Just had to retire an HK AVR-7200 beast after many happy years. Went for a modest Yamaha RX-V6A which is fine for the small and neighbor conscious space I have. This would have been a much more similar replacement in terms of performance and I totally agree I can see this filling a need for people who want great power in a compact form. The price is a steal. Good luck with the product.

Nice post, so as a successor to my Harman Kardon AVR 8500 5.1 THX receiver that needs a follow up after 21 years (still in great shape but out dated 26 kg great HiFi) I just bought the BasX MR1 11.2 Channel Dolby Atmos® & DTS:X™ Cinema Receiver at a sharp price thks to your discount. Like my AVR 8500 it has a massive torroidal transformer for juicy power so I expect it to act like my old school Harman, warm sound, easy delivering 15% more power then expected at any time. Can't wait to have it delivered ! It will drive 4 floostanding Infinity Kappa 8.2 i 4 way loudspeakers with the Kappa 4 way 250 W rms center and the Kappa 300 W RMS downfiring sub. So continuing the American HiFi tradition as set by Arnold Nudell (1937-2017) from Infinity in the day.

If it had HDMI 2.1 from the factory, I would be ordering instead of commenting. What are the chances for a revision to include HDMI 2.1? Need that 4K120 option (8K) built-in, fellas. Not enough details on this 8K upgrade mentioned at 7:48 to encourage me to buy with confidence. The ACTIVE HDMI OUTPUT SWITCHING is a fantastic feature.

I'm in the market to update my AVR - I'm scrutinizing this AVR and the MR 1 - I have a 8k TV and I'm looking to have Auro 3D in the receiver with a 2.1 HDMI and maybe Direct Live for calibration - i understand that right now you don't have the 2.1 HDMI but what about the Auro 3d and Direct Live, is this something that you may/will have a future software update ?

It’s nice to have the 13 vs 11 channels of processing here, but I think the x3800h wins with audyssey and Dirac live option. Plus it has auro 3D.

My system is a 5.2.4 with a Denon AVR-4300H with two emotiva amps which are a basx3 for my L/R and center channel and a basx7 for my 4 in ceiling speakers and my surround speakers. I’m planning to upgrade my system and buy this receiver and my question is that if I buy the basx MR1L receiver do I still need the amps to get a better sound or a more detailed sound?

Hello, I have the MR1 L in my cart for few days. Question: How many presets can I have after calibration ? Because I watch movies at MLP for serious movies…But sometimes I seat in my massage chair who’s farther left for casual shows watching. Also, can I EQ the subs ? Thanks 🙏🏾 Thank you

I chose to purchase this receiver last night. I’m excited to receive it to hear and see how it performs. It’ll be replacing my old Harman Kardon AVR 335 from 2004 😮 So this unit will have more than enough features from what I’m coming from. I did desire DIRAC but the extra price for that with other manufacturers just isn’t worth it for me at this time. Maybe in the future. And the hdmi 2.0 is enough for me.. I’m not a gamer and my tv isn’t an 8k haha I’ve extended the life of that a Harman Kardon by driving my front NHT Classic three’s with an Adcom GFA 555II which sounds amazing and using an external Pro-Ject DAC Box for music playback. I can wait to hear how the power from the more modern Emotiva will sound compared to the more powerful Adcom… which is supposed to be old enough to need recapping but I can’t hear any issues. If this unit can retire my Adcom for 2 channel listening then, I can sell it and get a power amp for 2 channel listening in the future… if I feel it’s worth it with new bigger speakers.

The rest of my 7.1 system is composed of the NHT Classic Three speaker line and the old HK didn’t pack enough wattage to get the most out of them for movies but the MR1L will give them all the power they’ll need. I’m excited to hear the difference

I gotta have it now well next paycheck I was going to get the nad receiver which has similar power and features minus a couple on the emotiva the only option the nad receive has over this is dirac but who cares when you can custom calibrate the emotiva using emoq like I said this is better than the nad receiver that cost $3,500

Anthem and Arcam have loudness control in form of Dolby Volume and Dolby Leveler. It's fantastic technology enabling reference quality sound at low (ANY!) volume! Can Emotiva implement Dolby Volume/Leveler as well? Doing that Emotiva would have the best receiver on the market period. 🙂👍

@@Music.Movies.67 It depends. With movies, Dolby Atmos/DTS X (TrueHD/HD Master) and in conjunction with Dolby Surround upmixer for DD/5.1/7.1/DTS it does wonders. For streaming as well. However with my Metallica Black Album DVD-audio (96 khz) there is a compression and noticeable lesser quality sound. But for everything else out there (99%) Dolby Volume and Dolby Leveler all the way! 🙂👍

Looks good, love the attention to quality in the amp stage (es[pecially since every home theater speaker is wired to like 4 ohms... and damn near every AVR can only accept 6-ohm minimum, wtf??). One HUGE red flag for me is not having WIFI, streaming services are everywhere, and I would really love to connect the receiver to my home network and stream audio from my studio computer. Or the luxury to game and at the same time stream music, which if I use my TV as my streaming hub, that's not possible. That's a ridiculous oversight, I complained about it with the flagship MR1, as damn near every other major AV receiver has that feature built on. Not to mention, seriously, u guys want us to move the receiver from its position and unhook cables *just* to update it by USB?? Is this 2005? Serious flub there. This would be a cash-in-hand buy RIGHTNOW with that simple feature. EDIT: And no HDMI 2.1? The fuck??

You can set it to automatically pick the proper sound mode or you can pick it manually if you desire. You can also setup each input to default with its own specific mode if you want as well.

The only missing piece that would give visual perfection to this Receiver is 1 illuminated volume knob like the UMC1 but in black! It's a pity that Emotiva didn't think of that!

@@Ghostrecon12 What Dan recommends in the the MR1 video is to connect your series X straight to the TV, so it can have a direct connection and no repeaters in the way of the video feed, and use Earc to run the audio back.

The HDMIs are only 4k not 8k. The microphone input jack to run the calibration is on the back panel. Why would anyone put it there?! 🤨🤔🤦‍♂️

No thanks doesnt have all the features Iam looking for eg 2.1 HDMI support,up mixing for Auro 3D,, phono input, 4 sub out puts, FM tuner, analog multi channel for 7.1 other than that It looks like a nice unit. But come on guys this is a little out dated receiver for todays users, eg just about any Denon or Marantz has all the features I mentioned except analog multi channel inputs for 7.1 a little disappointed here with Emotiva I just think they dropped the ball with this one.Maybe the next models will be caught up with the competition .

You have to remember how long it takes to develop their components. They don't necessarily follow what everyone else does. Higher End companies take longer than the ones most know. 8K is not anyone's reality as there still is not content or devices you can enjoy right now anyway.

We are currently developing our HDMI 2.1 system architecture. Remember we are a small independent company developing these things ourselves not like the AV giants out there like Denon/Marantz/Sony/etc. with endless resources. Even with HDMI 2.0, we have sold out our first few shipments of our MR1 receiver because there is still a massive amount of people streaming from their TV or using their 4K discs and not using any of the 2.1 features. We will have a full 2.1 version of these down the road but there is still a huge market for those still just using 2.0.

We aren't hiding away from these being HDMI 2.0. We have sold out many times of our MR1 because most people we have talked to are still just streaming from their TV or using physical 4K and standard BluRay discs. There is a market for both still in the industry which helps while we continue to develop our own 2.1 system. We are a small independent family run company taking on the big guys :)

HDMI 2.1 is coming in 2024 for these units. We have a large amount of customers who do not have needs for 2.1 so these are perfect for their systems.
