Leave the puppies where she has them. You keep messing with them and she will move them out of the barn. She is a great Mama. She'll be fine. Feed her puppy food. It will give her the extra vitamins and minerals she needs.

Really cute and healthy looking puppies! I was very touched with how the black dog was trying to get those goats away from her while she was in labor, very smart dog he even put himself between those black goats and the box. Please don’t move the puppies anymore but try to block them in that area she could hurt the puppies trying to move them. She won’t stay in the box because she does not feel safe in the box she feels trapped in there with the goats and other dogs she’s very upset. I hope you keep the other animals out of her space. I think it’s important to handle the pups check them daily to make sure one is not losing weight the smaller ones sometimes can’t fight the bigger ones for meals if you see this you might have to make sure the runt gets to nurse. She needs to extra meals now she is nursing it’s taking a lot out of her body she should get three small meals a day for now being a large breed she could get bloat so feeding at least 2 x a day. Organ meat is good for her as an add on to her meals we used to cook chicken livers, hearts and add to kibble and the eggs are good. Remember she is just like a human with a new baby you want quiet peaceful environment.

Hi, I was a breeder of Chinese Shar Pei for many years, so thought I'd offer you a little new pup advice. The puppies have to stay above 90°, or you will run the risk of losing them. If you really want her in the whelping box, move it closer to the place shes laying, and take the straw shes been laying in, and put it in the box... the box doesnt look like it has enough. If you want her to stay in the box, put a gate over the opening, that latches... I would also put blankets over the box to make it warmer... if you're going to leave her where she is, I'd hang a blanket over the fence, and tack it up on the other wall, like a roof, to keep in the warmth. Put a couple hay bales to cover the end behind her. The other thing is, she will not be hungry enough to leave her babies for a couple days... she just ate 10 placentas... natures way of giving the Mom nurishment, so they dont have to leave the den for a couple days... if you want to feed her, give her warm food, with warm water in it, and take it over to her, so she can eat it without getting up. Since she has 10 pups, and only 8 teets, you are going to have to watch them. If you see any looking smaller, or weaker, you may have to take the bigger pups out for an hour or two, and let the little ones nurse, or just them in 2 groups regularly... it will take her some time in between feedings to build up more milk, so, leave a space of abt at least hour or 2 before you put the 2nd group on her... The easiest way to do that, is tie a little piec of colored yarn on each pup, either 2 colors for the groups, or a diff color for each pup. If she doesnt have enough milk, you will have to supplement with bottles... looks like you have some nice pups, there... good luck to you all!

But the breed of dog you raised is not the same breed that they have these dogs live outside their livestock guardian dogs, and on a different site this families, livestock guardian dog, has puppies, and the puppies are outside because the mama won’t leave them in as long as the puppies are chubby, which they look like they are I think everything will be fine and I know about breeding animals too, because I bread English mastiffs

Congratulations on Cora’s 10 puppies❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ She certainly had me fool because I didn’t think she’d have more than seven and for the longest time I didn’t think she’d have even four because she just didn’t look very pregnant so I guess that long body of hers hit her babies quite well😀❤️ I couldn’t be happier for you guys, and I am really happy that even though Cora gave you a challenge, moving the puppies back-and-forth from one place to another, not wanting the babies in the welding box, she has done a good job as a mother for you and the babies❣️❤️😊❣️ I know you’re very proud of her and I know you both are short hunted SLEEP, but I think you did remarkable through the night in supporting Cora. I couldn’t be happier for you and we will keep the puppies in your prayers. I have them at most assurance that you do everything you can for the babies and mommy to keep them warm and safe in this cold weather. God bless you all.🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❣️❤️

The very best thing to start labour's back up with any mammal is to have the first pup start to nurse as nursing sets of the moms pictocin levels to rise almost imediately and so long as each other pup starts to nurse the pictocin level continues to rise. Because she was having a bit of stress not being quite sure of which spot made her feel safe enough it means her increase of stress hormones had started to slow down her labor. Which is why it took over 2 hours as you mentioned to see active labor again & quickly after your great decision to make certain the first pup had latched on as strongly as possible that single act alone did the only thing the vet could have done which would have been to ensure the mom was as comfortable as possible and would have then given her an injection of pictocin after only an hour of stalled contractions or sooner if the vet had a portable ultrasound to monitor if any of the pups showed they were being stressed and or the next puppy or two looked to be big enough a size or breech even which can then lead to a pup becoming lodged the very beginning of the birth Channel. Which could be a strong indication the next baby or 2 may have needed help from the vet to manually help get the next pup or two to finish making it out . You deciding to make both spots a warm dry place she could choose from and then ensuring that as her labor had an increase in renewed contractions so that you then made certain that each new puppy was then nursing as soon as possible was a far better way for mom to deliver the next puppies faster and faster with shorter and shorter length of time between each puppy being born. Natures own way of getting puppies born is always the best way to ensure the most ideal hormones involved are available for the mom to more quickly be able to avoid a vet performing a c section. And as each pup is born the mom gets to eat most of the high in nutrient sack that cones out either still surrounding each pup or comes out very soon afterwards. Breaking that sack not only allows each puppy to be free to take its first breath it becomes the very best way for the mom to increase her strength as high as possible to increase her energy. Thank goodness with her having a much bigger litter of having 10 puppies than the 2-4 pups most first time moms tend to have on average. So because most dogs in active labor rarely are inclined to eat or drink, as just one more reason the birth sack from each pup born becomes rather vital for a mom the more puppies she will eventually go through giving birth. helping not only as an energy source but also to provide the incredible increase of colostrum and shortly after a day sometimes 2 full days colostrum changes into a rich milk. The colostrum passes on the essential natural antibodies the mom has and ensures each baby starts to fast track to create then build up their own immune system.😊 As risky as it may appear for wet new born pups to be out in such cold conditions. Its actualy in such dogs DNA to respond with much increased health because such dogs have a normal increase of antibodies more fat content in the moms milk and other things that ensures the best chance for puppies to stay healthy. It's always so impressive to see how the breeds of sheep and livestock dogs like yours, have always done so much better themselves that often are not only born outside often grow up alongside the animal hearts they protect they continue to to grow up alongside their charges and have their very own litters even without barns etc its awe inspiring seeing how dogs like our Miramar live their whole lives up high in the Alps and its often ice and deep snow covered slopes. So your having a barn with soft clean insulating straw for a dry clean bed with a heat lamp overhead is the height of care and being well off having a very safe and warm whelping box like that must be amazing for the mom to avoid having to worry what is happening to the puppies when she eventually will crave a drink of water or stop to get some well needed food break to maintain the best level of nutrients possible for the milk the babies will need and for the mom herself to recover. Its such a blessing to see these beloved members of your farm give birth and how fellow dogs become an essential and loving support to help raise this whole pack the puppies have been literally born into.❤😊

Oh my goodness. Those babies are absolutely beautiful. Yes there's usually a runt in every litter. Especially a larger litter. My experience is the runt is the very best one out of the litter. Almost every dog that I have ever owned was a runt. Well that is my opinion. But I am betting that others will agree. Those 2 gray & blacks are out of this world beautiful. I hope once our family gets on our land next year. We get lucky enough to get a puppy like one of those. I couldn't believe how good Leeske was. I don't think I have ever seen a daddy dog be so loving to his mate & babies. Cora is an excellent mother. She's so careful with them. Congrats on your new litter!! 🥰

I see a lot of foals born but my dog having 16 pups was the most anxious I've ever felt...what a LONG affair it was. We then had to bottle feed as there were so many. That heat lamp would be soothing her pain a bit... What temperature is it ...looks freezing (oh you said 15 degrees...) You can get heat mats which might be safer than heat lamps. I'm loving the pups...and love the silver with the socks ! Don't forget to give her calcium....she will need it with 9 pups... There is always a lighter one like there is a heavier one....usually a runt is a LOT smaller. You have to watch newborn pups because they can get fading puppy syndrome where they just start to fade away and not feed...and everntually die. Watch for the puppy which isn't eating as well and make sure that puppy is always on the teat.. With our big litter we would weigh them daily in a kitchen scales, just to see they were gaining weight (so eating well).

Most times they don't suckle till all are born. That way she won't harm any trying to get a comfortable position. She needs to clean them too before they eat. Make sure everyone gets enough milk. Mom can have more pups than teets but they do take turns. Just keep an eye on them. I raised beagles 13 years

You can also take those egg shells dry them out and then make a powder out of them and sprinkle it on her food

Hello Kevin and Rachel I love how the two goats stay with her. Congratulations on the additions to HHF! They are beautiful. My experience with momma dogs has been that they decide where to keep them. If the babies are moved too often, she’ll hide them somewhere. Best to let her keep her spot where she can watch over her goats, too. Blessings and Love ❤ ~Linda

We had heather Ridge Kennels years ago and larger dogs were given dolmite so they would not get hip dysplaysia as they got older. We gave it to Irish wolfhounds and Shepherds.Collies also benefited. Only necessary for the first 3 years. We added 2 spoons to their kibbles and added a little hot water and coconut oilonce a day.Smaller dogs did not need it. .

I found runts to be a rare during my 30 yrs of breeding. No runts is a sign mom had good nutrition and plenty of room in her womb. Block off that opening so there isn't a draft on those pups. Don't mess with them because that may cause a new mom to walk away. In the colder temps keep watch the pups are staying warm and raise the ambient temp with a heat lamp but remember, puppies aren't like chicks. They can't move away if too warm so simply keep the ambient temp raised as needed with blankets, boards or what ever you have to help the lamp keep some heat in there but don't put the lamp directly on them. Mom needs a lot more calories and a lot more water and have it so it cannot be spilled and she has access to both at all times. When those pups reach 4 weeks you can start introducing soft food. Don't wean before 8 weeks. These large breeds are genetically engineered to grow fast and they not only need mom's milk so they have great bone growth, they also need the socialization they get from each other and mom teaching them what is rude and acceptable behavior. Always tempting to wean when the pups eat good but in the wild they'd stay on mom at least 12 weeks. The longer you are able to go to keeping the litter together, towards 12 weeks old, even if weaned by then, the better the pups will do socially and psychologically through out their lives. I never sold puppies before 12 weeks. And I only sold to people who could give me references and would sign a contract to give me back (no refund) the dog if it didn't work out for them. I only ever had two come back but I took those dogs back without delay or question (both times were health issues for the owners). It kept those dogs out of the rescue system. That's what responsible breeders do. When they go to the vets for vaccines, keep litter and mom together in the vehicle and the vet's office. Dogs really don't step on their pups much. They are really quite careful. Get the parvo shots done as soon as vet says they are old enough. That is the most important one to do because puppies have no internal fat to draw on if they get parvo so they die. Adult dogs can survive parvo because they have internal fat around their organs to help them survive the starvation phase of the disease. Most of all, have fun watching them grow and change as they do.

Congrats! I use to give my shepherd eggs, goat milk, vanilla ice cream (not too much), raw chicken legs, liver, sweet potatoes, and a couple other things I can't remember at the moment. But they help with milk production. My girl had 6 puppies but unfortunately only 3 survived (1 was still born, 1 was born with a burst hernia so the vets had to put her down, and the runt passed away in my arms 5 days after birth. I was in the ER Vet literally 5 times the 1st week trying to keep that lil baby alive.) I kept one of the puppies and momma got fixed right after she had this 1 litter. I let her have 1 litter so I could keep her bloodline with me, hopefully for generations to come!
