Fun fact about giving someone the finger: During the medieval times when an archer was captured and held prisoner, they'd cut off the archer's middle finger because that's what you draw back a bowstring with. I actually know the Middle Finger one: Appearently, in the countless wars between England and France during the Middle Ages, Longbow Archers were like the Creme de la Creme of Soldiers, because they could kill a Lot of people at minimal risk. Now, to operate a Longbow, you need a Middle Finger (an Index doesn't hurt as well), so whenever one Army captured some enemy soldiers, they amputated their Middle Fingers, to end their bow-stringing career. Every once in a while, some captured soldiers escaped before this procedure could take place, and so to mock their captors, the escapees started waving their middle fingers at the enemy, in a "Look at what ye imbecils couldn't take from me! I shall kill a lot of thine soldiers with these fine limbs!" Ever since, the presentation of ones middle Fingers (or Middle Finger and Index in Great Britain) was interpreted as a symbol of frivolous mockery and dishonouring of ones adversaries.

Not... Quite right? It's, as far as I know, very close though. It's from the archers who managed to avoid getting their fingers chopped off (getting freed/escaping) because the chopping off of index and middle finger makes shooting a bow impossible (can't draw the bow anymore) so it was a 'fuck you, we still gonna kill you fuckers'. I think that finger chopping thing was actually pretty common with captured archers. As time went on, the index finger stopped being part of that gesture... Not quite sure why, maybe someone realised that you just need to chop off the middle finger to stop archers and switched to doing that?

It's why most american TV shows that air worldwide sometimes make considerations for this because they don't want to be off handedly telling their British audiences to f*ck off. You might think it's a symbol of peace in the US, but that is with the palm facing the person in the UK (able to see the folded over fingers) otherwise it's a very offensive gesture XD

The lifeboat drills would’ve caused the launching of lifeboats to be more efficient during the sinking. Many lifeboats were launched half-full, barely filled at all, or even improperly launched. Not to mention the Birkenhead Drill (women and children FIRST) was incorrectly relayed as “women and children ONLY”.
