One of the things I really appreciate about you is how you give everything a fair try, even if you think you won't like it. And even when you don't like it, you often take another bite anyway because you want to be sure and you want to make note of any aspects that you DO like. You're the most diplomatic food critic I've ever seen.

daEaglesTouch I was just about to clear this one too :) But yeah its Kismet and the meaning of "to the best" is the same idea that sometimes coca cola cans do, they have names in the cans. Kismet"s doesnt have names on them but they have "for a friend" ( ystävälle ), "for my love" ( rakkaalle ) and this "to the best" ( parhaalle ). Im not sure if they have others
@vladraptor
@vladraptor 9 жыл бұрын
daEaglesTouch It's part of Fazer's marketing campaign for the Kismet's 40th birthday and the idea was that you can give that bar to someone and it says To The Best hinting that the person who receives it is the best.

No. The so called "red licorice" is not licorice. Liquorice, or licorice, is the root of glycyrrhiza glabra from which a sweet flavor can be extracted. So called "red licorice" contains no ingredient extracted from the root of glycyrrhiza glabra so is NOT licorice.

Missä X is called Missä X because the original type of candy in that family was Ässä Mix, or Ace Mix (it has candy that is shaped like the faces of cards) and Missä X is an anagram of Ässä Mix because instead of being sweet like Ässä Mix, its sour. Kind of like the polar opposite, hence the name Missä X.

Goodness so I finally found a traditional European style sweet shop in Singapore (!!!) and bought a bag of gummy mix. Therein loom the ominous black licorice pastels. Me and my fiance decided to bite half the pastel each to see what happens. We gave each other the same face u made Emmy and both of us burst out laughing. Great Scott was I thankful that I was not adventurous enough to buy a bag of salmiakki as well, which the shop sells. Scandinavian friends u have my salute. 😵😵😵

Xylitol is a sugar, and all sugars are multiple alcohols. That is to say, an -OH group makes an alcohol, and sugars have many. In the case of Xylitol, it has a chain of 6 carbons, and each one of them has an -OH group on it. Regular alcohol that we like to drink is ethanol, 2 carbons, only one -OH.

"Parhaalle", you say? I dare to say that, in my humble opinion, that thing looks like a Kismet bar. They probably just put a word onto the package, so that it could be given as a gift - "parhaalle" means "to the best". And with that pronuncication, "ksylitolipurukumi" is pronounced a bit like "xylitol-y-purr-u-kh-um-y". Thank you. The Finn has left the building.

That was my birthday on bottom of Super Salmiakki "best before" :) You got like super smell, knowing exactly what they are made without tasting it (like Rum in Da Capo). And yes I'm from Finland, so had to watch them all. For Missä X, you got to eat one salmiakki X with 2 coloured letters and that might get those down (that's how I do them).

Happy 1st Birthday to the baby boy! Fun fact, pineapple is Ananas (or a slight variation of it) in almost every other Indo-European language.

"Parhaalle" is actually a Kismet, it's just their campaign for selling it. Parhaalle means "For the best" (friend)

That Parhaalle bar you ate, is really called Kismet and that Parhaalle means to the best and that same kind of thing that Coca-Cola did adding names to the bottles.

That waffely thing is actually called Kismet, but it's some sort of campaign that there is "Parhaalle" instead of Kismet :D (it means, to the/for the best) You can give that bar as a gift to your friend, for example ;D

Just as a quick heads up Emma, the bar you called 'Parhaalle' is actually called Kismet (you can see it in small font on top of the bigger text). That particular bar just had pretty bad graphic design as it's a 40-year-anniversary special. It basically says "Kismet parhaalle" which means "Kismet for the best". And under it is the same thing in Swedish :) "Kismet till den bästa".
