What Joanie did is completely illegal Cain is the biological father of Kyle she is just the grandmother. For Joanie to kidnap Cain son to get back at Zack is a bitch evil move on her part! She just wanted to hurt the Dingle family and she did.

Cain actually has no legal rights to Kyle, Joanie is his legal guardian. I suppose if Joanie dies though, Zak would be next of kin to Kyle, which I assume was one of the reasons for the awful Zak/Joanie affair. The whole Kyle adoption story has been a mess from the start, Amy gave him away and he was adopted , his adopted parents die and Joanie gets custody, and despite having a nice home and a pension from teaching and government benefits she ended up in squalor with no choice but to ask the Dingles for help (as if), her own family and friends seemed to have disappeared. Its pretty irritating how pretty much every adopted/fostered kid in soap seems to end up back with their bio family, whilst the family that raise end up meaning nothing. Soaps seem to think biology and genetics trump legal rights and years of raising a kid.
