This is a very easy riddle. XLR are for long runs mostly used in Recording studios and maybe a theatre room where you might have the Processor/AVR in a more accessible place and the amp further apart. For short runs RCA is perfectly fine and in some cases better than XLR for short distance. Nevertheless the difference wont be noticeable to the ear.

Thank you .. all these “audiophiles” crack me up man . Like they want to ego stroke “mines got xlr” they don’t even realize it’s not audible. In their 4 feet cable runs at best 😆
@TB-wc5bm4 жыл бұрын
Anything beyond 10ft XLR has a better signal. RCA cables signal tends to become weaker . The only time XLR is better than RCA on short runs, is if the pre-pro and amp are fully differential that’s because XLR cables are fully grounded. Look at Emotiva Pre Pro RMC-1 & XMC-2 there fully differential and on the back of the processors there’s only XLRs .
@philmaness59833 жыл бұрын
A big difference between balanced and unbalanced is the potential for ground hum. Studios use XLRs because ground levels are all over the place with multiple circuits and the ways different pieces of kit are wired. If your source and your amp are on the same circuit, you're probably OK, no hum. If you have a separate circuit for your amp, maybe not. Using XLRs with balanced differential signals, you will never have hum (at least not due to ground). The other difference is signal level. The analog signal level of balanced inputs is twice that of unbalanced. Additionally, any noise being introduced in the environment is suppressed by the differential immunity of balanced signalling, not so with the single ended RCAs. This is where the length of the run is a factor. A 3 meter run of RCA cables is a giant antenna to add noise to your system. No so with balanced XLRs.

This is why I stopped buying Monster brand wiring... car audio I would still buy because they have the corrosion resistance warranty but home audio I won't.
@joetanner74796 жыл бұрын
. FYI . . . The XLR's on amplifiers are INPUTS. They carry signals into the amplifier, they do not output power. XLR's on pre-amps are for signal OUTPUT (but sometimes do have inputs, as well). If your speakers have XLR's, then they are internally powered speakers. Again, the XLR's would be used to carry the signal (or link speakers). .

Quality ? Monolith is build by ATI , you know owned and operated and designed by the guy that did SAE back in the day. They have been building amps for over half a century Emotiva can go take a hike anyday of the week I would choose ATI hands down . They build way better amps than emotiva does . They also build for lexicon (5000usd same amp), outlaw, crestron, cinepro (8000usd costing amps) Each channel have their own power supply and caps. Just look at a gut shot of these amps, it’s sick how they build these They build everything in house including their transformers That monolith weights 97 pounds and that’s all power supply 😆 don’t get me wrong emooooootiiiivaaaa is good, but doesn’t has the name ATI has in the audiophile community guarantee you that
@od40k774 жыл бұрын
@@MichelLinschoten You are correct about how good ATI is, and that ATI builds quality amps for lots of other well known brands. I believe however that Monoprice supplies ATI with the torroidal transformers, power rectifiers, and other components that are made in China but given to ATI to assemble per ATI's way of assemblying and building complete amplifiers. The monolith amplifiers are built in California by ATI, I just believe they do not contain some of the very high quality power components that ATI puts into their own signature line of amps, hence the massive cost difference between ATI's very own products and the Monolith products.

Your reasoning going with the Emotiva is weak as you cant describe to your audience the differences in the amps except for binding posts. Build quality is excellent on the Monolith, and now the XLR inputs are built into the Monolith. Also had the Emotiva been tried and true tested, the amp topology in the Monoilith while not new is quite reliable and manufactured by ATI , well known and respected in the industry . Hello just finished noshed watching your video & I watched because of the title because that’s where I’m at right now. I’m deciding between the Emotiva xpa 3 for my front 3. I was hoping that you had listened to them both to make the recommendation. Just about every point that was made was in reference to build or missing xlr plugs. I’m sure that’s important to a lot of people but it just didn’t apply to me. I have an anthem receiver so I have no need for xlr outs a least not at this time. The binding post may have been better but as long as they don’t break... sorry for the length but the main thing I was hoping from your video was to compare sound quality between the two. That to me is the most important but I’m not discounting the other points that you favor the Emotiva. Once again I’m on the fence about both but hoping you can shed some light on the sound of the two. Thanks appreciate any any info you may have.

Lester D hi, one good thing about the xpa3 Emotiva, is you can buy the three channel version for I think 1199.00 or less, and customize it later if you feel that you need to add more channels of amplification. I don't think anyone else is doing this, and it's like 200.00 for a two channel block of 300 watts I believe. This is just from memory. I purchased the XPA gen 3 and I love it, I have found that all I really needed in my large living room was this three channel Emotiva amp. With my X6300h Denon, I have plenty of power for my surround, atmos, and rears, which are not constantly using power at all times. So think carefully about your needs. You may not need 200 , or 300 watts rms for you back channels, or atmos speakers, in fact you will never use that amount of power. Only your main speakers are important, and maybe your center. If you find you need the power for your surrounds, which I doubt, you can later send your Emotiva Amp in and have it customized for a small fee. What a deal

lu sly thanks I appreciate the info.. I don’t think I’ll go wrong with either amp.. I heard good reviews on both & I like the way each one looks. "the Emotiva is more efficient" - care to cite a source for this, other than the Emotiva marketing brochure? From the looks of it, AB/H receiver's are more efficient in the "cost" department for Emotiva, but I haven't found anything to say that they're more efficient in watts used, or anything like that. And as I've said elsewhere, the THX measurements prove that the Emotiva amp has more crosstalk, more noise, and more distortion at higher power levels and frequency.

The monolith is made by ati, that is a top notch company.I like that the monolith has a toroidal transformer, i see that the emotiva has a switching circuit like a class d design. i dont know how reliable that it is compared to a amp with a toroidal transformer, plus the monolith is more heavy duty based on the specs.
