Alex Weitz, sax 1:53:53 Someone to Watch Over Me (G. Gershwin; lyr. Ira Gershwin) -ft. P. Grasso, solo guitar Emmet opened his doors to two men with the genius & instinct to make the seemingly impossible, a reality. *Pasquale Grasso is a master of a robust bebop language* -previously distant from the guitar world. And, against the odds, *Spike Wilner has maintained a precious lifeline* for the music we love & the artists who create it. *Both of these cats have built bridges as musicians & jazz advocates* ...and we’re blessed by their labors. In his first appearance with the trio, *Pasquale invokes the bop greats* with otherworldly speed & sensitivity. *Kyle Poole & Russell Hall* devastate the rhythm section, & *Emmet Cohen* overwhelms the set with a series of brilliant solos. Guys, you’re making miracles happen each week & inspire our potential to do the same...💡🎼🌎

Pasquale's puritanian bebop is like oil and the core trio's free spirited style is like water. I wondered how it would work out before I even knew this was happening (knowing it was inevitable), but somehow, like top level professional chefs, yall came out with a stable emulsion

Both guests -- extraordinaire!! As a guitarist I'm especially appreciative of Mr. Grasso's wonderful unusual approach to the instrument, to the harmonies. The guitar was a touch flat which was a touch disconcerting for ears like mine, but the music was just so fine! I must say, this trio, piano, bass, drums consistently makes exceptionally joyful music with it's own really unique spin on the jazz tradition. I am a lucky man.

Cordiali saluti 😊

They're all superb musicians but come on, have we learned nothing about harmony in the past 70 years? I can't even call this straight ahead, just old fashioned. If you like jazz performed in a historic context only then this is fine.
