I have been on many cruises but Easycruises was still the best way to cruise for me especially cruising the Greek islands. The concept of spending the night in port and enjoying the nightlife was great. The fact that their ships were small they could visit the smaller Islands that the big cruise lines never visit. The food they offered on board was really good and many nights I opted to eat onboard. I really wish they would bring back the Easycruise ships again. I cruised on both the sea going ships and had a booking on the river cruise but that was cancelled. My personal choice was the first small ship easycruise1 a great little ship.

They cost ~70-80% of a traditional house but are just as durable (some even being able to have those cheap chalk-based houses smashed against them by a storm and still be liveable) You have probably seen a fair few of these without realising as a facing is often applied to make it look like a wood house (i didnt take this option myself because i like the cement look)

When my Mother - in - law asked him what he intended to paint with that purple paint he said: "You will see" Incidentally; my wife and I were living in a house that was owned by my parents in law which we had rented from them. I was away on Military exercises for four weeks and when I got home, I got the shock of my life. The walls in our Kitchen was purple; the cludgie was purple; the lounge room was purple; EVERYTHING WAS PURPLE. I went over to visit the parents in law after I saw this "Master Piece" I could not believe it that as soon as I walked in the door; EVERYTHING was purple. My poor ma in law just shook her head. I said to the Old Man: "Why did you paint everything purple?" He said: "Ah got ma paint frae free, and I did nae want to waste it. Needless to say; we all had a good laugh about it. I "worked" on Carnival ships for eight years, and one itinerary I did for a year or so was only $50 a day for a seven day cruise, food included. It was that inexpensive because people would have to fly to its home port of Puerto Rico so it still worked out to over $1000 per week per person depending on where you fly from. I LOVED the itinerary; every week it was San Juan(home port), Guadeloupe, Martinique, Curaçao and Aruba. San Juan and Aruba were both into port early morning and out of port at 2am. Of course, it was different for passengers on San Juan day. I say worked in quotes because my job was only three hours a day most days(with one day a week completely off) and my job was playing whatever music I wanted to, with my band. Not to write a book, but only working a few hours a day gave me tons of time to get to know the ins and outs of what makes Carnival ships and Carnival Corporation tick from the Captains to the deck cleaners, much of the Head Office and every job in between. Also things like environmental practices, criminal activities onboard by passengers and crew, and much, much more. I guess I'll just say always be nice to the crew you meet, because Carnival isn't. Most of the crew(not staff) are treated like and worked like slaves, and not told what they were going to be treated like before they spent theirs and their extended families life savings to take their jobs. Trapped, and forced to smile while being so, or else. Btw, my first week on my first ship I found a giant cooler room filled with chocolate everything! Was I allowed to be there? Of course not! But I think I broke every rule there was on board every ship I was on.
@deportedtocanada86833 жыл бұрын
P.s. You mentioned a 4 degree list. On four occasions the giant ships I was on came(VERY suddenly!) within 3 and 4 degrees of capsizing! Flippin' terrifying! Everything smashes, everyone screams for their lives, and I bet only 5% of the crew did their emergency jobs. I did.

I could see a small niche market for this type of cruise, but I believe most people prefer the more inclusive nature of the popular cruise lines. I personally like knowing that I have paid for most everything up front, so that only incidentals are extra. Food is not an incidental. I do see some merit to the approach though. On most cruises, if you want to eat in port, that means you really paid for the meal twice, because you've already paid for the meal on the ship. That's also why I don't like doing the specialty restaurants if there is a surcharge.

Helsinki-Tallinn-Helsinki 22H cruises cost starts from 5 Euros (or 20 Euros per four person windowless cabin, which you can of course buy for yourself for said 20 Euros ). And if you take part in their loyalty program and travel few times a year and buy some drinks or stuff on the ship, you quite often get special offers of 20 euros for 2 or 4 person window cabin. The basic cabin is nothing special but they are clean and comfortable. Price includes only the cabin, but they sell food on the ship with reasonable prices, up to 27 Euros for limitless buffet (although most alcohol is extra cost). They have always high quality (1st class big money Finnish ones usually) entertainer or two + some minor ones on the ship each trip, and have decent disco. They make their money mostly by selling tax free alcohol which us Finns naturally buy as the alcohol tax is high. And you have 3 hours in Tallinn.

Yikes! That room (note I'm not calling a cabin) looks like a closet that's storing extra mattresses. They'd have to pay me a hefty amount to stay in there.
@morgee10403 жыл бұрын
We have a similar airlines in USA called Spirit and JetBlue, they can be the cheapest but you pay for everything else if you pay the lowest fare. I don't think I will enjoy a cruise if food, shows and comfortable cabin are not included regardless of the price.

Although it didn’t work, it was a very good idea. Especially for young people who don’t want to fork out thousands on a cruise, and also want the nightlife aspect. Would be even better if they had a nightclub on board, then when you come back at 2/3am you can carry on the party!

Wish it was around when I was under 30. I don't care about the cabin, have traveled in Europe using hotels with 6 to a room. It's all about getting to the destination. I'm not a big eater so buying food at ports is fine by me. Plus I'm all the way down in Melbourne, Australia. Been on 7 or 8 cruises but won't be going anytime soon with all the new restricted rules
@valeriepark94443 жыл бұрын
Other than the decor, this sounds amazing! I would much prefer to be able to spend the evening on land, and find different restaurants that are only open after the usual boarding time. That way, after tourists from other cruises have left, the town will be much less crowded, too. I'd easily pay $50/night for the convenience of a "floating hotel" like that.

When these (EasyCruise-river) were 1rst offered I jumped at it but was declined as there were no enfants permitted. This policy was later amended but by the time I was ready to book they had gone the way of the Dodo bird.

Have you taken the Hurtigruten/ Coastal Express in Norway? It is not a cruise but a working ship from Bergen to Kirkenes and back. It has 34 ports of call. Now there is a new company that has started and the name is Havila. They have four brand new ships. The Hurtigruten have been in service since 1893.

honestly the cost per night isnt really important to me because its only one part of the total cost, i had cruises that cost me less then 30€ per night for the stay itself but the cost of flying out to the ship and the extras you pay for cocktails and other stuff here and there usually add up to much more than the room costs a night.

Honestly not that surprised it didn't work out the way they were hoping. That fist ship at $10 a night would bring in at most what maybe $300 a night if fully loaded? Would that really be enough to cover all costs? Especially considering the older ships they're using needing more regular repair and service. You basically have all the costs of a hotel combined with all the costs of an airline all combined into one product. It's one of the reasons cruises are so expensive and yet cruise lines are still regularly going broke.

Most cruises make the bulk of their money on add ons, especially alcohol and gambling. The shops, excursions, spa, and extra dining are major profit centers. The base fare is just to get you on board and keep you happy to be on the ship, the rest is where they make their real money. If passengers don't want to stay on board, the ship won't be profitable.

Personally, If I were to go on a cruise ship, it would have to be a small one, maybe a dozen or so people (+ crew). I couldn't think of a much worse situation as being on one of these massive cruise ships. There are *far* too many negatives which would absolutely blow the positives out of the water.

I found one for $11.50 USD/£8.60 night this last week. Fill in Cruise less than 2 weeks away. It was one of the one filling the empty schedule from a cancelled cruise to Hawaii and back.

I went on two of these - one in the Med, and one in the Greek Islands. They were pretty good - once the bugs were ironed out (that orange was CRAZY - it gave you a bit of a headache after a while), and IF you knew what you were buying in to. The stock footage of a meal line you show is a bit misleading. The "food package" consisted of airline style re-heated meals, anyone who bought it (I didn't) was disappointed. The idea really was to go ashore for the whole day and find nice eateries at the various ports ashore. The bar on board sold snacks, coffee and pastries.

Its a shame the business model didnt work. That sounds like a blast. A floating hotel that takes you to a variety of places to party and explore. I went on a cruise once. It was an awful experience. I was stuck in closed quarters with my family for one week. We docked twice during the entire time for only a few hours each. .... exciting moments included getting too drunk at the bar (the only bar on the ship) and throwing up on the pillow next to my mother ... 😪 ... granted I was in my early 20s. But still I was very bored. Yes, I believe the average age of the clientele was 57. However, this easy cruise thing, this I would do. For those concerned, I drink less now lol. 😅

I understand the listing issue. In the 1980s I went on a cruise it was from Miami to the Bahamas. It was with Celebrity and I believe the name of the ship was Emerald Seas. Coming back to Miami the ship listed all the way back! It was so bad you could hardly stay on the bed, and then it took a long time for them to jerry rigg something so that we could get off the ship. I have not been on another cruise but after watching your videos, i would love to try again! .

I've flown Easyjet a few times - It's cheap, you're only there for a couple of hours - That's fine. I've also stayed in an Easy Hotel - NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, AGAIN! I'd sleep in the street rather than the hell hole that was an Easy Hotel - And that only required me being there a few hours (trying to sleep). The idea of the 'no frills' (eg zero comfort) cruise sounds like the worst thing on earth to me! You couldn't PAY me enough to go on an Easy Cruise!

@@EmmaCruises Maybe I was unlucky - It was the night before a flight from Luton Airport - There were drunks or drug addicts shouting in the street outside well into the early hours, so I barely slept, but the toilet/shower combo and the uncomfortable bed didn't help - To be honest, it had all the comfort, charm and appeal of spending the night in a public disabled toilet, but probably smelt a little worse! :(
