From my collection of recordings that I made off the air on VHS cassettes, this was Emmylou's first appearance as a headliner on an ACL program. It was aired as the first set of the first program of Season 7. (The second set featured Rodney Crowell; but, I did not record it.) My notes made at the time indicate that I recorded this in July 1983, which must have been from a rerun of the original program.

I met Emmylou at a meet ‘n greet after the first appearance of her with the Nash Ramblers in Sanford FL. I stayed up till almost 3am to get her to autograph my old copy of “Grievous Angel”. Happy Trails!

Hardly strictly bluegrass just finished up with Emmy Lou as closer, as usual. It's hard to make Golden gate Park prettier than it already is, and Emmy Lou manages to make it glow. 18 songs from a span of her entire career. What a professional. We'll keep coming back if she does. Long may she run❤

10 years ago I took my wife and my daughter for her graduation from high school to Ireland - a trip we talked about taking for many years. In the little village of Doolin, in a little shop filled with paintings I heard the old familiar songs of EmmyLou Harris. I talked to the painter and shopkeeper about EmmyLou Harris for a good 15 minutes. Amazing how the love of the music could bring two people together in shared admiration though normally separated by 4,000 miles!

There I was accidentally booked on one of those rock cruises with all of these terrific "Women of Rock." I didn't even realize it was a chartered ship, with venues all around, blocked off from us regular cruisers. One night I was grooving to the band onstage in the lobby, where everyone could go. As I danced on one leg (my broken ankle was in a walking boot) I noticed two women wearing western clothes and hats, dancing right next to me. I looked straight into the eyes of the older, prettier of the two. She looked right back into my eyes and smiled. The song ended and so did the dance. They disappeared. It took me a minute to realize that moment in heaven was with Emmylou Harris.

I am an agnostic/borderline atheist but God, SHE favored you that night. I would pay you money for that smile. When Emmylou came by her ethereal platinum she became like the younger sister of my late wife of 62+ years. Yes, God, SHE was good to me too. 15:53

In 1982, “Austin City Limits” nominated and won their ACM and CMA Awards, and it's still the highest-rated live music show on PBS. Emmylou Harris and the Hot Band were some of the performers on the show that season, along with Rodney Crowell and the Cherry Bombs, Kris Kristofferson, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins with special guest Jethro Burns, Johnny Lee and the Urban Cowboy Band, Charly McClain, Willie Nelson, and many more. Season 7 of Austin City Limits featured the following performers: Emmylou Harris and the Hot Band, Rodney Crowell and the Cherry Bombs, Kris Kristofferson, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins with special guest Jethro Burns, Johnny Lee and the Urban Cowboy Band, Charly McClain, Willie Nelson, Guy Clark, Merle Haggard with Leona Williams and the Strangers, The Bellamy Brothers with Diamondback, John Anderson, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, Ricky Skaggs, Tompall and the Glaser Brothers, George Strait, Don McLean, Terri Gibbs, Roy Clark, The Geezinslaws, Pete Fountain with Johnny Gimble, Jazzmanian Devil, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, and David Olney and the X-Rays.👍

Emmylou Harris has been making my heart skip a beat and do a back flip since I was 14 years old. I had a huge epiphany around that time, I became re-acquainted with country music, and it came about because of Emmylou Harris, and Asleep at the Wheel on Austin City Limits. I heard it on a deeper level than when I was little. Those sentiments remain until today. I am eternally grateful to Emmylou for providing not only great music, but for educating me by playing so much of the old stuff and revitalizing it.

After watching the Ken Burns 'Country Music' documentaries I've become more of an Emmylou fan than ever.. Marty Stuart said she had sparks flying off of her during her performance with Gram Parsons and the Eagles back in '73 at MSU, but looking at this, she throws off sparks every time she gets behind that microphone, especially when she summons the spirit of Wanda Jackson in some of these songs..

Few things in America are greater than Emmylou and this superb band. I caught them in Sydney Australia, went home that night, packed everything up and 2 months later, emigrated to the US 40 years still here and still a huge Emmylou fan. Only question, I thought Rodney Crowell was in this band, didn’t see him

Rodney was in this band probably later when Albert Lee played lead guitar. Look up "Pancho & Lefty" "on Old Grey Whistle Test" with Emmylou, Richard.

@@dennissleigh7865 Rodney left in the early 80’s and Barry Tashian replaced him on guitar and vocals. Barry met Emmylou in 1972 when they worked on Gram Parsons’first Reprise label solo album.

Rodney Crowell was on his own and writing songs when Frank Reckards was her lead guitar. He and Emmylou came back together after he got a little older. They have sang together for more than 40 years. Just not continuously. They grew old together.

Thanks guys. Have remained a huge Rodney Crowell fan all those years as well. One last question, were Emmylou and Rodney ever romantically involved?

@@kingrhs1 i read where Rodney learned pretty soon that any romance with Emmy was off the table. That they were mature and level headed enough to deal with it honestly shows the worth of their work together
