Just pointing to the legacy emitter saved the day, for me. I thought I was stuck with the new particle group system.

Yes, sometimes the new particle system is overkill! Glad they kept the old one.

Hey you can use Pulse mode in new particle system with long pause if you want to control start and stop without keyframes ❤

I can make a video on that it uses a Connector, a Dynamic Slider and some Xpresso for the spring geometry itself. I'll record that this week.
