a lot of rap sucks...*some is good* but I'm sorry I draw the line at saying SOME is good...because there's no comparison with most other music. rap is not that great! It's an art form but it's not real music...actually, it is but it's NOT equal (or as good) as classical music, rock , pop, even country it's just not and I find MOST people who like rap more than any other type of music know nothing about music besides rap !

Lukas Kiddo well it is true, most people I knew that liked rap knew little about non-rap music - just sayin'....

you don't know the right people apparently.. first thing first : rap is not a genre of music. hip-hop is. rapping is an action, it's a way to express yourself and to deliver a lyrical content. people who listen to hip-hop know a looot of things about music for a very simple reason : it's a genre that get his inspiration from other genres. it mixes things together, relies on samples. someone who listens to hip-hop need to listen to a lot of different types of music to get where it gets its inspiration from. they listen to soul music, they listen to R&B because those genres are the closest to hip-hop. but they also listen to blues, so they listen to rock music. and of course pop cause it's inevitable. finally, in recent years, EDM has influenced hip-hop a lot so rappers started appearing on EDM songs. that's a pretty huge range of genres and influences. a lot of current artists (I won't name them, a lot of prejudice surrounds their names) actually motivate their fans to listen to different genres of music. they also collaborate with a lot of artists from different backgrounds, inciting fans to discover them and discover their genres of music. of course, I'm aware not everyone who listen to hip-hop listen to Buddy Holly, or to Nina Simone, or to the Sufjan Stevens, or to Jamie xx you know. but to put everyone in the same category is pretty ignorant I should say. don't think you know everything about people based on the genre of music they listen to and that you don't seem to know a lot about. don't judge something you don't know. honestly you saying "rap" isn't music kinda make me cringe. I totally do see your point and somehow, I understand it, but I feel like you're pretty close-minded about it ... just sayin'. (this comment is not the expression of an angry state of mind, it is just the expression of someone who is really disappointed to see how judgmental and close-minded about the diversity of music people can be. music is supposed to bring together but .. oh well)
@Claronium7808 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry people can like any kind of music they want and ALL genres have fans that ONLY like that one genre but I really think I am right in saying when it comes to rap/hip-hop - it's fans are actually the least open-minded to other types of music. I *really do* think I'm NOT wrong in saying that...I'm not talking about people who like rap/hip-hop ALSO just about *many* who MAINLY like rap/hip-hop...I don't like any violent-sounding music the fact is rap is an angrier more violence-filled genre than any other and I don't think rap brings people together as much as say, 60's peace/love era tunes...am I REALLY wrong in saying that? I think not.
@BastardRocker8 жыл бұрын
hip-hop is an angry and violence-filled genre because it is protest music (ok some of it is actually true crap but anyway). stay entitled to your own opinion if you want to, it's just sad. there's just so much music to enjoy and to appreciate, maybe you'd appreciate hip-hop if you gave it a chance but I guess not.
