It's weird when you can see that a pair of A-list costars had a fling but for whatever reason didn't work out and then you're left wondering why or if it even happened at all and you might just be schizophrenic, because my spidey sense tells me that's exactly the chemistry happening between these 2 in this interview. Here's what we actually know.... She'd just broken up with her secret boyfriend that everyone knew about, Andrew Garfield, right before making this movie with Cooper, and Cooper had been "single" for many years leading up to it. So after giving it some thought; my spidey sense further tells me that she opened the intimacy door to him and they banged for X period of time (be it like only once or many times is unclear) and it didn't work out and she was salty about it at the time, which is why he made the rage joke and her creative process was garbled on the rebuttal. Here's my theory about it.... From her perspective, he was higher on the A-list than her at the time and it was a career move to be linked to him. He accepted the opportunity for multiple reasons as follows.... 1. The most obvious... He's a man and she's kinda hot despite having those buggy wide-set down's syndrome eyes and a set of tiny chicklets whose meeting line is so streamlined they look like dentures. 2. When you're A-list, you've gotta stick to other A-listers or supermodels, or go the complete other direction with someone in the biz but behind the camera like a stylist or personal trainer, or just someone completely out of show business but who still makes good money (like Clooney with that lawyer chick who's trying to save the wikileaks guy from extradition and probably making California's minimum wage for every second she even looks at his file) . 3. She's A-list but lower on the A-list than him, which makes her fair game but in a way that will neither boost nor hinder his marketability because he's clearly a hotter man than she is a woman and has made way more money after producing that sniper movie he also starred in that made over 500 million bucks. So he knew it could be a good time that wouldn't get him in trouble, but it couldn't have a future because it would lower him to her level on the A-list if he let it go for longer than fling territory or actually even "confirmed" anything with the media which, ironically, is probably why Stone never confirmed Garfield because he wasn't A-list yet cuz all he'd really done was Spider-man with her which put them on the same level but she had bigger aspirations... like nailing Bradley Cooper. This was, of course, before Birdman was released the same year and she got her first oscar nod for it, then won for Lalaland the following year on her 2nd nod after he'd been nodded 3 times in a row and didn't win. Moving on.... 4. Creating the connection for the movie (cuz, y'know, they fuck and stuff) was important to Bradley because he'd just come off those 3 consecutive oscar nods and wanted his next project to maintain that high level of presentation. He knew she'd just come off that Alejandro G. Iñárritu flick (having no idea she'd be nodded for it or that it'd sweep the top 3 awards - best pic, best dir, best osp) but he knew she was good and getting up there after doing Crazy Stupid Love with Gosling and then the spider-man reboots.... so it was probably a safe bet either way. And therefore, actually banging his costar that he fake-bangs in the movie would help authenticate the fake bang, right? So those are his reasons. But then, after they filmed their bang scene (assuming it has a bang scene cuz like who actually even watched this universally panned trash job?), he just politely abstained from further coitus and she was like "what.... in the actual.... motherfffuu" and he's just like "wait what? I thought we were just doing it for the movie, like to help our characters be more authentic. weren't you???" and she's like "um. no, bradley. because i'm not a fucking sociopath! do you have sex with ALL of your costars or just the ones that being linked to might help your career?!" (^^^^^classic female tactic: the projection accusation^^^^) ....and he responds with a seasoned male re-flip like "I thought you're dating andrew garfield?" and then she's taken off guard and can't respond with anything but "that was never confirmed" and he's like "for 5 years? really, emma? really? like you thought nobody knew? this is hollywood. the paparazzi probably sells photos of our flushed turds to sites on the darkweb"... ...k wait. scratch that last part. i got a bit carried away with the dialogue at 8am on no sleep. continuing from "that was never confirmed".... brad: "for 5 years? really, emma? really?" and she's like "ugh. fine. but no, we broke up before i left L.A" and he's like "..right before you came to do a movie with the stunningly handsome and thrice oscar nominated bradley cooper?" with a grin and she burst-laughs and looks down at the floor while shoving his shoulder away saying "shut up" and then they both laugh... and then the laughing stops and there's 5 seconds of silence while she's still looking down at the floor and he's looking straight ahead and she just calmly says "you're such a fuckboy" in a quiet voice at the floor and gets up while looking away and exits scene and he waits 5 seconds and mumbles "yup. ok" while still staring straight ahead and gets up and meanders in the other direction. end. scene. for months, bradley dwells on it, realizing that emma actually is an amazing woman and grows to like her but realizes the bridge is suuuuper burned with her and they barely make it through the movie, injecting all sorts of subtle tension into the characters that throws off the entire film and ultimately causes the release to fail miserably in front of test audiences and critics. Months later, he knows the film is gonna bomb and feels conflicted about the production and his experience with Stone, which inevitably leads him to hook up with Rinaldo's ex-girlfriend, that russian model he's got the kid with now.... cuz that shit basically started after the movie was made but before it was released. Fast forward to this interview and this is the chemistry between them after making that shitty movie on the back of an ill-fated fling, and just a few months after he started dating the russian broad (which is true), which is all a result of the fake montage i just made up in my head right now. yay. I have a white fluffy blue-eyed Persian cat named Jeffrey who eats her own poo so I rarely have to clean the litter box. It's kind of a paradox though because I don't know where all the new shit she keeps producing from eating her catfood is ending up, unless she's somehow metabolizing the re-eaten poo... *shrugs*
