You touched a sensitive spot @3:10 onwards. I grew up in an unstable home, with a crack addict step-father who stole a lot from my home, who hit my mom etc. They'd fight almost everyday, and whenever I asked them they'd just pretend it was all in my head and that they were just having a conversation and "discussing" some stuff. Even though I knew deep down what was happening I was always kept in the dark. I'm 30 now and I just can't trust myself nor my own judgement. Whenever someone hurts me and I try to express myself I always think "it's all in your head they didn't mean it" "you're over reacting" and it's all in my head.

I relate, but this was me with my "friends" they would whisper about me but then when I asked they would say their just planning something for me, even though I knew they were doing it to make me uncomfortable. It probably gave them a sense of power. But even now, whispering between people gives me a ptsd like feeling. I don't know if that was emotional manipulation, but it certainly gave me some trauma...

I'm glad you touched base on the topic of gaslighting. I've been having trouble with it since 2019. I got a new job. The money wasn't great my relationship started to fall apart, and I started getting the opposite of emotional support... Gaslighting. Now I've worked on a lot of different ways to remain strong with the it, and it's refreshing to hear I'm not the only one going through it. I've been guilty of trying to fight fire with fire, and I can tell you with complete assurance that doing that won't help. Its a negative way to build self confidence, and will only make you look unprofessional. Don't be quite about it, but seek help with the right people. Life is too short to turn bitter.

I was too naive and experienced this so early and often in my youth. But now I live on my own, rid myself of those old relationships and persevere in trusting myself and supporting my own decisions. You shoudnt fuck w anyone's mind, but you definitely don't fuck w the mind of people you care for. When you do, it's called gaslighting. It's straight up abuse, no way around it. I'm naturally a very intelligent person, and it was noticed early on that I was well beyond my peers, intellectually. Unfortunately, this set the bar very high when it came to my adoptive parents' expectations, and anything that wasn't exceptional was unacceptable. It took its toll on me and I stopped doing homework because it was a prison. The less I did, the more I was told "you'll do nothing but flip hamburgers, Brian, if you don't do your homework!" It wasn't kind guidance; my mom cracked the whip even though I was cracking under the pressure and bullying I endured at school and home. I'm 35, and I've spent the last 15 years flipping burgers, grievously overqualified on an intellectual level for basically any position I'm socially qualified for. I study organic chemistry and such in my free time. Don't let others brainwash you into not reaching your potential, please.

10:24. Strongly disagree. Emotional manipulation is a covert effort to subvert a person's will through an attack on the unguarded rear gate of the mind, carefully avoiding the watch of the critical eye. However, that is quite different than appealing to a person's reason and senses openly and directly. You may have an aim, you may be persuasive, but the goal should be to passthrough the will with its blessing. If you have done this, it's not "manipulation" it's persuasion. One treats a person as an object to be controlled and manipulated like a tool, the other treats a person like a conscious agent with divine rights to personhood and is a cooperative effort.

I agree. Everything is influence. Doesn't matter, if one person or group is saying the same things to you. If ou go trough the same experiences and are told the same things by a different person every time, you'll still start to believe it. And then it's worse: you start to act like it's true, essentially manipulating yourself further. Ex.g. If you start to believe that you can't be loved and have a romantic relationship, you won't be able to. From personal experience of close to 40 years.

I didn't want to and we faught over this just not physical but verbally. next day she told me if you don't get vaxxed i will leave you. I was scared because I loved her so much and I didn't want to lose her. So i got vaxxed. The turning point that caused this relationship to end was that we both agreed to contact her baby daddy for "child support" but the thing was that the baby daddy had no clue that he had a child. the guy lives at tennessee and im from california close to LA. anyways when they connected they we're facetiming non stop. I felt this urge this jealousy because she really said to me that the guy "changed" and he attends more to "church" (my ex is a christian). A day pass by and I went towards her house to pick her up she wasn't even ready she was still talking to that guy. so I got mad and I got out my car and i went straight in to her house. she was super mad at me because I "interrupted them". She went to her room God knows what she told him. And again I felt this jealousy so i demanded her to let me see the messages between her and him. I grabbed the phone she tried to get it back. she started screaming and her father backed me off. At that point i was like im letting you go. She cried and told me to come back. I blocked her. She cheated on me.

@@cavemann_ It's actually pretty intresting the fact that it is a common occurance in your expirience... In my expirience the "you're and your" mistake is made, and this should have thing might be the first time i've seen it on the internet, but knowing that our minds filter out so much of the information i could've seen it before.

i'm not a manpiulator, but sometimes i feel like others just like to show up to make things about themselves so they can act like they're being abused. my current neighbor would know, or not. who knows? i wouldn't be shocked if it was because someone online communicated something to them. unless they're all-knowing. 12:30pm

I wish this video had come out a few months ago. I’m sure my ex was manipulating me but I loved her so much I didn’t even consider it. Nor did I consider she was cheating on me.

I've had a bad relationship with my narcissistic mother(who has emotional and drug/alchohol issues), and this is exactly what she'd do("I gave birth to you", ect.) and still does. Of course she would also say "If I could go back and change everything, I would." My brothers and I went to live with my aunt(moms sister) and uncle when I was 6. I haven't spoken to her in over 5 months due to her behavior and it took me awhile to realize I was being used emotionally for her own ends. For example, she was in an accident and I gave her my old car and my grandfather got me another one. That was more his pressing than mom's, but still. Unfortunately, I see the same things occurring with my oldest brother(the addiction/unresolved mental issues) and am worried that he may end up like our mother, or worse. My great uncle died earlier this week, and the funeral is tomorrow, so it'll be interesting to see her and how she'll be, as my grandfather said she'll be there. Its sucks more bc tommorow is also my grandfather's 87th birthday. A funeral, a Birthday and seeing someone I'd rather not. Tomorrow's gonna be fun.

I've gotten the shorter end of that stick for 22 years and was so afraid to actually demand equality and fairness because if i did bring up the fact that they were not respecting and loving me they would give me the silent treatment and bully me for weeks, there were times that it had gotten really fucking bad and i hate how people that you were supposed to trust and care for can hurt you so much, it is disgusting.

This is a big issue. Thing is, if someone can manipulate you to see or feel a certain way about something, they have the control. Perception determines behavior. You want as much control over your perception as possible, for obvious reasons.

the reason why we have this is because children aren't taught physiological & biological information of humans while the society of adults aren't also being revised at a quick pace to be responsible for their shortcomings where the children knows their older parents, siblings, acquaintances aren't "grown-up" humans in a meaningful way,all the time, about all the subjects when these so-called adults expect younger one to trust & believe the lessons & thoughts & acts these individuals shown pr present to kids. things are messy if it doesn't get fixed at it's base.

Quite often I find myself Manipulating peoples around me and I hate myself for it. I really wanna change but can't help but feel attracted to it It is so lucrative and it feels just sooooo good that I don't want to move away from it. I feel like I am addicted to it and it hurts so bad sometimes I really don't know what to do. :(

Wow need it right now, just left my now ex girlfriend. She has gaslight me so much, I was always walking on eggshell, always the one doing the wrong. She told me that people were judging me, that i was not good enough, that i was not attractive and after five month of relationship she laughed in the end saying i was so easy to manipulate. Next thing I know she had segs with another guy, even tho she was not ready with me ( she told me ). In her own word i should have force her in doing so like he did. That women destroy my ego and she's in my field of education, in my class in fact, tks god it is finally over.

Women manipulative AF and society looks the other way even tries to blame the BF somehow, BF is manipulative and all hell breaks loose. Guess being a baby machine grants you special privileges unparalleled as opposed to the now "redundant" gender that men seem to becoming (sperm banks) Good on you my man, getting out of that relationship. I definitely would too, I'm extremely anxious to get a relationship but I'm firecly paranoid of being treated like this, I'd lose it with them then dump them while hurting their feelings to boot. I'm mentally disabled so any GF should treat my emotions as important as theirs. My brother was manipulated into setting fire to something by a toxic girl and he spent 10 years in an institution because he was declared incapable. Hes lost his teeth, hes fat and doesnt speak very well, his life has been wasted. I have no mercy for these despicable girls.

I know the moments I said things that did not feel right, they were not sincere, they were not well thought out, they were not how I wanted to be treated myself. I will create my own hell for myself if I do not take good care in how I treat others. I've been called a liar, I've been told I am the villain, I will try to be better for my own sake and above all I will do my best to trust and belive the autonomy of others who do not decide who I am for me.

I've been gaslit for so long that I will always back down first even when I was sure I did good and had the right answer the first time. It's a sharp pang of shame *especially* when I find out I was right later on. It's sad to be one dealing with trauma from abuse and existing around others who have no idea what I'm still going through. I had the right answer in physics class today and the teacher corrected me before viewing the answer themselves and admitting that I was right but before that moment I apologized already, sorry to waste the time, quick to assume I was wrong all along...
