Eidolon is a character that really confuses me. He fucks up, his tactical mindset is clouded by entitlement, yet he is still assigned as the highest Lord Commander of the third legion. It fits, until the Paletine Phoenix released and we saw how Fulgrim was before corruption. It's a character created in a time when arrogant perverts was all the legion were, and they had to include him even as they write the pre heresy stories.

Mine as well, especially since it's surprisingly done with a lot of emotional intelligence. Eidolon is a character that would never back down to any other astartes of another legion, no matter the rank. But even he isn't delussional enough (at least at this point in the timeline) to question the warmasters authority. And more importantly, Torgaddon leverages something very crucial. He questions Eidolons pride in the one way that gets through to him: The Imperiums Warmaster thinks he is incompetent. Torgaddon plays off of Eidolons inherent biases and insecurities.
