Excellent review, bud. VERY few KZbinrs these days are able to do a video that gets through the info, detailed but still concise and not laden with 1000 cuts. Great job. I'm 99% convinced already to get these as I literally have yet to read a negative review of them.

Good testimonial... I still have the old school BP10s( x 6), a CLR2002 AND a SuperCube IIs from BayBoorRadio, so I appreciate your caveats coming from a DEF TECH background. I just LOVE the identical room-wide timbre. I LOVE my BP10s. I'm however VERY keen on the numerous owner reviews for this speaker, and its adjacent lines. It sounds like my Yammy A2080 amps won't cut it though, I would likely have to obtain new separates beforehand, especially if these are 4ohm nominal. I am quite happy for the result you spoke of, congrats. THX for the review and the testimonial, I am encouraged.

Wow you are the reviewer that I'm looking for! Most of them don't include center channels, it's been months that im looking for a review like this. You just helped me to decide on what to buy! @GedSmyth
@GedSmyth 3 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the kind words. The big thing that sticks out is that if you’re running this off a receiver then I would go Wharfedale. If you have a separate amplifier then go Emotiva. The Emotiva is a 4ohm speaker so it really does need an amp. The Wharfedale is an 8ohm so it will suit an AVR better (with no separate amp). Hope this helps and thanks again for watching snd liking. 👍

I replaced my Definitives with the Airmotiv T1+ and just love the open airyness of the ribbon, mids and upper bass range of these. I use a Denon 4400 with a 3 channel Anthem for the front stage and the Denon runs the back and atmos. However as with most towers, if you want that 20 to 35hz range a good subwoofer or two are needed.

Incompletely agree. I have a Denon 4300 so our setup is somewhat similar. I moved the crossover to 40hz on the towers with the having 2 subs out front and found it helped. With the sub cross at 80 there is a great blend in the way up. Thanks for watching! I appreciate it.

Nice Review. I own a pair of T2+ that I purchased about 2 weeks ago. You can certainly run these with a powerful receiver. I run mine with an Outlaw RR2160 MkII . 160 watts per channel in 4 ohms, no issue at all. It just has to be a good receiver that can handle 4 ohm loads. I use them for music only. They are in my man cave so I don't mind the black finish. But I think a logo of some kind, maybe a horizontal nickel colored strip with a logo just below the speaker grill would go a long way with aesthetics. Thanks again for the review.

This is too funny. I have the Outlaw RR2160 MkII running Elac B6's and I just placed the order for the T2+'s this morning. And now I run across this reply. I figured it would be a great combo but it's good to hear feedback from someone who is actually doing it. Have you noticed that both the 2160 and the T2+ are on Stereophile's list of recommended equipment? If you scour that list looking for affordable gear, this is a combo you end up with which is partially why I'm doing it.

Thanks for the review! I’m using a Denon X3300W and I just ordered the T2+, C2+, and BasX A3 to drive them. I’ll be very interested to see how they compare to existing my SVS Prime center + towers. I’m a bit nervous about how the ribbon tweeter will sound, but here’s to hoping I’ll like them! And I have to figure out how I’m going to fit that C2+ into my setup….it’s massive compared to the SVS prime center!

I actually looked at the SVS system you’re talking about as well. As much as the towers really peaked my interest, I didn’t feel the centre would do what I needed. That C2+ is AMAZING! I assume your low frequency response from the SVS may be tough to beat however that’s not a concern if you have a sub or 2. Let me know how you like them. I’m super curious to hear your thoughts. The ribbon tweeters surpassed all my expectations!!! I find them super lively without being too dynamic. Keep me posted.

@@GedSmyth well, my shipment came in and I got to listening to both sets of speakers powered by the BasX A3 and processing done on a Denon X3300W. Music was lossless through the Apple TV with Apple Music. I used a couple 4K Blu-rays as well. We kept switching out speakers for repeated listening tests to get a good idea of the differences. Both my wife agreed that the SVS center was noticeably better in tone for vocals. “Smooth” is the thing that kept coming to mind for SVS. The towers were equally matched in sound quality for me. I love the look of the Emotiva but they did not play nice in my room when it came down to measurements! 8-12dB swings under 300Hz after room correction…I tried all sorts of positions in my limited space and nothing worked. In the end, since we both strongly preferred the SVS center, I’m keeping the LCR timber matched so the Emotivas are likely headed back. Its a bit sad because loved the size and presence of the T2+ towers! I’m definitely keeping the BasX A3 to power my planned 7.2.4 surround upgrade later though.

I really appreciate the kind words pal. The first question I would ask is are you running an external amp or from your AVR? If AVR then I would say Polk (great pick by the way). @GedSmyth
@GedSmyth 2 жыл бұрын
It’s true. Emotiva speakers do prefer a 4 ohm load (especially for the front). The B1+ I believe is rated at 8 (I just got them but haven’t set them up yet). Speakers need power to move over that many channels. Even one of the smaller BassX would do the trick so you don’t need to put out huge money. Just a thought.

Based on the size and it being a 4ohm speaker, I would not run without one. Having said that, it will run and still sound good. You will get the benefits of it’s size, the amazing low crossover point, and the crazy dispersion for off axis listening. It just won’t fully open up and be as airy as you may want it to be. I hope my answer helps. Regardless you won’t be disappointed with the purchase. And if you add an amp one day then even better. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. I have a denon x3600h. will that be ok to drive this setup or do i need a 4ohm amp?
@GedSmyth
@GedSmyth 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. Personally I wouldn’t run them off just a receiver unless it was for stereo. AVR power stats are based on 2 channels driven. If you have a 7.1 (for example) there is way less power going to each. At that point I don’t think there wound be nearly enough for these to breathe and give the head room you would want. Just my 2 cents as I know we all want the most out of our setup. Having said that, if I planned on adding an amp later I would get them and just know they won’t be amazing until the amp arrives. If you’re going to run off an AVR then I would suggest a more efficient 8ohm speaker like a Polk or klipsh or something if that nature. There are some great videos on u see standing how to find how efficient a speaker is. One of my favourite guys ‘Youthman’ does a great job at this.

Although I did use a sub during setup I also ran them at full bandwidth and turned off the subs to hear them. They were clean and full. Sub is always ideal and when I added it I turned the crossover to 40hz. Musically they were beautiful. Movies were great but sub is always better if you have more room to fill. @GedSmyth
@GedSmyth 3 жыл бұрын
The SVS stuff is incredible. I love their towers. The reason I went Emotiva was because SVS doesn’t offer a large centre speaker. In my room there is a good amount of people that are ‘off axis’. I didn’t feel the SVS centre would cover the required space (it’s 21” or so wide). The Emotiva is 34” or so with 60 degrees of dispersion. If I was in a room where the only positions were directly in front of the centre then it would be tough to argue with what SVS product. Plus if you’re running the speakers off an AVR receiver (and not getting separate amps) then Emotiva is not your best option. SVS are 8ohm speakers and will do better off an AVR. I hope this helped and I appreciate you watching the video! Please like and subscribe.

Great review dude! But I got a question. I'm more of a 2-channel stereo guy. Do you think these T2+'s can be run without a subwoofer? Will they produce a full range sound? Or are they really lacking down there and gotta add a sub or 2? I mean they are kinda short, so plopping them on top of a 12 or 15 inch subwoofer might elevate them a bit. But it would be awesome if they don't even need a sub. Specs say they go down to 35hz. But I wanna hear what you think. Subs mandatory or not really? Thanks!
@GedSmyth
@GedSmyth 3 жыл бұрын
I love this question ! When I first ran them I had them set at full range. As long as you add an acoustic pad under the towers (like pyle audio 15”x 15”) and they are being powered by a good 2 channel separate amp like an XPA2 or even the new A2. No sub means juice is needed to move those cones. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you end up running them as I would love to hear your feedback. Thank you for watching and I hope you subscribe.

@@GedSmyth Thanks for replying but my question was more about "Can I get away with not having subs or will I be missing out?" I know I can just not buy a sub, but if I will be missing a significant portion of the good stuff, then I wouldn't want to make that compromise. But if on the other hand, if you say "no music goes below 40hz" and since these can produce down to 35, these alone should be able to reproduce all music. Do you know what percentage of music is in the sub 40hz region? Is there a lot in the 20hz to 35hz region? I don't know, that's why I'm asking. And I know some people might say "it depends on what you listen to." Well I don't plan on limiting myself so I kinda want a speaker that can handle everything regardless of what I actually like listening to. So what do you think? Is there a lot of information in the sub 40hz region in music? Or are you more of a home theater guy and HiFi is not your thing but rather LFE. Thanks!
@GedSmyth
@GedSmyth 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure if we got our wires crossed here. My answer was you can totally get away with not running a sub for 2 channel music as long as you have a good 2 channel amp to move the cones in the towers. It won’t ‘boom’ like the addition of the sub however with proper powered amplifier it will create full range really well especially in mid and low bass frequencies. I hope that helped.
@cowboyflipflopped
@cowboyflipflopped 2 жыл бұрын
@@springsprouts1673 For films, you'd need a good sub. For music, if you only listen to acoustic jazz and orchestral music, you're fine without a sub. The lowest note on an acoustic bass (without drop D tuning or a C extender) is E1 at 41.2Hz. Most kick and bass drums hit above that. On the other hand, if you listen to music where low bass is a feature of the music, you'll want a good sub.

Good morning. With the 3080 being able to run 4ohm then you could for sure run it off the AVR. Please keep in mind that power ratings for AVR are normally printed based on 2 channels driven and not 9 (3080 is a 9.2 powered). I appreciate the message and I hope you enjoyed the video. This is an interesting debate as there are so many variables. I looked at the Klipsch a lot when I was doing my change over. The difference to my ears was how accurate the T2+ and C2+ were. As much as I love Klipsch I don’t love the sound of their ‘horn’ tweeter. This is something that is a personal opinion as people like to hear things differently. Both speakers have great dispersion. The Emotiva will be able to accurately play quite loud as they a 4ohm speaker and you’re running the correct amp to power them. It will sound different then what you have now. Will it be an upgrade? That depends on how your ears like the change. I hope this helps and thanks again for the support. Let me know what you end up doing 👍

Would you still need an separate amp if I am using only the t2+ pair? Also please advise about the svs towers and any budgeted but decent and adequate av receiver. Thanks. How do you think svs stand against klipsch, Wharfedale, monolith and kef. Please advise thanks.

I think first things first you need to narrow it down to 2. Klipsch are a unique sounding speaker so I would try and audition them. If you love them then that’s your speaker. If you are running off a receiver then I would steer you away from the T2+ as they are 4ohm. Monothith are THX certified which to me means they will be crazy dynamic. All of these are gorgeous it just depends on what your ear likes to hear snd your room setup is like. I’m intrigued by Monolith. I love what I know of SVS and this amazing super towers. Kef and Warfedale I haven’t had a chance to play with yet.

Hey there Leo. They are rated for 100-500W per channel (amplifier power) so you should have no issue at all. They are rated to top out at 200 (in the speaker). Good morning. That’s a good question. I think when you look at amps around the same price point it all comes down to preference and what you have a had a good experience with. Both have XLR and RCA as well as similar power ratings. The one major difference is weight. 58lbs for an XPA-7 and 93lbs for the 7 channel Monolith. Either way you’re getting in to a beautiful monster of an amp and I’m sure you will be blown away by it. I enjoy the Emotiva story and their ideas behind audio. But Monolith is a great piece. I know that wasn’t a direct answer however both are awesome. I hope this helps your audio journey. Thanks for watching and I hope you will hit subscribe.

@GedSmyth 3 жыл бұрын
Ahhhhh well that helps. I was just looking at the tower specs and they look fantastic!!! They will sound very different than your Klipsch especially in the tweeter. Different isn’t bad. For me it came down a lot to the centre. The Monolith is about 21” wide. Vs the Emotiva at 34”. The Emotiva also has a lower crossover point for depth in voice. The larger footprint will help with covering dialogue and off axis dispersion. If you don’t have to worry about off axis viewing in your room then the monolith look tough to beat. I’m in an open room and the larger centre was a big priority. That’s probably more what you were looking for. Hope that helps.
@drumrboy80
@drumrboy80 3 жыл бұрын
The downside is, to get full potential, you do need to run them through an amp and not just through a receiver. It’s not for everyone, if getting a quality amp is out of your price range.
@GedSmyth
@GedSmyth 3 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Any 4ohm speaker you would ideally want to run off an amp. There is the odd AVR that can run 4ohm but they are few and far between. If I was running off AVR I would take a look at SVS or Monolith (cause Klipsch is too easy of an answer lol). However if a. If centre was a priority then Klipsch is tough to beat as the other two only have a 20” ish wide centre option.

Happy to take you through my thought process. I love Klipsch but I don’t love the feel of their horn tweeter (not that it’s bad... just not what my ear loves). Also these (Emotiva) being a 4ohm speaker and running amps made it a slam dunk. I also looked at SVS and I am a huge fan of the super tower. Why I didn’t go that route is, as I explained in the video I have off axis listening with guests and wanted a massive centre with huge dispersion. The size of the SVS was the same as what I had. If SVS made a big 34-36” long monster centre then it wound have been real close. Do you run off an AVR or are you powering through separate amps?

@@GedSmyth What had gotten you to pay so much more for separates in the first place instead of receiver, when there are very efficient and 8ohm sensitive speakers? Yes, your video is good stuff.
@GedSmyth
@GedSmyth 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. As efficient as 8ohm speakers can get and as good as receivers are, they will never be able to touch the consistent power of a separate amp. By the time you split 9-11 channels over an amp rated at 100 watts per channel (2 channels driven stated in small print) there just isn’t the juice left for good detail in the audio track. To me it’s like thinking about a highway, and cars are audio information. The more cars the merrier regardless of the speed (volume) they travel. Separates guarantee ample juice flowing regardless of the volume. The experience is indeed in another level. When efficiency is traded for proper power, then everyone wins.
