Gotta say, I know that the team was stacked with talent but so were the other cup teams. Bednar had these guys playing both sides of the ice so well that I'm calling him the best coach in avs history. If it weren't for Patrick Roy I don't think our avs bring the cup home in years past. If somehow Bednar could coach the old avs cup teams I feel like they would have been a 3 or 4 time repeat champ team. Simply because of defensive play.
@Chyeahokay2 жыл бұрын
They way the shut down Tampa’s offense at times was epic..
@brettkenschaft42392 жыл бұрын
I don't know. There was boatloads of talent on those 2 Cup teams, especially '01. I won't bother naming them all, but it wasn't just because of Roy.
@robertsprouse92822 жыл бұрын
@@brettkenschaft4239, look at the pedigree of the players on those 1996 and 2001 teams, and this 2022 AVS team does not come close to matching that. The NHL was a deeper, more experienced league back then, a much deeper, and much more savvy players league. Salary cap and expansion teams without getting enough Eastern Euro Bloc talent to compensate for the thinning of talent depth on each team, and goalies who are just tall guys on their knees sliding around, make for a much thinner quality league. There is more to being good hockey players than speed and athleticism..much more.
@brettkenschaft42392 жыл бұрын
@@robertsprouse9282 You're right! And I changed my mind about naming them. Here's just a taste from '01...Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg, Adam Foote, Adam Deadmarsh, Valerie Kamensky, Patrick Roy, Milan Hejduk, Alex Tanguay, Ray Bourque, Sandis Ozolinsh, Stephan Yelle, Rob Blake, Chris Drury, just to name a few. What an embarrassment of riches!!!!
@robertsprouse92822 жыл бұрын
@@brettkenschaft4239, great team, and I am not an AVS fan..Did you forget a pretty good defenseman named ALEXEI GUSAROV, he was around in '96, as far as 2001..? And, I almost forgot UWE KRUPP the CUP WINNING GOAL IN 1996 IN GM. 4's third overtime at Miami, FLA. I mentioned 1996, too. But, just know this, outside of about 10-15 Canadian skating guys, and a skating handful of RUSSOS, and CZECHS, A COUPLE OF DOZEN SWEDES, AND FINNS, AND ABOUT 7-9 US players, the NHL is weaker and trying to come out of a down-cycle talent period from the past 10-15 years.. Compare those lineups in the 1990's and pre-lost season early 2ks, and you will see what I mean. As far as goalies, compare today's best vets and that era's best, and its no contest.

When a great coach is supported & not micro-managed this is what happens. Having Sakic at the helm, Bednar as head coach & letting him coordinate his coaching staff, no organization has done it better. Edmonton could have had it, they certainly have the talent, but waiting to make coaching changes etc cost them. Perfect examples of how having a great organization results is great success.

Say what you want about the amazing team through and through. But it takes everything to beat the 2 time defending champs that had everything. It may just be that way to win it in this league now, that's 3 in a row with no holes. I don't know whether to call it putting so much on all his players, or letting them do their thing. But to a man this team switched with one another freely in any zone, whatever it took to make the play as fast as possible, were all capable of doing one another's job. That's balls from a head coach one way or the other. No one else lets more than a handful of players do that, no wavering through the times it bit us and led to odd man rushes against, or guys left open in our slot. Everyone bought in. This guy deserves so much credit for how well the avs played and how well they can play. A guy that is clearly adapting and learning instead of sticking to his pre conceived blueprint. A team and a coach willing to look in the mirror to improve even when some outside excuses are there, and the difficulty seems too large. I hope people see what I see, he's not getting enough credit. Not that he wants it anyway.
@therealdibabe2 жыл бұрын
Coach Bednar is emotional here and for good reason. I am a Canadian and die hard Maple Leaf’s fan. I admit to being totally Toronto-centric during the regular season. Once play offs begin, it is fun to see the other teams play. Getting to know the players and all of their different strengths and personalities is entertaining. It was apparent to me that the Colorado Avalanche had a lot more speed than Tampa did as the series progressed. Tampa just seemed tired this year, I don’t know? But, I am glad the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup! The Av’s have a team that is filled with wildly good players. I love seeing how the city of Denver did it right and threw the team one helluva party!! I wish everyone involved with the team nothing but success in their futures. The future is bright for every player on the Colorado Avalanche now. Congratulations to the 2022 Stanley Cup Champions!!!
