Just wanted to say thank you to you guys adding information that I missed! Like I said, I’m NOT an expert and I DID NOT cover every artist or genre in here. I just wanted to cover some basics for some people who are really just beginning to get into EDM! *Edit - Just wanted to say hello to any new subscribers that found me through this video! This has grown far past my expectations and while I realize this video is not perfect and has room for improvement, I appreciate you guys sticking with me! I’m also happy to film a part 2 covering a bunch of the genres people have been requesting 👍🏼 *edit #2 - Drum n Bass is a separate genre (not a sub genre) of dubstep - the way I edited this made it look like I thought it was a part of dubstep!

I just watched mainly to see what you would say about Dubstep since I'm a big fan of it and yeah I could tell you don't listen to it, because you didn't describe it very well or its subgenres and also missed a few names haha It didn't do the genre justice, plus the only two clips you showed were pretty much riddim (which I don't mind btw and riddim is a subgenre anyways but just thought there would be more variety for example a clip of melodic dubstep because it didn't even get mentioned). But its' okay, you did your best for a genre you aren't into so thanks for trying haha Nice video, we appreciate it

Give you an A for effort but The Trance Examples you gave are just not correct.Out of that list the only 1 that even plays/Produce's Trance currently is Ferry Corsten.Yes I know AvB has his ASOT And from time to time he will play some Trance and have some Trance Dj's on there like GO,ColdBlue.Examples of Trance Artist would be Thrillseekers,Rank 1,Airwave,Kamaya Painters(Tiesto alias with Ferry),Pvd,M.I.K.E, All this are From early 2000's.Of course i wouldnt expect you to know this but just a History lesson if you will.A sub-genre of trance is Uplifting Trance. Now if you want to get in your feels and be happy i highly, highly suggest you listen to this Artist's-Andy Blueman,Simon O'shine,Martin Libsen ,Ahmed Romel,DreamLife,Carl Daylim. To just name a few =). I was born in 1963. growing up in the 70's, i witnessed the "birth" of electronic music, and fell in love with it. To list a few, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre and Synergy. My friends thought i was weird for listening to this stuff, and you couldn't find it on the radio. i had to special order albums (not CD's) from the record store. most came out of Europe, mainly Germany. i would organize dances to expose my friends to this new kind of music. sometimes, it didn't go over too well. there was no internet to share on. we made mix tapes of our favorite artists, and shared them. this is how we got exposed to other artists that we hadn't heard of yet. In the mid 80's to early 90's, they began to label the types of electronic music, and there was only about 8 "styles". Techno, Trance, Jungle, Drum and bass, House, and a new style called "industrial" which i would call hard style now. it is insane to me to see all the different "styles" and sub genres today!! It is defiantly getting murky, and the lines are getting blurred!! but, what ever.. if you can dance to it, its all good!! To see what has become of the unknown music that i fell in love with all those years ago is truly incredible!! My hat is off to Pasquale Rotella for having the vision to see what this could become and to make it happen!! In the 80's, we could not even envision anything like EDC, and technically, it wans't even possible at that time. To quote Pasquale: 'When you're out on that dance floor, lost in the music, there's NOTHING else like it" This is why i rave! Thank all you ravers for not letting this music die! EDM = life!

what i think makes EDM so unique is you'll hear sounds that are familiar in one sub genre used in a completely different sub genre. For example you showing Above and Beyond playing their "Show Me Love" track had bass stabs in the drop you'd find in dubstep music. You also see different styles of a sub genre. Labels like Revealed Recordings release more festival "club weapons" as i like to call them. Back when W&W had "MainStage Records", they release Big Room tracks that kinda took you on a journey more than just making you wanna jump up and down. Armind and inHarmony release some pretty hard trance stuff while Anjuna releases alot more softer and euphorical styles of trance.

The only thing I want to say in regards to DNB (because it's very near to my heart) is that it has been around the US since the early 90s. It really was huge in the rave scene in the 90s and even today especially in the major cities. LA, NY, SF, Miami, Chicago and Dallas have thick thick dnb scenes and most of us have been apart of it for over 20 years. (Ok end rant)---- thanks for the video! This vid popped up while I was watching other videos and I have to say I'm very impressed with the work you put in and the overall challenge of trying to put this in a 17 minute video. I do want to call attention to the fact that you misnamed one of the Fathers of House music. @DJAngel mentioned it in the comments but you called Paul Oakenfold by Paul Oakenfield. I applaud you for taking the time to research names and now I would love for you to research one of Oakenfold's best that he performed and remixed under the name Planet Perfecto named after his record label at the turn of the Millennium called Perfecto Records. Specifically a song called Bullet in the Gun (Saturday Mix) generously supplied to KZbin by the aforementioned DJ Angel. Turn down the lights and listen carefully and I guarantee you can't stop yourself from dancing.

If anything it was the other way around... DnB has essentially been around since the 90's at least. I didn't start hearing anything being called "dubstep" until after 2000.

@@willscott46 Hmm. That's cool... Yeah, it seems like most things in the Dance/EDM community and music originated overseas (from the USA), but I'm just glad that the styles have finally reached us here in the US also, because electronic music is totally awesome, and definitely here to stay, so I always look forward to hearing what styles evolve into the future, even if, (especially if), they are different than what they were before!... EDM/Dance music styles will always *continue* to change and evolve too, so you might as well embrace and *appreciate* it throughout your life, because everyone loves to dance!... Or at least loves a good beat, even if they "can't dance"! Lol!

I think one of the biggest problems when making a video like this is that many artists play around with several genres so it's hard to put them in a box. I think Deadmau5 is more of a techno artist, but I understand the house vibes. It really varies from song/album. My first exposure to EDM was mainly dubstep, but my taste has kind of grown away from that genre. I'd call myself a fan of EDM in general though, as I like a variety from all of the genres you talked about.

Hardstyle is essentially an amalgamation of hard house, hard trance and hard techno also influenced by early hardcore and gabber. The trance influences are most evident in the synths and/or orchestral elements such as strings and piano lines, the techno influences are most evident in the extended intros, outros and driving distorted kicks, and the house influences are most evident in the hooks and what's essentially te chorus (big room house heavily derives from hardstyle, though slowed down to between 125-130 BPM). As far as trance is concerned: Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond and Dash Berlin certainly began as trance producers, but all of them are decidedly more a fusion of big room house and progressive house (I personally use the term "BigProg" to distinguish their big room-influened sound from that of Hardwell/W&W/Martin Garrix) now, though they certainly still have trance influences. Some of the current major trance names include Giuseppe Ottaviani, Paul Van Dyk, Aly & Fila, John Askew and John O'Callaghan.

I personally listen to edm a lot, and i listen to every genre, but mostly to Hardstyle, Trap and House, though i like them all.. By the way, Yellow Claw are the best DJ's in the World for me, because they are always up for a surprise style change, they did everything: Hardstyle, Trap, House, Trance, love them. At first i was a bit surprised when you mentioned dubstep and drum n bass together, as well as hardstyle and hardcore, since they are very different from each other, but when you talked a bit more i got, that you seperated them. I really like your video, it gives a broad overview to edm genres, and i'm happy you mentioned hardstyle, since most people don't even know that it counts as edm, because its so hard. Greetings from Germany :)
