This week, the Royal New Zealand Navy launched an Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) which begins a period at sea in Auckland to test its operational capabilities. Named Bellona after the RNZN’s post-war Cruiser, it is 6.8 metres long and utilises solar, wind and wave energy to generate up to 5 knots of propulsion power which will allow the vessel to remain at sea indefinitely conducting a range of maritime taskings.
