I actually use hb, 3b, 6b,8b Sometimes i use one pencil or 2 and i use 9b too coz for beginners i recommend hb,2b, 4b,6b and 8b but if you dont have some of that graphite pencils just use:2b or hb and 4b or 8b and if you have limit what to buy and you can buy only two or three just buy 3b and 6b and if you're goin' to buy three buy 4b 6b and 8b and if your confuse buying 3b or 4b i recommend 4b because you can just press it lighter to make light pressure and press it firmly to have a nice dark 4b look you can make 3b look out of 4b because like i said u can press it, 3b if you press it on its darker pressure it will be dark or course but it cant get the darker look of the 4b one because 4b is more darker and 4b has the 3b look because of the pressure no offense ❤️ and sorry if u dont understand what im sayin' and if it's wrong grammar😉

Excellent demonstration. I've just begun to draw and chose to tackle eyes first. My shapes are good but I need to practice the values. When you see things come alive for the first time (an old man's eyes with wrinkles and bags), it's very exciting. You have already helped me to improve. :)

In principle I agree with your advice. Have been concenrating on value in my drawings last year. That said, I have been dabbling a bit in silverpoint, that has a narrow value range on the lighter side of the spectrum, not unlike your hb exepmle drawing. Which is actually quite nice I think.

Shading is new to me, but I've learned something new with each sketch. With one drawing I created the perfect cast shadow with 3 different grades of graphite. Tried to shorten the time it took on the next sketch by jumping straight to those same 3 pencils. Butchered the drawing. Lesson learned, always build layers. Each drawing has its own unique vaules. Even experimented with a 2H for an apple. Was able to get a good result from the layering, but couldn't get the full range of vaules. Just going to have to play around with the material at this point. A banana seems pretty light going to play it safe and make a scale of the H grades.

Quick question about sketching . I struggle with drawing accurately even with guidlines and measurements, is there anyway to steady my hands when I draw? Should I be sketching quickly or perhaps slower? And I find shading so intimidating.
@emmykalia
@emmykalia 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you should do some more practices. Train your hand to draw more accurate. Take some copy paper and start by drawings lines, draw them fast and slow. Straight lines, curved lines fill the whole page. Then draw circle and ovals.. bigger ones smaller ones.. then draw squares and other shapes. Practice this as much as you can until you can make controlled movements and draw what you want.
@emmykalia
@emmykalia 4 жыл бұрын
First practice sketching when you are satisfied you can move on to shading. Best way to practice shading is by drawing a sphere. Practice drawing a circle first and then start practicing with shading to make the circle look round: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJPOnJuAeLJml8U
