You're right, Queen Elizabeth (though Princess at the time) was in the Army during the war. She was a truck mechanic and had to drive them at night with no lights (either on the trucks or in the streets. All lights, including house lights, had to be turned off or blacked out). I have enough of a hard time driving at dusk. With lights. She's still a pretty cool 4-wheel drive off-road driver and horse rider. More than I can do at 40+ years younger than her...
