I have to put my two Spence into this. The Americans with disabilities act has made a huge huge mistake making it legal to let a person claim any kind of animal a emotional support animal. This is a prime example. Myself being visually impaired and also a spinal cord injury using a power chair. I think it should only be allowed to have a legitimate trained dog assist a disabled individual. I also believe that if the trained dog is not under good behavior the team should be asked to leave. None of this dogs in carts at stores dogs barking and lunging at people. Now that I said how I feel about the subject the tater was well mannered and such but he should of not even tried. Great video John. Sorry if I made people mad in advance but people are hurting those of us that have a legit amity dog that does tasks that help our independence.

Yes, these people with an ESA think their animal has all the same rights as a “service animal”, but that is not the case. Federal law limits service animals to dogs and miniature horses (don’t ask my why). Anything else could be a service animal under a state or local laws, but an alligator is definitely not a service animal. When I think of the term service animal, I see an animal who performs actions for a person who is unable to perform that action; examples would be a seeing eye dig for a visually impaired person, and a dog trained to detect metabolic issues (such as low blood sugar) before the person realizes that issue is about to suffer an episode.

@@thunderbirds3-tv208 - yes and no. When it comes to gaining entry to public places, and traveling on public transportation (including airlines), an ESA can be treated like a pet. When it comes to housing (think rentals), an ESA has to be treated as not being a pet, similar to how a service animal is supposed to be treated everywhere. BTW - in the eyes of the law, a service animal is not considered to be a pet.

10:07 - calling the emotional support animal a service animal is mistaken. In the eyes of the law, there are differences. A service animal performs some task for the person that the person is unable to perform (or has difficulty performing), whereas an ESA is an animal that makes the person “feel good”. Service animals have the right to go into all public places / facilities, an ESA does not have that same right. So security was correct in not allowing an ESA to enter the stadium.
