Just a bit sideways from the topic. When I went to school in the 1950s and 60s in the UK (when we were still taught the grammar rules invented by some chap in the 1930s or 40s.) we were not allowed to use 'get' 'got' or 'getting' in essays as there is always a more accurate word and get etc are very vague when over used. A younger teacher friend used to recite this to his classes. "I got woken by the alarm. I got out of bed. I got washed and dressed. I got downstairs. I got breakfast. I got my school bag. I got out of the house. I got the bus. I got to school." Then asked ok what does 'got' mean? He flumoxed his students until they started thinking.
