Jumpin Jesus, man. Lol. Every time I watch your videos it makes me realize how much I don't know about audio equipment! I used to be into "budget" home theater many years ago and it seemed incredibly simple compared to what you play with. I would absolutely love to hear some of your favorite sound setups and headphones. Looks like the new house is a great fit for you. Congrats. Peace.

Are there any decent preamps with a remote control? So I can use the rca highpass method and still be able to use a remote for volume?
@ZReviews

Pure preamps with remote are rare. Mostly I recommend separate DAC's with remotes like the SU8 or Topping E30.
@keithjohnson2863

If I had to assemble a budget system I would consider an Emotiva stack: PT-100 preamp (it does have a remote), B1+ speakers, SE8 sub and A100 amp. If the DAC in the PT-100 is the same as the one in the TA-100 integrated amp then it is barely passable. I would add a Topping E30 as a DAC only. You could the use the E30 as a preamp in a pinch but using a dedicated preamp will result in a more dynamic sound. I'm using an E30 in a desktop system and the sound really popped when I added.a Topping L30 as a preamp to the system.

2:20 Sub craw: You play a song that has 2 frequencies in it. You move the sub to the best location for those 2 frequencies and you lose the other ones. Human years are good for "yes I hear something" instead of "yep i hear exactly 32hz". So you might have a gigantic peak and you hear that peak and you tell yourself "THIS IS THE PLACE", but you have nulls everywhere. Sadly if you don't have equipment this is the only option. A calibrated mic and REW is kind of a must to find the best location for a sub and to align it to other subs if you have more than 1. Even if you have an SPL meter, those are no good under 32hz, so you can't find if lower HZs are good. With and SPL meter, you could play HZs like 30-35-40-45-50-55-60 ect ect. Write down each with it's corresponding DB and make a graph on paper. Repeat till you find the best location.

@@61percentodicarica Sorry mate. One day you will hear flat bass from 15-120hz and you will see what I'm talking about. You can't just place the sub anywhere. Would you place your TV at the ceiling or on the floor ? Doesn't work right ? Bass is the same.

@@61percentodicarica That's the beauty of this hobby! It's all about how it makes you FEEL. So for those of us who find great satisfaction knowing that their setup is configured in the exact way that will make the most of our hardware and the acoustics of the room, no effort is too great. Some of us will go about that process with precise measuring devices and others do so entirely by ear (I prefer a middle ground personally). At the end of the day it doesn't matter the method, as long as it sounds good and you're satisfied. May I also add that if you wish to avoid science and math, then you might just be in the wrong hobby ;)

Yes I had sub woofer years ago and ran amp to sub then used high level pass to tower speakers sounded excellent. They were Klipsh Epic CF -1 with 2 6.5 inch woofers and horn tweeter in between. Even though towers easily handled sub bass just cleaned up and made mid-base even tighter and better. Sub had 80 Hz crossover . I'd like to see Klipsh revisit the Epic series again especially with newer horn damping like on newer lines . I'm not familiar with how newer lines of speakers sound but would love to hear them
@vannk73
@vannk73 4 жыл бұрын
If you want to take advantage of the subwoofer's built-in high pass filter, then you should never use the speaker level inputs. For passive speakers: the signal goes via RCA from PC to Sub, RCA Out of Sub to Power Amp, and finally Power Amp to Speakers via speaker cable. Set your levels on each device and leave them. Control the overall level from your PC or DAC.

It's easier to blend the sub when you run the speakers full range and just crossover the sub where they roll-off naturally. That's pretty much how it's always been done for an "audiophile" setup. But for movies I can see the appeal.

It depends on your speakers, sub and individual taste. I was not able to pair my Emotiva SE8 sub with my Emotiva B1+ speakers without using the high pass filter for the following reasons: (1) The crossover on the SE8 only goes down to 60Hz, the bass extension on B1+'s was low enough that it still overlapped with the sub even with the crossover at 60Hz, this caused vocals on some tracks to be pushed from the front of the soundstage to the middle depth wise; (2) The B1+'s are very good in the mids and the highs, above what their price point would suggest, however there is cabinet resonance in the bass extension frequencies, once it is noticed it can't be unheard. A high pass filter resolves these issues and the dynamics are improved because the speakers are relieved of expending the energy required for producing the lower frequencies, that energy can be devoted to the frequencies that are passed to it.

Where did you get the tray for your keyboard/trackpad? (Also, which keyboard & trackpad?)
3 жыл бұрын
Hmm ok here is the thing, hope someone could help me with that; I'm planning to buy a pair of Edifier R1280DBs with a sub-out, and the reason for the sub-out is maybe I will need a dedicated sub-woofer later because 4 inch drivers obviously can't reproduce bass tones very well. The frequency response for those speakers goes like 51Hz-20KHz so a sub-woofer will be good at some point. But here is the real problem, I live in an apartment and have some neighbors obviously :D I was thinking to buy an SE8 to add my setup, with that HPF it should be great but as far as I understand there is no need to a sub-out for this sub-woofer, that's how the HPF works, RCA from the source which is my PC in this case, to the sub-woofer in and another rca to rca cable to the speaker from the output section with the HPF right? So I'm not gonna use the sub-out if I'm not wrong. But this way if I turn the sub-woofer off at nights (because apartment) there will be no signal to the speakers so...Any help?

I just bought this sub, the SE12 for $269 direct from Emotiva, along with the SVS SB1000 non pro version from SVS. The SVS is going back, as it was simply dead in my room, it was either in your face ugly or it was not there. There was a huge hole or null in the output, very disappointed, as this was the sub I wanted to keep, as I already own two of the SB3000 units. Yes, SVS fanboy here... Back to the Emotiva SE12, which was incredibly easy to set up. It was very easy to make dissapear in the room, and the sound is incredibly enveloping with my Zu Dirty Weekend speakers. You cannot hear either the sub or the speakers in regards to, "there is the sub" or "there is the left speaker", none of that in this room. Just one enveloping room of sound, which is very very cool. The sub is well built for what it is, and I experienced no resonance from the cabinet, and it does pressurize the room. I am using a vintage Sansui 2000 receiver in a 12 x 12 room. The Sansui has speaker A and B and Speaker A+B, so it was easy to wire the SE12 up. I listen to mainly Jazz, Blues and Classic Rock. I would imagine this will work good with movies too. I do not have a TV in the room to try any movies. The setup was incredibly easy, I have never experienced this with a sub. Set the low pass to 60 and adjust the volume, that was it. The speed is good, no boominess, and reasonably tight. I could see issues with it getting a bit muddy with say Techno or Rap, where the sound gets complicated and very deep, no clue if there is a limiter on her to prevent bottoming out. With the music I listen to, I have no concerns. For $269 and free shipping? C'mon man!

It might have sounded louder to him from the closet, but not defined. He had no idea that closing one or both of the two door might significantly improve the bass over stuffing it in the closet with associated rattles. I almost got dizzy watching his "fire hose" video panning. He could have used a tripod for large parts of his review. A video primer might educate him. A confusing mess of how to hook up the speakers and sub. The sub should have been in the main room. Very nice main speakers.
