I totally missed the news of Emory passing away. I was in the Army in the 1980's, and played him at lest twice that I remember in various armed forces tournaments. Though I no longer have the score sheets from back then, and don't remember the games because I'm a patzer, I do remember that I got crushed ;) Anyway, thanks for making this video, brought back some old memories.

Emory lived in Montgomery, Alabama for a little while back in the day. He was very entertaining at the chess club while playing blitz or just reviewing games. I loved his pet words and phrases. Exclam!

Great Video Ben! I'm from Detroit and I remember when he used to come to the All The Kings Men Chess Club at the Universal Mall. He was One of The Most Nicest Respectful Gentleman in The Chess World I've Ever Met!

Did you know his son Andrew became a world kickboxing champion, and he attributed a good part his success from having grown up with a chess mentality, playing with his dad very often? He also has quite a fancy car collection. It would be curious to see how he plays chess.

@ktownbball ktownbball I see the guy as pure entertainment. He doesn't believe half the stuff he says. Hes literally one of the biggest celebrity trolls right now. People love to hate him and he feeds on that. Don't take him too serious.

Emory Tate was truly one of a kind. Masterful in attack and vicious on the follow troughs.

This is the video that made me donate. I really wish I could give more than I did. I always love the humor in your videos but it is these stories that mean so much. Best of luck with the chess center! I know it'll be awesome.

Ben, great videos as always. I have an idea of how to improve donations. Most youtubers give token extras to their patrons. Why not hold a 1 hr session of 3 minute chess, allow your patrons to challenge you.

Ben, maybe you could show us some loss, for educational purposes. For example your game with Polgar in Pannov-Botvinnik (played in Holland I think) was super exciting. Just a suggestion :)

can there please be a vault filled with videos of GM Finegold recounting all the Emory Tate quotes ----- maybe involving a plot full of hijinks revolving around old people opening elaborate locks at some time in the future when it won't be too embarrassing ---- perhaps modeled on the Simpsons Hellfish tontine episode?

Questions 1. Why always play Bf8/Bf1? Why even develop the bishop at all?
@Uerdue
@Uerdue 7 жыл бұрын
In order to castle. Artificial castling would allow you to keep the bishop on f8, but this would involve playing f6. And as well all know: Never play f6!

Ben if you don't mind my asking,is it difficult for a chess GM to earn a living as a professional in the US? I mean not only playing in tournaments for prizes,but as a coach too. Thanks for your absorbing and humoristic videos. :)

Thanks for your reply. In Europe ,as you might know,some good players abandoned professional chess to work in companies and so on because it was very hard.Let's hope that things will change now with the internet. You are a star though and I mean it,humble,sweet,humorous,educational,entertaining. It really makes me happy watching all your videos and has helped me improve my play as well. :)
