Worst thing the family can do is to demand that someone suffers beyond what they can bear to scrap for every second of time however miserable. We never want to be parted from loved ones so it will never be long enough anyway. When you face it, then you can say goodbye and, yes, still grieve, but do so with peace and acceptance.
