Thank Heaven for a true review where the notes are played like most of us play rather than a festival of Spanish guitar-style noodling above the 7th fret forever like so many lesser reviews on other channels.

Seth Lover who designed the Gibson humbuckers, was poached by Fender to design these pickups in the 70s.

Mine arrived today. FAT sounding even with the rounds. Nice chunky neck. Excellent fit and finish. I HATE string thru body but an American Standard 3 screw bridge should be a drop in replacement. Add TI flats and it will be a keeper.

12:44 I had the exact same reaction as Anthony when those first two overdriven notes thundered out of my speakers! For some reason when you dug in a bit I thought it sounded a bit like a Musicman Stingray!

My Telecaster bass sounds amazing with the mud bucker and the low and high mids pushed up and played with a pick. The sound is so full and even but still cuts through the mix of two really loud guitars.

Awesome looking bass. I’ve a Fender P and a 90s Washburn Mercury which has a superb neck and fingerboard. I love the Fender basses. This new V2 is a stunner.

Thank U Anthony! My first Fender bass was a blonde 1972 Fender Telecaster Bass. Like everyone else, I wish I still had her. Great presentation on how to bring out the most of this often overlooked and underrated instrument.

I had an original Fender Telecaster II bass from the mid 1970s--looked just like this one except in a different color. Bought it used in New Mexico for $450. It was crazy heavy and I used it for awhile while playing club circuits in the western US (mid 1980s). Should have kept it. But hey, now there is this bass for me to spend some more money on! Love the surf green.

Stoked on this! I’d love to get one and add an early 50’s style single coil P pickup in the center position with a vol/vol/tone knob setup and some fat flats (ok sorry about that geekery 🤣)
@skyviewdesign
@skyviewdesign 8 ай бұрын
One way to tame the over-compression that occurs when digging in with that pickup is to modify the humbucker to be wired in parallel instead of series. Brings out a LOT more brightness, even in that neck position.
@stephenfoley1261
@stephenfoley1261 8 ай бұрын
I thought of splitting mine for series/parallel/single coil but when I removed the pickguard I saw that the pickup is only 2 wire. As a bonus though, mine has CTS pots as standard which isn't mentioned in the Fender specs.
@skyviewdesign
@skyviewdesign 8 ай бұрын
@@stephenfoley1261 it terminates to two conductor, yes. It requires some careful deconstruction of the pickup to get to the wires inside of the pickup. 10/10 don’t recommend doing it yourself unless you’re familiar with pickup construction.
@A.A1995
@A.A1995 Ай бұрын
Almost the opposite of the purpose of this bass; seeing this kind of pickup so close to the neck... but I think this will sound interesting with a pick and rounds on full tone, and then compensate at the amp by turning down the bass and upping the lower mids. I am pretty sure it will not muddy anymore but very articulate. It will not be a P-bass sound but more towards a Gibson G3, very unique sounding pickup. I think the D and G string will have a massive amount of lower mid so the bass is allowed to be played very close to the headstock and still have the thick tone.

It is great that the 70s telecaster bass reappears. I have a 1968 tele bass and a 1973 tele bass. So handsome and simple. If this pickup is the four-wire model as in the pawnshop basses, you can wire it in series or parallel. I have mine in parallel, and it now has a good amount of mids and a bit of top end.
@stephenfoley1261
@stephenfoley1261 10 ай бұрын
If you have a 4 wire humbucker you can use a DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw) (On/On/On) switch and wire it as Series/Parallel/Single Coil. I did that with a Squier Vintage Modified Tele bass and it worked a treat.

The Telecaster is always a fascinating bass but to buy only if you really need THAT sound, (similar to the Gibson EB-0) otherwise you will get very little out of it; much better a much more rational and incisive P-51/54.

It is for Fender with the humbucker version (since the original back in the 1970s), but Squier had one a few years back. I think it was called the vintage modified precision TB bass.
