Empire State Building unveils new 102nd-floor observatory

About four million people flock to this world-famous viewing platform each year, and now they can go even higher.
The Empire State Building in New York City has just unveiled its new observatory, 16 levels above the original.

@@TheHesK9 Agreed. It is gorgeous. Sadly, it is getting overwhelmed by the new giants that are sprouting up all over that area of Manhattan. Even the Empire State looks like a grandfather surrounded by a gaggle of towering teenagers.

I visited the Empire State Building in 2006. It was $40 or $50 to go all the way to the top 102nd. That was pre renovation. It's probably closer to $80 in 2023 but I'd pay that to experience it again.

I went up to the very top when I was 12. Back then the “dome” had portholes for windows and motion lights around the room. Every time it would sway the lights would move. It was a thrill that I still think about whenever I see it on tv or a movie.

It doesn't matter what city or what country you're from. I do not care, as a Chicagoan, the Empire State Building is the best skyscraper. Its iconicity is just insurmountable. That's all there is to it.

@@californiamade5608 I had to cut my trip short by 3 days as by March 18, NYC was already in a partial lockdown. I was able to see Time Square, the 9/11 memorial reflecting pool, visit the Oculus and walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, but all the museums, the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center observatory were closed. Many restaurants were also closed, and whilst some were open, they were only allowing customers to order food but not dine-in. Overall, the trip was pretty good but I may try to go to back New York (as well as Los Angeles) in 2 year for a proper visit, assuming there's not another pandemic.

Went to New York in march 2023. Empire State Building is still on the top 3 things to see in New York and always will be for me. What an experience. Never went all the way up to 102 unfortunately hr still had great videos from the roof acssess
