The trading market value of carbon emission futures have risen by 240% in 2 years. Follow the money, always follow the money.

Great explanation.👌 Still this may not reduce climate change, those with money can live at the expense of others. It is skewed towards the rich people or corporations.

yes, I agree, this scheme and other like it are full of holes - carbon trading is 'code' for - allowing business as usual without having to reduce pollution at the source.

How will it ever work, carbon credit get more expensive which will put financial stress on the lowest earners which a responsible for the lowest carbon emissions.

Geoff, thanks for the overview. I am curious about the role of forests, how we calculate the carbon sequestered. Reading around it gets a bit vague at the end of the forests life. Wood that is harvested and turned into paper, houses, offcuts. Do we assume that most of the harvested wood is not burnt or rotted that the carbon ends up back in the atmosphere? Thanks again, keep them coming.

+Mark Sargent It is vague at the moment. In the past, Kyoto assumed that all wood cut down was burned immediately. Now countries agree this is a bit rough, and so if wood is used to make stuff we will assume the carbon is released more slowly. But the details aren't worked through yet!

+Gareth Morgan Right. I had this view that we should all be building Lockwood houses. But that is not the case. The whole grow some forests is a bit of a one time deal, as my understanding is once a forest is mature it is pretty neutral co2 wise. You have as much rotting trees releasing carbon as new growing trees soaking it up. I appreciate it helps in the short term. But it looks like we can't afford to cut them down, unless we promise to bury them.

Offset with forest etc. is going to end, because of what you mentioned. It was good to start ETS wirh it, but a risk of green washing is there.

Specialists we’re brought out from the UK to look at setting up a more stringent Vehicle Emission Test. The Government turned around and refused to implement it due to cost.

@@algae_rhythms the biggest contributor to emissions is the shipping and trucking of goods...one container ship producing the emissions of 50 000 000 cars annually. As an export nation we are reliant on shipping....economic suicide..And for what?
