Thanks for spectating me Emongg! A few thoughts: - I'm not sure why I didn't take high ground more, I instinctively know to, but sometimes I just don't. That is something I've been trying to get better at more consistently, but I definitely tunnel vision. - Torb is definitely not a comfort pick for me. An annoying Tracer is something I struggle with and I probably let them get in my head too much. I also don't have an explanation for why I didn't ult on that first point there lol - On Sym I legitimately forgot that I can ult from spawn (also not a comfort pick). No excuses there. - I have a lot of hours on Widow, which is why my aim isn't the worst, but I think I'm just not used to getting punished as much as I should be for swinging wide or standing in the open because I've been in low ELO for so long. More often than not I outduel other Widows in my ELO, but as soon as I start getting pressed I swap, so I don't end up climbing with her. - Another comment I'll make is that I almost exclusively played quick play for most of Overwatch 1. I only started playing Competitive later in OW1 and especially in OW2 so I think I ingrained a lot of habits from more casual playing that I'm still trying to correct. Not that it's an excuse for bad play, but for a long time I never seriously put the effort in to actually be a better player. When I did put in more effort it was usually on tank, as I'm a tank main and have generally enjoyed that role the most. - Another thing I've noticed about myself is I get impatient. A perfect example is that shot on the deflecting genji. In hindsight I don't know WHY I did that, because he was obviously deflecting. I legitimately just think I got impatient and/or panicked. - I've gone back up to Silver since. Hopefully this time I can stay there!

Hello Bob, if you read this. Try to stick to one hero or two. You seem to enjoy Widow, focus on her. Maybe with Torb, if you struggle against flankers. You're playing too many heroes, it's better to stick to a few and to know how to play them well. This is coming from someone who spent a lot of years in bronze. And I got out by one tricking Soldier, and then I did the same on Ashe and then Hanzo. It's the most efficient way to climb up.
@bobrulz
@bobrulz Жыл бұрын
Good advice! I mostly play hitscan - I flip between Ashe, Soldier and Widow depending on situation. But I won't lie I get spooked by a decent flanker like Tracer, Genji or Sombra. I probably panic a bit too much. The Torb was very much not a comfort pick for me, if that wasn't obvious lol. I have started going Sym more, mostly to counter annoying flankers and melting tanks (even if I didn't use her to her full advantage here), but only in those situations. I do enjoy Widow a lot, but in this ELO everyone is very quick to blame the Widow when things go bad - and honestly sometimes I am the problem.

How this person plays currently: "There are people in front of me now, whats the most direct way to kill them" How this person should play: "How do I best contribute to us winning the upcoming fight?.. hmm I almost have my ult, I should probably just farm some body shots and then push the fight into our advantage once it breaks out" But yea this is the epitome of Bronze, and the matchmaker realized you didn't belong in Silver and got you back down where your skill level is matched. You say you feel like you have good game sense, but in reality you have abysmal game sense. Ult tracking and that kinda stuff is only: 1, relevant if the ult tracking actually informs your gameplay changes, and 2, not relevant for your skill rank in the first place. It's like a cook saying they know all the spices in the Indian cuisine, but they can't even begin to apply that knowledge because they don't know how an induction stove works and their non-inductive pot wont heat up. Basics, my dude. Basics. You lack the utmost fundamentals of gamesense, so worrying about ult tracking has no purpose until you understand the 10 steps that come before that. 1. Angles 2. Basic win conditions 3. Rotating positions 4. Basic map advantages 5. Timing your engages 6. Using good sight lines 7. Basic foresight 8. Cooldown and ability management 9. Fundamental mechanics / aim 10. Basic target prediction Work on these in whatever order you prefer, and then spend another 100 hours honing them. THEN stuff like ult tracking may give you an advantage in fights. Right now it's most likely more of a hinderance to you than if you just didn't try to track at all.
@khaledm.1476
@khaledm.1476 Жыл бұрын
Ult tracking helps me as a support main knowing when to save sleep/suzu. It also helps in the rein 1v1s knowing if they have shatter or not. I think it's less useful for someone like a widow, soldier, torb because ok what are you going to do with that information anyway
@Real_MisterSir
@Real_MisterSir Жыл бұрын
@@khaledm.1476 Sure it's useful, but it's not worth being the focus of improvement at this rank. Ult tracking may prevent/stabilize a disadvantageous fight once or twice per match at most at bronze-gold, but basic game sense and fundamentals will give an advantage every single fight. My point was about priority of effort more than anything, and putting an active effort into ult tracking is straight up not the right place to put your focus if you wanna climb out of Bronze. At this rank, ult tracking only makes sense if you have an easy way of preventing the enemy ult, or the enemy has an easy way of preventing yours. If you can block enemy shatter by just putting up your shield, then yes a bit of ult tracking is usedul for that specific scenario. Or if you're Genji and the enemy team has Zen or Lucio, you know they can prevent your ult by one click of a button and that is worth consideration. But in general, ult tracking as a whole is a wasted effort in terms of priority.
@khaledm.1476
@khaledm.1476 Жыл бұрын
@@Real_MisterSir I think ult tracking just comes with experience I am not really stressing my mind to ult track. I can just tell by how much time has passed and how aggressive the dps/tank is being right now. It's my job as ana to be able to sleep the reaper blossom, nanoing a teammate to save them from blade or sleeping the genji all together. It's a pretty useful skill if you actually can prevent their ults. Also it needs 0 improvement once you get the hang of it. I think they should be working on the other things because ult tracking is a pretty easy skill to master and they can focus on the other skills

i only get annoyed by spam, if they say it WHILE im healing them, and if they're right in front of me. like yeah, i have eyes thanks. but i truly encourage people to press i need healing if they're behind their supports (like widows) and you're in active danger or it's been a second since you took some damage because sometimes the fight gets chaotic and i don't notice. i have well trained ears to any sort of pained sound in this game, and i often look to where i know people are playing out of my LOS to make sure they're still okay, and even sometimes i miss it. the voiceline also provides a direction sound cue that's super helpful! it's far better than staying silent or even saying it in team chat. another thing i HATE is when someone spams it when they're completely FINE. i had a mercy one time spam it constantly while i was playing kiri and she didn't take any damage at all. it was so distracting to me (because i take care of my other support first and foremost) that i couldn't even play the game. i finally told them to shut up and their duo called ME the toxic one 😭😭 never wanted to leave a match so bad in my life

Practice your aim with VAXTA and see how many levels you can push. Focus on 2 characters max per role. Watch an unranked to GM video on both characters to copy positioning and rotations on every map. Keep playing to improve. OW2 was both my first FPS and moba so there was a big learning curve. Since lowering my dpi and practicing VAXTA I have improved my abysmal aim alot. Now I just need to keep playing to improve my knowledge. I am currently silver climbing to gold so this is the extent of what I think is best route to improvement

@Real_MisterSir
@Real_MisterSir Жыл бұрын
Widow aim still isn't good, they've just built some very unfortunate flick habits to overcompensate for their lazy aim and tracking. If they just reworked their aim style entirely and focused 50% more energy on crosshair pre-aim, and used flicks for micro adjustments, they could improve drastically (not just on Widow, but all ranged dps)
@joruffin

Most glaring thing to me is firing too soon. When they hit shots it _almost_ kills them. Sure aim and tracking could be increased, but the lack of lethality on the hits they do get could easily be fixed by waiting longer.

Mouse room is a little bit of an issue, not going to lie. But not bad enough to be an excuse. I'm usually better on Soldier than I was on this game. That definitely wasn't my best Soldier gameplay. But obviously if I was consistently better, I would be higher than I am!

I think this player should just play Ashe/Cass until they hit at least gold. In bronze making big damage number and playing closer to your team is gonna work out better than getting the odd pick from way back. In bronze, noq one heals Widow, no one peels and enemies don't respect your sightlines meaning that one of Widow's main uses, area control/denial, doesn't even matter. Widow is so strong for three reasons: Area control, kills, and psychological pressure. In bronze you only have kills because no one respects your sightlines and unless you almost insta-headshot every time, them not respecting your sightlines is not in your favour. Just play Ashe/Soldier/Cass until gold then bring out the Widow again. You can play Widow exactly how you play her in this video in Gold and enemies will absolutely fear your sightlines allowing you to get more value on Widow. If you're deadset on playing Widow then you gotta get more consistent kills or alternatively become a body-shot bandit and make big damage number. Big damage number, although a meme, actually works in bronze/silver.

Oh wow, what happened?? Just a lot of back to back losses? Are you seeing any trends that might have contributed? My personal frustration is that on DPS but I was placed in silver in season 1 of Overwatch and it was a BIZARRE struggle to climb up to even mid-gold. My main issue has been that I can't get healing very easily. The positioning that I would take in plat/diamond games isn't compatible with silver/gold games because healers are always front-lining and if you aren't standing directly in front of them spamming 'I need healing' they won't even notice you're in the game.

The thing is though, I'm not even a bad kirko I don't think as usually, I'll always get the most healing on both teams by 2-3k , I'll save my teammates and stuff but I think I'm still doing something wrong with her because when I play mercy we usually win lol. With tank idk even know because I'm definitely not the best, but I feel like I do my job.

On Widow, he shot at the tank too much imho. He definitely tried to hit non-Widow squishies and got a bodyshot or two in, but he could have focused more on them considering how little consideration they had for his LoS. (Great example being Kiriko at like 2:28. She got body shot, left LoS, and basically got right back into it before being fully healed.) Another note, but I think he could do well with taking some deep breaths when playing Widow! He hit some good shots at range, but as soon as they got close he entirely lost his composure and panicked. Knowing how to breath when that happens can help a lot.

The need healing button is so criminally misused. Theres people like this who refuse to use it despite the supports clearly not noticing. And then theres people like SupNotHealer who takes one shot behind me and spams the button while i fend off the person who shot them and while im actively healing them. I just assume the people spamming the button cross-map have no team awareness, and thats why they always die while neglecting LOS

Seeing those Bronze games makes me less and less inclined to try comp because my aim is negative in comparison to some of the players here... At least Mystery Heroes is fun and no one is toxic there.

As someone who plays torb the turret placements hurt, throwing them in the open isn’t a bad idea but they take so long to build it’s just a waste of an ability, honestly I’ll chuck it right out of spawn on my way back to the battle just in case someone tries to get a cheeky flank, same with symetra, you get the best use out of his turret when you place it somewhere cheeky, somewhere people will need to LOOK AWAY from your team, because say the DPS and tank don’t notice it but the supports do, that means one of the supports is going to need to turn their attention away from the fight to deal with it.

Feel like the dude's a little too hard on himself. In the grand scheme of things, 1000 hours really isn't that much; especially since it appears this person isn't a 1 trick. I'd say about 200 hours is when someone starts to really have a grasp of any hero, maybe even more considering the amount of heroes there are. Not only do you have to learn how to play your preferred heroes, you also have to learn how to interact with the rest of the cast to have a better chance of emerging victorious. On top of that, with some heroes you need to learn how to interact with your team to get the most value out of your hero selection. My advice for the person you spectated would be to select maybe 2 or 3 heroes per role and master them. Work on the others afterwards. During the time it takes to master the smaller pool, you should have a better grip on ult tracking, positioning, etc. Small example: I have over 12,000 hours on Team Fortress 2, it took me approximately 200-400 hours per class to feel confident with 'em. After about 3,000 total hours I was able to switch between all of them and fulfil what was needed. Overwatch has 4 times the amount of selectable characters, so in my eyes, 1000 overall hours is nothing. Keep your chin up, Bob. I believe in you!
