It seems so easy when we look at your hand dancing above the painting. You are a great master. Thank you for all you share.

Thank you! Timelapse always makes it look easy to me too. Even though I know it wasn't and I had struggles which you see in the real time versions. If only I could really work like timelapse :-)

Omgosh. Incredible. Truly, a magnificent painting, subject and video. There are no 💯 % no no's in art including the color opinions of others.. Thank you for the explanation on dark colors like the color black. Amen on your thoughts and your opinion. I have a lot of Terry Ludwig and love them and eggplant but agree on your opinion for sure. Thank you. ❤️

Hullo Emma! Wonderful painting and a striking video too! I do hope others follow you over to your Patreon and experience this full length tutorial! I especially like that you use Black! I come from a watercolor start and I never used Black, I still have only used it twice in a painting! I enjoyed your Black and your White testing pastel videos! Truly wonderful! Seeing how you incorporate this elusive color into your paintings is a true joy! Thank You!

That's so interesting that you don't use black. Some of my favourite artists don't use black and sometimes I intend to give it a go. But I do seem to love the satisfaction of adding that darkest value and can't resist seeing it and using it!

@@EmmaColbertArt well my Gran gave me my first watercolor palette and she taught me to mix my darks, using black was a short cut for lazy painters! Oh and NEVER USE White! So I still have much to learn.

So beautiful. I've worked with pastels since I was 13 , I'm now 52. Unfortunately I can never find the time to even sit for 10 mins without someone needing me to do something. I could scream. X

It's hard to paint with lots of distractions! The good thing about pastel is if you can get up and leave it where it is, you can sit back down at it and go. No awkward drying times, no brushes to clean etc. Keep squeezing it in where you can :-)

I completely understand that feeling! I'm an at home caregiver for my husband. With that, the dogs, and the grown-up kids coming in and out; finding time is a work of art in itself! 🎨 Hang in there!

So beautiful! I used to draw as a kid but never really give it a chance, didn't think I was good enough. For the past week I have come across your channel and just a few others that work in pastels, that I enjoy watching. I'm planning on taking the classes you offer on your pateron to really give it a chance. Thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤

So happy to hear that. So many people stopped drawing during childhood and I get the joy of seeing many rediscover it in their 30s, 40s, 50s 60s and even 70s! It's never too late.

Hello Emma, your animal work is amazing as I often tell you, however when you do pieces like this it shows pastel isn't just for landscapes and animals and fruit. It's great to see how it comes together as it helps us understand how to use the medium and how to tackle any image with it. It makes you think. I understand animals are your strength however when you do pieces like this it also shows us how someone can come out of their comfort zone and try anything regardless if it fails. And if it does fail it makes you think about how to tackle it again differently (well you do for me). You are amazing "Mademoiselle Pastelier". 🎨🖍

Thank you so much Nikkia. I'm inspired by all the amazing pastel art I see and I never feel like my landscapes live up to my heroes. But I like the style I work in and am happy to share my approach. The best thing I can ask for is that it shows people exactly what you just said about pastel. How versatile it is!

Amazing! I love your work Emma. I paint every day but I feel like I’m getting worse at it. Is this a normal stage, Emma, or is it just me? Like you I adore pastels. I don’t know why my pictures aren’t working at the moment. If you could find time to comment on this, I’d be so grateful. 💖

I'd say it's normal to feel like this. Like you're not progressing, but I bet you are. I'd recommend looking back at your very first pastel works. I bet you see improvement. Not all progress happens at the same pace though. Maybe a critique would be useful for you to see where else you can work on and push you to the next level.

It's amazing how easy you make it to see! I have a lot of admiration for you, I have been trying to paint with my faber castell... for years, but they do not adhere to any type of paper. The result is grainy, transparent and Dusty not like yours creamy and soft. (In the country where I live there is no pastels paper) 😕
@EmmaColbertArt
@EmmaColbertArt Жыл бұрын
Thank you! It definitely makes a huge difference to work on good paper. The pastels you're using are fine but the softer pastels are more creamy with stronger colours. Here is a link to some of the materials I use and where you can purchase. This company posts worldwide. www.emmacolbertart.com/tutorials/my-favourite-art-materials/

I have one full tutorial on KZbin on UART. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z56xiJ-rj7mFa8k I use UART 400 but since there are other papers I prefer I don't use it very often. Fisher 400 behaves very similarly but I prefer it because it doesn't curl up.
