I suffered with depression for four years before I went to therapy for the first time. Immediately, I started to feel better. I cannot express how much of a relief it is to talk to someone who doesn't know every detail of your life, someone who can't gossip to your friends, etc. It just feels good to get everything off my chest. If you are suffering, please don't turn away from this option. Please try getting to a therapist. And the first one you go to may not be the best one for you. Keep trying others and stay strong ❤️

Loved this vid. It's true, there is a huge stigma with getting help with our mental health but no-one thinks twice about seeing a doctor for just a common cold. A good support system is the only way to get through our stressful lives, it's ok to talk to someone who knows the best strategies for us to overcome the trails we face.

you shouldn't do that to a person. that puts so much pressure on them and how are they able to pick out the real one from the fake ones? love you steph!

A lot of those people that emotionally blackmail people on social media do so for attention. A LOT. I would say about 99% want attention from the person they admire. Which honestly upsets me because those people that don't know where else to turn might turn to you, for example. How are you supposed to know who is truly needing help?? Suicide is way too serious to be used to emotionally blackmail someone.

I would recommend (to _all_ therapists), since a lot of therapy organizations block their phone numbers, that a lot of the people who have made arrangements to be called on winter break but have forgotten this arrangement, that you leave a message on their voicemail saying that you're going to call back in a minute. We _do_ want to talk; we just have forgotten the arrangement and we can't tell it's you. This has happened to me.

I usually write things out as short stories or poems. Helps me through what I'm trying to get through. Sometimes I listen to loud music and say what is bothering me out loud. Some who don't know me hear it and think something is wrong. The ones who do tell them how I am and they eventually get it. I figure if I don't say something for a long time then there may be a problem. I get why the state of California thinks that I'm suicidal. I lived in group homes and foster homes. from 11 to 18 in Washington. For a year I was in a receiving home or state institution. Whatever you prefer. Was only supposed to be a week. I got ticked off about something and said I wasn't eating. Skipped breakfast and lunch. Ate dinner. I guess they marked me down as suicidal. That's what I learned a few years ago when my current doctor told me what was in my medical records growing up. Like being dropped on my head at four and my mom took me to the hospital because I wasn't waking up. I know the place was closed down a year after I left because one of the girls I knew I met in another foster home. She told me what I told others for that year I was there how the staff treated the children. No one listened. She and others would do weird stuff because of the meds like wipe poo onto the walls. She was normal as can be and on stuff that worked. They forced everyone to take the same meds like Thorazine. Make you docile and do a shuffle. I refused. Ended up believing all counselors were pill pushers. You can't do that to people. Can't talk to them for an hour and automatically decided what's best for them. Sometimes hours and days of talking is better. Get to know them and their past. How they do things. Don't assume right off the bat. All pysch meds don't work the same on everybody. You got to figure out what works best and how much dosage is the best. So many problems have similar symptoms so make sure as best you can you have the right one. It looks like I was misdiagnosed years ago and now I'm fixing that. A slow process but it'll be changed. I have a few different mental problems from stuff happening while growing up but suicidal isn't one of them. Always wondered why when I met certain doctors why they asked. I would say does it look like I am? No one ever bothered mentioning why. Not until my new doctor. She actually wants to know my history and why it says what it does. Some of that childhood stuff I still wouldn't know about. I rambled. Just learn about others. Don't jump the gun and assume before you learn about the person. We can work to help each other through our struggles. Our experiences may be different but the similarities in them can and may help someone else with what their experiencing. Some take longer to heal than others. I help others the best that I can. I take all my good and bad experiences and try to use them for good to help others through theirs. Have a great weekend. If I missed something let me know. I have a poem you may like. Lots actually. Past three years I wrote a lot since my wife Samantha passed on. Learned about emotions I never knew that I had. Grew dark for over a year. Started writing poems and short stories and it helped put things into focus. Been told to enter poems into contests. I plan to.

Please don't feel like it's your responsibility to respond to anyone. I mean, abusive people might tell their ex's they will kill themselves if they don't respond or get back with them. 99% of the time it's false, And these people writing that stuff to you are no better. It's natural to be empathetic, but if they are any kind of decent human being they won't put you through that mental anguish of not knowing if they lived or died, or if you could have helped them. I have been suicidal at one point, but I wouldn't make anyone feel bad or guilty because I couldn't deal with "life". Getting validation from a stranger is a poor base if someone wants to become emotionally stable. It's emotional manipulation and it can be very draining. They just want attention. There is plenty of online help that they have access to if they really needed help.

Ever since I watched this video, I've been following Kati's Self Harm workbook. Steph I really think you should do a video on Self harm and suicide amongst the LGBTQ youth. I have first hand on this issue as I'm a struggling LGBT teen myself. I think it would be really powerful and interesting. Just a thought 😊❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
