droop noses in the inboard section of the wing with no gap between them and the wing, and slats in the middle and outboard sections with a gap. This configuration was chosen to avoid middle section of the wing from stalling before the inboard section, as it would have done if a slat was used for the whole span of the wing.

Dissenting opinion here. I hate the feeling of dropping and rising in turbulence and looking out the window helps me. But at least on the lower deck of the A380, the window seat has a huge gap between it and the actual window, making it so you can't really get a feel for where the horizon is. I felt like I was flying in the middle/aisle when I was actually window. Then we flew over the north sea and hit some kind of rain storm at crusing altitude. We were in, I'd say, light-moderate chop for 15 minutes until the pilot readjusted the altitude. You could DEFINITELY feel it, people were talking about it and I'm pretty sure someone got sick.

Not really… the smaller A320 has a smaller surface area for the wind gusts to act on compared to a larger A380. For the same updraft/downdraft/gust of wind, there is a larger surface area on a bigger aircraft to catch that gust… some of the most intense drops I’ve experienced have been on larger 777/747/A330s.
